Avatar m tn s an increased risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis, my doctor said that it was best to suspend statins while I take them as the overall effect on my heart health would be negligible over a short period. RE the washing, I am just worried about passing it to my wife so I have probably gone a bit far, just feel extremely unclean while I have this, never had it before. It's definitely jock itch, doc saw it, it's nothing to do with allergies.
Avatar n tn I have a closing carotid artery being treated by statins Crestor 10mg but I find the muscular pain associated with this and other statins unbearable. If I had the operation, which I will have to pay for, what am I buying? Time, a future without statins, or just more of the same¿?
Avatar m tn [12, 76, 78–84] Indeed, in both animal and human models, statins significantly lowered portal hypertension pressure and did not cause any untoward hemodynamic effects, thus improving hepatic perfusion. Moreover, when combined with nonselective beta blockers, the effects of statins were additive.[85, 86] The role of statins in preventing angiogenesis and inducing apoptosis has also been studied recently, perhaps presenting an opportunity for reducing the development of hepatocellular carcinoma.
1806721 tn?1554333407 It tries not to alarm anyone, puts a bizarre spin on the risks and benefits of statins, and suggests that you “be sure to talk to your doctor,” (the same person who has been poisoning you). The question is, how can the “benefit” of a drug that causes a disease known to drastically increase the risk of heart disease be good for long-term heart disease prevention?" Avatar m tn Hepatitis C patients with liver cirrhosis were significantly less likely to progress to decompensated disease and less likely to die if they used statins to control blood cholesterol, according to an analysis of U.S. veterans presented at the Digestive Disease Week meeting this week in Washington, DC, and at the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) 50th International Liver Congress last month in Vienna.
Avatar m tn However I have also suffered from bad muscle spasms in my legs in the evening and at night. I decided to stop the statins and the spasms have gone immediately thank goodness ! I will never take this statin again but I know I have to still control my cholesterol. Does anyone know of a statin that will not give me leg spasms ?
Avatar f tn My uncle refuses to take statins claiming that they could hurt his liver. Is there some way to lower cholesterol and triglycerides and clear clogged arteries naturally without statins? Is my uncle at a high risk of developing a heart related condition? Can statins even help if the arteries are already clogged? Thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn Long, long time ago, I was prescribed statins, and then I got RLS. I stopped the statins. But the RLS continued and does to this day. I have no idea what my cholesterol looks like now, haven't seen a doc in a while, I'm all docked out, but I reckon I'm about to die at this point! Smile. But you make me think of when I was trying to figure out why I had RLS, since nobody knows what causes it. The thing about RLS is, once you have it, you ALWAYS have it.
Avatar n tn No, but statins leach nutrients out of the system and make others less absorbed. It also affects cholesterol, which makes our hormones, which also regulate mood. So yes, statins affect a whole lot of things the doctor won't tell you about because he doesn't understand nutrition.
Avatar m tn There is no standardized test used to measure dementia secondary to use of Statins. Dementia may have many eitiologies. Statins dissolve cholesterol, and memories are stored in a similiar class of substances. In some patients Statins are absolutely necessary, but they are often overprescribed. There is sufficient literature on the internet that will enable you to make your own decision. As Red_Star stated, there are more than five good reasons not to worry about cholesterol.
Avatar f tn I don’t abuse alcohol like that. I’m a social and relax drinker. I have been taking statins for pre-diabetic and high blood pressure. I do take acetaminophen that day.

Avatar f tn Cholesterol is now 311 Triglycerides 69 and HDL Cholesterol 71 and LDL 226. My doctor wants to put me on statins, but I want to get my hormones correct first. What do you think? What kind of doctor should i follow up with?
1168718 tn?1464983535 Yes, cholesterol is essential to the production of myelin and the normal functioning of the brain/nervous system. I have always wondered why statins were ever considered or studied as a potential treatment for MS (outside their limited use as an anti-inflammatory). I can’t help wondering about the source of research dollars or the reliability of reports that mention even limited success.
Avatar m tn Since I have familial high blood fats, my doctor has tried me on several different types and doses of statins, and I always get fairly severe muscle pain in the shoulders and arms. This is a symptom that may occur in approximately 30% of patients on statins. Apparently, though, there may not be any REAL damage to the muscles in most cases, in spite of the intensity of the pain. There are blood tests to determine if actual muscle damage is occurring.
Avatar n tn My cardiologist at Mayo Clinic agreed with me that I was right in going off statins right away (I presented facts and figures and time lines) and suggested that I take plenty of fish oil, watch my diet, keep my weight down, and take niacin (he withdrew that suggestion when I told him a previous physician had suggested niacin as an alternative but what it did was cause serious diarrhea, which is a sign of niacin toxicity).
Avatar n tn The last time I was tested by the pharmacy it was over 300. But my blood pressure is low and I exercise regularly so my risk was 3%. I stopped taking statins because I read an article that said that statins cause memory loss and do not really help to prevent heart disease. I also was feeling achy, like my muscles were getting weak, which is a side effect of lipitor and statins. But since my cholesterol is so high, I am wondering if I should go back on lipitor or prevestatin.
Avatar m tn I have reached LOW triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels after 6 months of zero-bad-fat diet. I am now ready to ditched my prescribed statins. Is it safe to cold-turkey statins or do I need to ween off? Please advise.
3170462 tn?1344717552 In my case, I started turning bald about age 40, ten years before I started taking statins. I wear my bald pate proudly, and I must tell you, a low cholesterol level trumps a head of hair!
Avatar f tn As gmachris said, neither clots or thickness of the blood are related to statins. Neither are they related with the weakness and tiredness that he might feel, those are normal symptoms of the HF and also side effects of the medication (in particular Beta-Blockers). To really appreciate the risk of suffering a blockage and then another heart attack, you need to see his blood cholesterol level.
Avatar m tn The better studies do rule these out in their predictive models, so this one becomes all the more suspect for not having done so. (and remember drug companies pay for studies showing how statins could benefit us all, so just some points to ponder is all.
