Taking strattera for weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Taking strattera for weight loss

strattera

Avatar n tn This in itself is not always a problem. It becomes a problem if it leads to persistent weight loss. Strattera is a treatment for ADHD that is not in the psychostimulant family of medications. It does not suppress appetite and is quite an effective medication, particularly for those children who are inattentive but not hyperactive.
Avatar n tn For many people, however, unintended weight loss can be a problem. For example, weight loss can be a problem in growing children.
Avatar f tn A combined analysis of 12 studies of Strattera showed that in children and teens this risk was 0.4% for those taking Strattera compared to none for those taking a sugar pill. A similar analysis in adults treated with Strattera did not reveal an increased risk of suicidal thoughts. Call your doctor right away if your child has thoughts of suicide or sudden changes in mood or behavior, especially at the beginning of treatment or after a change in dose.
Avatar f tn my 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADD. doctor put her on 25mg. strattera for a month and then up to 40mg. In 4 months she has lost 28lbs. she is down to 90 lbs. and is 5'6". She has excelled at school but now we are scared about her weight. doctor dropped her back down to 25mg. She has trouble falling asleep and staying asleep and has alot of anxiety. Therapist just labeled her anorexic. Is there anyway to get her appetite back and still take meds?
Avatar n tn i am using strattera for the shool but i would like tu start using creatine to gain weight (muscles) at gym i am 17 year old some1 as an idea if it as any bad sides effects
Avatar m tn Yesterday, I noticed that you suggested Strattera to another mom for tics. Our doctor told us also to change to Strattera.
Avatar f tn Everyone is different. My son is 12 years old and has adhd odd and mood disorder. He has been on multiple meds. The stimulates seem to be the most recommended for the adhd problems but can sometimes cause weight loss and aggression. Zoloft is for depression. I don't believe any of these meds help with the odd part of it. Because the child has control over this they are choosing to act that way for a reason. Weather it be for attention or just to drive ya mad.
Avatar f tn She has been on risperidone for many years. Recently we have tried other drugs and her symptoms of aggression have increased. She is currently on Strattera, serequel, and hydroxizine (to help her sleep). She has only been on the serequel 2 days and it is not helping. The risperidone was stopped immediately because of weight gain. I need some suggestions on what we can do. HELP!
Avatar n tn 1st on adderall with explosive behavior - had to try before could take straterra, insurance. Strattera was fine for sev yrs - although only limited imp - just enough to tolerate her. Problems with social interaction and her mouth - she's constantly argumentative and I believe ODD. After menstruation began, strattera appeared worthless. She began nobody liked her, spells of crying uncontrollably, etc. I took her off Strattera and was on no meds temporarily...
Avatar m tn m maintaining on Lamictal and Celexa, with later additions of bupropion and most recently Strattera for symptoms of ADHD that persisted. RE: Strattera, it helped with concentration, not much with attention, but overall improved mood significantly to the point I feel well and stable more than I can remember in my life. My psychiatrist, however, is concerned that despite my current situation the number of different meds I now take worsens the odds of a good outcome longer term.
Avatar m tn If you have a doctors prescription for medication and you get fired for taking what your doctor recommends - I think you would have serious grounds for a lawsuit. There is a big difference between a speed addict and someone with ADHD. You really FIRST need to find out what your company policy really is about legally prescribed medication. Second, all docs start you off on a low dose and wait to see how you respond. Sounds like you body has adjusted and the dose needs to be upped.

