Avatar f tn Determining a dosage of tramadol for dogs is an exercise in futility. As with people, if the dog has a history of seizures it is important to let your vet know this, and they will likely tell you about alternatives. While the dosage amounts vary from dog to dog, the tramadol dosage for dogs can be put into effect by using the dog’s weight as the determinant. The usual range is .5 - 1.8mg per pound.
Avatar m tn The plasma half-life of tramadol following a single and multiple dosing was 6 and 7 hours, respectively. This increase in half-life upon multiple dosing is not considered to be clinically significant or to warrant dosage adjustment for chronic use." I've also read that 5x the half life takes you to a level that's deemed insignificant.
Avatar f tn Sorry to be so abrupt but ibuprofen, the active ingredient in motrin, is EXTREMELY toxic to dogs! Even a small dose can lead to events that will kill him. It's best to check with your vet first on dosing, but he CAN have human aspirin as long as it's either buffered or enteric coated, like Ascriptin. But don't give him any other type of human OTC pain reliever because they are just not formulated for dogs.
Avatar f tn http://www.1800petmeds.com/Tramadol-prod11064.html I personally don't think it worth taking so it probably would be more desired by a pet. No really it is a pain reliever for temporary relief of back pain sprains bruises etc.. The best advise I can give is take OC (over the counter) pain relievers, they have a better chance of getting rid of your temporary pain, and no addiction. Go for the fastest, safest pain relief.
Avatar f tn Said ligament degeneration is part of the process of arthritis in dogs. So, we have some NSAIDs and painkillers (Rimadyl and Tramadol, specifically) and he's being encouraged to be lazy (as if he needs encouraged! lol) for the next couple months... didn't want to do surgery, as he might with a younger dog, because it would be so rough on an old dog. May or may not need long term management once it heals - we'll see in 2 months.
Avatar f tn I have a severe stomach problem and for the past six months have been in and out of the hospital taking drugs in there. i am currently taking tramadol and it does not work for me therefore ihave been taking more than i should, my doctor prescribed me stadol nose spray but i heard it would put me in withdrawals if i had recently taken other opiates/ does anyone know how long they last or if it is that bad because i need real pain relief and i am afraid to use it.
Avatar m tn Are there painkillers for dogs that are safe? Tramadol caused my 11 year old chow chow Emily to have seizures after two days 4 pills and the Rimadyl side effects I just read here are equally as bad. Both were give to her by her vet of six years. If anyone has any ideas please contact me at ***@****. Thank you.
442658 tn?1563386491 That's funny you say that because I was walking my two dogs the other day and ran into my neighbor who said her rotty was on tramadol. I didn't know they put dogs on tramadol either and I thought it was strange as well!
535089 tn?1400673519 I am really puzzled. Our Dog (Casper) has Arthritis in his front legs and has been in pain for a while now. Last month I took him to the vet for his Senior Blood Panel work-up and found out that he has Arhtritis and Hypothyroid Disease. Since his visit, he has been medicated with the Thyroid meds and Rimadyl (anti-iflammatory).
Avatar n tn My GP started me on 50 mcg of levothyroxine. I also take tramadol and fentanyl patch for chronic pain, and oramorph occasionally for breakthrough pain. Since I started levothyroxine, I went immediately from being cold all the time, to perspiring profusely. My blood pressure has shot up, and is around the 190/100 mark or thereabouts. I have horrible;le tinnitus, and my chest aches, and generally I feel weird. Is it possible my dose is too high for starters.
Avatar f tn Tramadol is a nightmare that you should avoid at all costs! It's a drug that is commonly prescribed to old dogs and I witnessed a neighbor get hooked on his dogs medication. His dog died in excruciating pain while he was high on the dogs Tramadols. It's a horribly addictive drug and getting off of it is worse than Vicodin or Oxys. Please, leave it alone.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever heard that gabupentin helps with withdrawals from tramadol? A friend of mine was on tram for 5 years and withdrew using gabupentin and she said she felt little to mo withdrawal symptoms! Anyone know or have experience with this??
