Avatar m tn s risk of cancer is 6%, but among ARB patients, it is 7.5%. So balance the additional risk of cancer with the risk of aortic dissection or rupture and make the call. Most cardiologists will continue to prescribe beta blockers when ARBs appear to be the superior therapy, so finding a knowledgeable cardiologist is the toughest hurdle.

Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Your blood pressure, urea and creatinine levels are within the normal range. Also, you are on telmisartan, belongs to the class of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors which may decrease the rate of decline in kidney function. However, levels of microalbuminuria above 30 are indicative of early kidney disease. Am not clear about the normal ranges specified by your lab. So, please discuss the possibilities with your doctor.
Avatar m tn You should be aware that although millions of people use ARBs, some of these drugs have been linked to a slight increase in the risk of cancer, according to one study. The risk in the non-ARB-using population is 6.0%, while the risk in the ARB-using population is 7.5%.

Avatar f tn Bp was still not getting controlled and i was started on telmisartan and also amlodepin along with the metoprolol. The bp was then controlled well for about 3 months, however the anxiety continued. Since the last week my bp is also increasing to 140/90 along with the anxiety and also i am experiencing what i think is hot flashes. Avatar n tn I don't know anything about Atenolol and I haven't looked it up, but if possible side-effects listed include weight gain, I think it worth your time to see what you doctor can recommend as a good change (lower dose, or alternative medication). At 6' I think you should target getting more than 20 pounds off, I'd think you'll feel better and have less diabetes risk if you get down to about 200.
Avatar f tn You take metoprolol, diltiazem, enalapril and telmisartan. The first two agents address primarily heart rate (HR) but are not great blood pressure (BP) drugs. Speaking of HR, what is the reason that you see an electrophysiologist? Atrial fibrillation? and are you feeling poorly when your heart rate is 40s?
Avatar n tn Why spend $100k+ and risk open-heart surgery and all the attendant risks when you can just drive to Walgreens or CVS and pop a pill everyday that will keep you off the operating table? That is why I stress that you need to educate yourself on this topic and find a cardiologist who knows about these studies and, if appropriate, is willing to prescribe these medications for you.
Avatar f tn Unless you have extensive family history of breast, colon, or ovarian cancer your risk for cancer is low. 95% of cysts are benign.
681148 tn?1437661591 My cousins are related through both sets of parents, so my risk is the same as theirs is of developing this rare form of breast cancer. They are more closely related than ordinary first cousins, since they are double first cousins. The symptoms I've had myself recently had me frightened. I'm glad I had the mammogram, so my anxiety level is greatly reduced now that I know nothing abnormal showed up in the test.
Avatar m tn She was tested 3 times and and all of the pap smears came back as low grade and tested negative for any high risk HPV strains. We had been married for a long time and the HPV must have come from a previous relationship, well over a decade ago. Unfortunately a subsequent/precautionary LEEP revealed Stage 1b1 cervical cancer and after a successful hysterectomy and radiation, my wife had a recurrence & metastasis and has since passed away.
Avatar m tn herpes is never linked to cervical cancer. Only HPV increases your wife risk of this cancer.
Avatar n tn Just as an FYI, there is an MD who is very very good at explanations on chemotherapy and answers quickly. He is located on the Expert Forum, under Ovarian Cancer and a subtitle of chemotherapy. His name is Kamal Saini, MD and at this moment, he is pictured to the right of this message under "Expert Activity. He would be one very good source of information from the chemotherapy standpoint. Avatar f tn When present, this gene variant increases the risk of lung cancer, especially the risk for small cell lung cancer. Your mother may or may not have this gene variant but that doesn’t mean that you have it. And, if you do have it, the increased risk, in no way, means that you will get lung cancer, small cell or other, especially now that you have quit smoking. The role of lung cancer screening tests is still not clear.
Avatar m tn my wife and I had genital herpes for years, now I read that people with genital herpes are at a higher risk of having cervical cancer, is it true and is there anything we can do to lessen the risk. I really appreciate your answer, thank you!
Avatar f tn In other words, for any one person the risk of radiation-induced cancer is much smaller than the natural risk of cancer. If you combine the natural risk of a fatal cancer and the estimated risk from the 3mSv, the total risk may increase from 1000 chances in 5000 to 1001 chances in 5000. So, yes there is an increase risk, but the increase is very small. Hope this answer clears things up for you.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm the mom who has a son that was diagnosed by chance with a bicuspid aortic valve and dilated aortic root at the age of 13 years old. He was diagnosed in May 2008. Initially the ascending part of the aorta was 2.6 and has progressed steadily with his six month checkups to 4.0 as of Feb 15, 2010. His root measured 3.8. He has had all genetic testing (Marfan's, Loeys-Dietz, Famial Thoraic) and they were all negative.
Avatar n tn Further, as far as the issue of cancer risk is concerned, please be aware that even those HPVs which are associated with increased risk for cancer rarely lead to cancer and that the vast majority resolve without any therapy at all. I would not worry about risk for oral cancer in relationship to your filiform wart. As for your specific questions, using the same order as used in your post: 1. See above.
