My father was recently told that there is damage to his liver and was taking terbinafine. Will it heal itself now that he quit?

However I have also suffered from bad muscle spasms in my legs in the evening and at night. I decided to stop the statins and the spasms have gone immediately thank goodness ! I will never take this statin again but I know I have to still control my cholesterol. Does anyone know of a statin that will not give me leg spasms ?
My uncle refuses to take statins claiming that they could hurt his liver. Is there some way to lower cholesterol and triglycerides and clear clogged arteries naturally without statins? Is my uncle at a high risk of developing a heart related condition? Can statins even help if the arteries are already clogged?

Long, long time ago, I was prescribed statins, and then I got RLS. I stopped the statins. But the RLS continued and does to this day. I have no idea what my cholesterol looks like now, haven't seen a doc in a while, I'm all docked out, but I reckon I'm about to die at this point! Smile.
But you make me think of when I was trying to figure out why I had RLS, since nobody knows what causes it. The thing about RLS is, once you have it, you ALWAYS have it.
There is no standardized test used to measure dementia secondary to use of Statins. Dementia may have many eitiologies. Statins dissolve cholesterol, and memories are stored in a similiar class of substances. In some patients Statins are absolutely necessary, but they are often overprescribed. There is sufficient literature on the internet that will enable you to make your own decision. As Red_Star stated, there are more than five good reasons not to worry about cholesterol.
Since I have familial high blood fats, my doctor has tried me on several different types and doses of statins, and I always get fairly severe muscle pain in the shoulders and arms. This is a symptom that may occur in approximately 30% of patients on statins.
Apparently, though, there may not be any REAL damage to the muscles in most cases, in spite of the intensity of the pain. There are blood tests to determine if actual muscle damage is occurring.
My cardiologist at Mayo Clinic agreed with me that I was right in going off statins right away (I presented facts and figures and time lines) and suggested that I take plenty of fish oil, watch my diet, keep my weight down, and take niacin (he withdrew that suggestion when I told him a previous physician had suggested niacin as an alternative but what it did was cause serious diarrhea, which is a sign of niacin toxicity).
The last time I was tested by the pharmacy it was over 300. But my blood pressure is low and I exercise regularly so my risk was 3%. I stopped taking statins because I read an article that said that statins cause memory loss and do not really help to prevent heart disease. I also was feeling achy, like my muscles were getting weak, which is a side effect of lipitor and statins. But since my cholesterol is so high, I am wondering if I should go back on lipitor or prevestatin.
As gmachris said, neither clots or thickness of the blood are related to statins. Neither are they related with the weakness and tiredness that he might feel, those are normal symptoms of the HF and also side effects of the medication (in particular Beta-Blockers).
To really appreciate the risk of suffering a blockage and then another heart attack, you need to see his blood cholesterol level.