Avatar n tn During the winter time he seems to be in more pain than usual. Should I also be giving him tramadol? What exactly is the difference between the two medications?
544292 tn?1268882668 Hi Tramadol Warriors, Many people have come here for many years, giving support and getting support. Because I still believe that Tramadol is unique in it's ... terror and torture of humans, this thread continues. The people who can understand what you are going thru are the people who have kicked it and there's people here who come back to lend a hand. You also will never need an understanding ear as much. You can do it. You can quit. You do not need to be a slave to Tramadol.
Avatar f tn I hope you mentioned to your PM that you were taking the Tramadol that your PCP prescribed. Hopefully that should avoid any problems if it is detected in your bloodwork. If you didn't mention it before the testing, you could possibly have your PCP send a letter to your PM doc stating that they had given you the tramadol, when it was prescribed and what the dosing instructions were.
Avatar m tn Also, it is not the usual treatment for pediatric cough of any origin as situation needing these drugs is rare in pediatric population. Also, chronic cough in a child may not have a neurological component. It may be due to low vitamin B 12, reflux or due to allergy. If it is diagnosed to be a neurological cough then please consult a neurologist regarding the dosing as a close monitoring of drug is required in pediatric population. Please do not self medicate. Take care!
Avatar m tn Thank you for your response. I started taking Tramadol in 2008 when my Rheumatologist suggested it, because I told him that I took Excedrin almost every day. At first I thought nothing of it and I would feel fine taking just one pill a day. I suffer from Ankylosing Spondylitis which is arthritis of the spine and there is no cure for this so this is a lifelong disease. When I was not on Tramadol Excedrin would help me at times but I still would many times feel a bit of pain.
Avatar n tn Metabolism of tramadol and M1 is reduced in patients with advanced cirrhosis of the liver resulting in a larger area under the serum-concentration-versus-time to curve tramadol and longer tramadol and M1 elimination half-lives (13 hrs. for tramadol and 19 hrs. for M1). In cirrhotic patients adjustment of the dosing regimen is recommended (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION).
1512059 tn?1298296573 I was thankful to read that things are going well with the tramadol taper. Sorry about the pinkeye though. I hope that besides that, you had a noce Thanksgiving.
Avatar n tn I can only imagine the frustration of dealing with a diurectic in a pet, but your veterinarian obviously thought the medication was needed at that dosing level. You can, though, post this question in the Ask A Vet Expert forum and get some opinions from veterinarians across the country. They would be able to help guide you with information you can share with your veterinarian at home and questions that you might ask your veterinarian. Good luck with your sick little one!
3010990 tn?1340511756 Can some1 pls advise im on 17 ml meths and switching to subutex in 3 weeks as it has blocker in it now a friend has given me some tramadol to help with the withdrawals will these help me at all coz not too sure any advise on these medications will be greatly appreciated thanks
Avatar f tn Ask your physician if he/she thinks your anti-depressant dosing level is too high for combined use with Tramadol. And, most importantly read the prescription leaflet instructions that lists the symptoms of serotonin syndrome. Get immediate medical attention if you are exhibiting any signs of serotonin syndrome as not doing so can be fatal as prolonged symptoms of serotonin syndrome can put you into a comatose like state that you may not come out of.
Avatar n tn Human grade fish oil supplements are made from exactly the same ingredients (usually!) as the ones for dogs. But check ingredients to make sure there is nothing in there that shouldn't be, and can harm dogs....such as xylitol etc. Pure fish oil is okay. But keep the capsules or bottle of oil out of the light, preferably in the refrigerator to prevent rancidity/free radicals, etc. There is some information, and information about dosages here: http://csu-cvmbs.colostate.
Avatar f tn For sure. Cats are at least 10 times smaller than a SMALL adult human female. What is given to us is too much for such a small animal. For example: The amount of Zyrtec I was told to give to Akira is only 1/4 of the adult human dosage. This is much smaller than the children's dosage, which is 1/2 of the adult human dosage. I would never ever give medications to Akira without her first seeing her doctor. I do know that no one should ever give Tylenol to their pets.
