Tarceva gemcitabine pancreatic cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Tarceva gemcitabine pancreatic cancer

tarceva

Avatar f tn Edema (fluid accumulation in any body part, resulting in swelling) has been reported as an adverse event in 37% of pancreatic cancer patients taking Tarceva, although this side effect has not been reported in lung cancer cases. However, the type of edema associated with Tarceva use is either generalized or involves a swelling of both legs. Swelling in only one leg may not be due to this drug. Unilateral leg swelling may be due to a local infection (cellulitis) in that area.
Avatar n tn Hi. I'm assuming you're referring to Gemzar (generic name: gemcitabine), which is a chemotherapy drug commonly used for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. I'm not sure what particular side effect of gemcitabine you're thinking of which could be counteracted by taking Lugol's solution. I have used this drug on a lot of my patients and have never used Lugol's to counteract any of Gemzar's adverse effects.
Avatar f tn or clinical trial BTOG2 currently in phase III in the UK of Gemcitabine plus Cisplatin 80mg versus Gemcitabine plus Cisplatin at 50mg versus Gemcitabine plus Carboplatin AUC 6. Am in total confusion as to what to choose. Have done some internet research on these drugs but still non the wiser. Avatar n tn how can i get doctor to prescribe tarceva for inoperable lung cancer with secondary brain cancer has recieved one chemo session for lung then 5 radiotherapy for brain...help??????
Avatar m tn Hi. The progressively increasing levels of CA 19-9 are highly suggestive of pancreatic cancer recurrence, but this test alone does not conclusively prove cancer recurrence. That was why the PET scan was done to visualize where the recurrence is located. The problem with Ms. Pai's case is that the left supraclavicular node pinpointed by PET as the possible location of recurrent cancer, did not yield any malignant cells on fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC).
Avatar f tn My Grandmother (age 64) has stage 5 pancreatic cancer that has spread to her liver. Her oncologist told us last week (Friday) that he does not want to continue on her Chemo (gemcitabine). He told us that there was nothing else that he could do to prolong her life. At this point I am not sure what to do. I am her Medical POA and her Durable Power of Attorney. Should I start planing her funeral?
Avatar n tn Asians, women, non-smokers, and those with adenocarcinoma histology. This drug still has been found to benefit males, smokers, and those with squamous cell histology, but to a lesser extent.
365470 tn?1232747095 Hi all just want to keep you posted , my husband started on the drug Tarceva since his lung cancer is in operable this is supposed to dry up the blood flow to the tumor so it will shrink, so just praying that it does and all goes well, then he will have chemo, the oncologist said no to radiation.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your response. To clarify: his treatment was adjunctive. At the time they saw no sign of cancer outside the lung. Now, however, after 4 rounds of chemotherapy the disease seems to have spread during treatment with taxotere and cisplatin: it's now in the liver, bones and adrenal glands. His original tumor was EGFR positive that is why Tarceva came up as a viable second step.
Avatar m tn Yes, it means that the cancer has developed resistance to tarceva. The best choice of treatment is the one established by your oncologist.
Avatar n tn Am I too young to have pancreatic cancer? Is there anything else aside from the work-up already done on me that can give a false high? Why wasn't my pancreas checked? Is pancreatic cancer a possiblitiy?
Avatar n tn He had more chemo for precaution. After one year, the cancer came back into his Adrenal Gland. It is also in his Lymph Nodes. They put him on Tarceva( a pill he took everyday) And after 6-7 weeks, he had tests done which showed it didn't do anything.. the tumor has grown. They said there is no other options.. no surgery/ no chemo/ no radiation. Has anyone out there had a similar diagnosis and is there any hope for him. I want a second opinion but do not know even where we could go.?
Avatar n tn m doing research as quickly as I can to help she and her husband make an informed decision about what to do...if anything. The local drs are recommending 4 weeks of full brain radiation followed by tarceva. Prior to the finding the mets, they were planning 6 weeks of radiation to the right lung in combination with etoposide and cisplatin. I'd appreciate any feedback. My thanks in advance to all responses....
Avatar n tn My father who is now 83 yres old is diagnosed with non small cell cancer with a large 3 inch mass in his upper right side. They state it is somewhere between a stage 2 and 3 due to the size. He is schedules to start radiation treatment in a week. However, they did state he is fit enough to have sugery but there is not guarantee he would not have complications from this. We are struggling to determine what is the better path to take. Will the surgery give him a better chance vs the radiation.
Avatar f tn Hello I am a caretaker. My client was diagnose with lung cancer stage IV. It has already spread to the spine, both lungs and the lymph system. Avatar n tn I am having a PET scan tomorrow to see if any cancer is visable. Do you feel I am doing the right thing to begin the Gemcitabine? Are there alternate treatments I should be considering. What are my survival chances with this cancer? Thank you for any help you can give me.
Avatar m tn Hi there, my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the head of the pancreas in June 2016. He passed away with pancreatic cancer in March 2017. At the time of diagnosis he had jaundice and bile duct obstruction. The bile duct had to be removed through surgery and that was the time when the pancreatic tumour was discovered. By January 2017, there was metastasis of the pancreatic cancer which had spread to the liver and lungs as nodules could be seen in the liver and lungs.

287578 tn?1198549844 I am a breast cancer survivor and a long time poster from the breast cancer forum. My brother was diagnosed with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma last week. He also has cirosissis and Hep C. Is there any hope for treatment? I know it can't be cured. How long does he have to live (approximately)? Any facilities that specialize in this type of cancer? Thank you all in advance.

Avatar f tn //www.webmd.com/cancer/pancreatic-cancer/causes-pancreatic-cancer Symptoms of pancreatic cancer are found at this link. https://www.webmd.com/cancer/pancreatic-cancer/pancreatic-cancer-symptoms#1 When they speak of light stools they are speaking in terms of jaundice which usually has other symptoms such as yellow skin or eyes. Do you have that as well? If not, I'd not necessarily associate light stools with pancreatic cancer. GERD is likely to cause yellow stools.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Stage 3c ovarian cancer in Sept 2003, treated with 8 rounds of carbo, taxol and gemcitabine. The cancer recurred jan 2008, with the finding of a para-aortic lymph node. This was successfully resected 2/08. On a post-surgical, pre-treatment CT scan, liver mets were seen (2, <1cm). I have now completed 6 cycles of carbo and gemcitabine. One of the liver mets is gone, the other stable since a CT scan 3 months ago (6-9mm).
Avatar m tn What is the best exam to rule out Pancreatic Cancer? I´ve been expericieng some problems in the last month: my stools are different, vague low abdominal pain and vague back pains. I am very anxious. After read about Cancer Pancreatic I can´t put my mind at rest and started feeling minor itches. My doctor asked a ultrasound and some blood tests. After the results he said it is fine for Pancreas. But I have other problems: 2 stones in my gallblader and minor hepatic steatosis.

Avatar f tn I have a friend that is sick with pancreatic cancer I don't know what kind he has. I don't know if it's exocrine or endocrine but what I would like to know is what is the survival rate for individuals with this type of cancer. However age, race, gender all of that play a part.
Avatar f tn After removal of the bladder - and the cancer has metastisized (sp?) to the lung and bones - is it always fatal?
