Common Questions and Answers about Tamsulosin for bph

Avatar m tn At 65 I was told I was "late" in getting BPH, but as anyone knows, better late but not better than never with this one. Anyway, I have tried Epsom Salt baths and UrinoZinc, as I did not like Tamsulosin at all. It made my breathing labored, and I don't like the idea of Retrograde Ejaculation. I have had painful external orgasms and urination, and although my enlargement is not that bad-the Urologist told me it was .5 and had others at 1 and 1.
Avatar f tn chlamydia was tested and negative...i don't believe bph or trichomoniasis were tested...the tamsulosin was to try and loosen bladder neck to try and alleviate symptoms...
Avatar n tn I've been taking tamsulosin for 3 or 4 years now after my urologist prescribed it for BPH. I've slowly started having leakage issues lately where I will have a strong sudden urge to urinate and have a difficult time holding it until I can get to a toilet. Sometimes some urine leaks out and other times the urge will pass and I can wait before racing to the toilet.
1831849 tn?1383228392 Both are designed to address benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). I know the primary audience is men, but there are women who take tamsulosin for urinary hesitancy. I was taking the max dose of tamsulosin, .8mg/day. I'm now taking 8mg Rapaflo/day. I'm told that it will take 4-5 days to see the full benefit if Rapaflo and I'm now on day 3. So far so good. I think it's allowing me to better empty my bladded.
Avatar m tn High PVR not likely related to prior kidney stone or high fluid intake over the years. A bladder stone would almost certainly have been seen by CT scan, so I doubt that is the cause of your voiding dysfunction. You are quite young for such severe symptoms. You might ask your urologist about cystoscopy to look for a urethral stricture and/or a urodynamic exam for "pressure-flow studies" before committing to a TURP to test your bladder function.
Avatar m tn Available drugs include doxazosin, terazosin, alfuzosin and tamsulosin. Older drugs, phenoxybenzamine and prazosin are not recommended for treatment of BPH.[5] Alpha-blockers relax smooth muscle in the prostate and the bladder neck, and decrease the degree of blockage of urine flow. Alpha-blockers may cause ejaculation back into the bladder (retrograde ejaculation). The 5α-reductase inhibitors (finasteride and dutasteride) are another treatment option.
Avatar n tn I have an enlarged prostate BPH. I had a problem a few months ago with inability to urinate (urinary retention). I had to go to the emergency room and they inserted a catheter to remove the urine in my bladder. I had the catheter in for a month. It has been removed and I am back to normal. The doctor put me on finasteride to reduce the prostate size and tamsulosin (Flowmax) which is working. I asked my doctor if I had to take these two medications for the rest of my life he said yes.
Avatar m tn Flomax (tamsulosin) is a selective alpha blocker used for treating BPH. One of the side effects of this drug is retrograde ejaculation. Normally, the sphincter of the bladder contracts and the ejaculate goes to the urethra. But in retrograde ejaculation the sphincter does not function properly. Once you stop using this drug it’s effect on the sphincter also fades off. I would suggest that you visit your urologist and discuss the above mentioned possibility and follow his advise. Best.
Avatar m tn I am scheduled for these two tests prior deciding for TURP (or TUIP or laser as KTP or HoLRP or??(*)). The rationale is that despite high doses (2x0.4 mg) of alpha blockers (tamsulosin) I still have a huge residual (~500-600 mL) and maybe a distended bladder. I might have developed a chronic retention and I am told TURP will help. But is it true? My symptoms are mild and beside the asymptomatic retention I do not feel anything particular.
Avatar m tn I have been suffering from bph for last 1 year. i had ultrasound of prostate done twice at 3 months interval, both time showed mildly enlarged prostate. I had frequent urination, every two to three hours at night, I was asked to take finasteride 5mg every day. which i did for about a month, however, this resulted in erectile dysfunction, so i stopped taking finasteride, after which the ED has gone. can u suggest other medication for mildly enlarged prostate.
Avatar f tn then press rather firmly (can be a little uncomfortable) to express a small amount of prostatic fluid onto a swab for analysis for possible bacterial infection. This might not be what’s happening in your case, just throwing it out there as another possibility. Keep seeing the Dr. until you’re completely comfortable that things have returned to normal. Tamsulosin usually works pretty well. If your reg Dr can’t help, see a Urologist...
Avatar f tn A doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 625mg + Tamsulosin medicine for 10 days to me. I have a side effect after taking Tamsulosin (Retrograde ejaculation) or any other ejaculation problem. Is this normal or should I stop using Tamsulosin? Or will it (Retrograde ejaculation ) recover after stop using ten days? Should I keep getting Tamsulosin for 10 days or stop?
Avatar m tn As far as which drugs you can take, that is something you and your doctor are going to have to figure out. Your doctor knows your medical problems. All drugs do not work on all people. Many people have good results from some drugs and yet have poor results from others. Your doctor should know any other medical problems that you have and which drugs may be the best possible drugs to take instead of the drugs you are now taking. One size does not fit all.
Avatar m tn I am using Flowmax (Tamsulosin) for about 3 months for enlarged prostate. I started noticing my Testicles hang lower now and not tight anymore since I have been using this medication.. Could this be from the use of Tamsulosin?
Avatar n tn My uro MD has suggested cryotherapy for My BPH. I have not read or heard much about it being used for this. Would love to know more opinions before going this route.
1580703 tn?1651904887 It's unusual that tamsulosin should relieve your chest pain. While tamsulosin is used primarily as a prostate medication, it can also lower blood pressure in some individuals. This may be a sign that your blood pressure is high (which may lead to chest pain in some), which is then being reduced by the tamsulosin. Enlargement can occur due to a number of reasons.
Avatar m tn I recently rang a number in an advertisement for BPH stating "WE provide a non-surgical non-invasive treatment programme for BPH which can relieve you of all these embarrassing and irritating symptoms"I was told it was a course of treatment of an oral medication made by natural means and would cost around $3000.00 per month and would remove all symptoms.