979428 tn?1253399601 I have a wonderful friend who has a 7 year old son who is on ADHD medication. He is having a hard time getting his son to eat and/or gain weight. He sees a county doctor, so it is not much of a partnership as it is the doctor telling him what to do. The doctor's office has expressed a concern over his son's weight and my friend is at a loss about what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions? He thinks the medication is Strattera. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn ve worked for in that time. And be miserable without working out. Would taking a klonopin with the strattera in the am help eleviate those symptoms? My pharamist thinks my blood pressure is getting to high. Would a klonopin combat that so I can at least perform at 100%?
Avatar n tn t seem to work for me, they make me extremely irritable and give me chest pains. Tried strattera but it made me extremely emotional, to the point of sobbing for no reason. My doctor put me on Buspar, 5 mg 2x a day to help with my ADHD...but I have not read any solid literature on Buspar and its effects on ADHD symptoms. Is this a good drug to go on for ADHD? Has anyone else been on this drug for ADHD?
Avatar f tn Strattera is a non stimulant med used for ADHD. Whether or not it would be effective for you, I don't know. This site lists almost all possible treatment options. Although for some reason, I couldn't find Strattera listed, so you need to google that. The site is http://www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/medications.htm And the following site also lists (with info) non stimulant meds (they do mention strattera). http://www.baltimorepsych.com/NonStimulants.
Avatar f tn methylphenidate (focalin) is what my grandchild has taken for 3 years he was very small for his age and mentally delayed he now takes abilify and strattera....
1063332 tn?1254751034 Just wondering if anyone out there has had such a large cocktail to remain stable and if anyone knows if adding a lower dose of strattera and a small dose of cymbalta to the mix would cause trouble. I admit I have been taking the 40 mg of strattera every other day even though pdoc switched me to vyvanse. Am taking that as well but just makes me a little moody when it wears off. (as did adderall).
Avatar f tn My son developed Raynard's Phenomen after taking Strattera. Weaning him down on the dosage reduced the symptoms. His hands otherwise where blue, white, and cold through out the day. He had a reaction from the stimulants and can not take them. HAs anyone used accupuncture for controlling ADD symptoms?
Avatar n tn hey i've been taking strattrea 25mg for 1 week 40 for 1 week 60 for 2 weeks now my dosage has been increased to 80 i really want this to work...i feel tired all the time how much longer should it take for the effects to kick in?
Avatar m tn Your doctor is doing the correct thing by slowing increasing. Your daughter is in the 90 to 98% level for weight for her age. Weight is an important factor in dosage (besides severity of the AD/HD). So I would not be surprised to see the dose increased. It is interesting that there is not a great deal of information on the long term usage of these meds. Ritalin has been used since the 1960's.
Avatar n tn I am an over 35 Adult female with ADHD. I have been taking Strattera for several years. It wasn't until my aggressive behavior and anger was announced to me by my husband as being a problem that I sought help with counceling and with my primary care Doctor. The first thing my Doctor said to me was that Strattera was known to cause heightened aggression and mood swings. He also said that due to the fact that I am super-sensitive to any medication it could make it much worse. Is this possible?
Avatar m tn Take it before bed otherwise you feel strange and tired.Well that's what I do. I was going to stop taking it until I figured out it works for me as long as I can sleep off the effects.
Avatar f tn According to the web, Strattera carries with it a "black box warning" - the most serious warning a prescription med can carry and still be on the market - that strattera has been linked to suicidal thoughts in children. I agree with Margy - I would call that doing terribly on strattera. I'm not quite sure what behaviors strattera has helped with, but a child with new suicide thoughts are about the worst thing I can think of.
Avatar f tn t been on medicine for it since college. Starts out with my former medicine, strattera, but when I would take it I felt my heart was out of control and my blood pressure went up. Now on wellbutrin for about a week but I feel foggy and it is causing worse ibs. Not sure if that side effect will go away but giving it a try. My question is, if anyone can answer, why was I able to take strattera as a child with 0 side effects and then high heart rate etc now.
Avatar m tn Has anyone ever had chest pain from taking Strattera. I think my daughter is playing games with us and just does not want to take her medicine and I would love to find out if anyone has had this issue before so I know whether she is telling the truth or not.
Avatar m tn I can only answer about gingko. I took this for short-term memory loss as part of a study. I worked beautifully for me, but I did not have your specific problems. I was suffering from severe long-term insomnia.
Avatar n tn hey my diagnoses is bipolar depression i take 150 zoloft,50naltrexone,60mg inderol,trileptal 900,stelazine 6mg,cogentin 0.
