Avatar n tn I am a 35 year old female w/ mitral valve insufficiency. I also have what appears to be refractory hypertension. One year ago, when hypertension was dx, an echocardiogram indicated only mild regurgitation of the mitral, aortic, and tricuspid valves. My physician, at this time (EP for pacemaker), said this would go away once BP was controlled. Over a year later, despite seeing a hypertension specialist and trying many different drug regimines, BP still remains high.
Avatar n tn Kenkeith, thank you. I have a ? for you based on your response. The pulmonary artery pressure I am referring to is noted in my Echo at the Tricuspid Valve. It specifically says Ticuspid Vale then mentions the regurgitation. It then says Pulmonary artery pressure is estimated at 40 mm HG. Everything I have read that says this amt. of Pulmonary artery pressure indicates Pulmonary Hypertension.
Avatar n tn Is the pulmonary hypertension causing the right ventricle enlargement and the tricuspid regurgitation and would this then be primary pulmonary hypertension. Or, can you explain what is causing her pulmonary hypertension. I have been told my my mother's cardiologist that her tricuspid regurgitation is causing the pulmonary hypertension. But I have talked to other doctors that tell me that the pulmonary hypertension is causing the tricuspid regurgitation.
Avatar m tn These range from transient flu-like symptoms to serious effects such as cardiac arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, renal and liver failure, polyneuropathy, and myelosuppression. Pulmonary side effects including pneumonitis, pulmonary fibrosis, and reversible pulmonary hypertension have been reported. Herein, we present four cases in which irreversible pulmonary hypertension was diagnosed after prolonged treatment with interferon alpha.
Avatar f tn is it Primary Pulmonary Hypertension or is it so-called Secondary Pulmonary Hypertension, the most common causes of which include recurrent pulmonary emboli (clots to the lung), disease of a heart valve, or estrogen or appetite suppressant therapy. While pulmonary hypertension is a somewhat common disease, the cause may not immediately evident to one’s doctors.
1856046 tn?1330237245 Some diseases raise pulmonary pressures to cause pulmonary artery hypertension for unclear reasons. Perhaps an unknown toxin or chemical effects the blood vessels by causes constriction or inappropriate growth of the tissue within or around the vessel. For example, there is a condition known as portopulmonary hypertension that is result of liver failure.
Avatar f tn s_kwcid=TC|6584|pulmanary%20hypertension||S||4572043981 HERE IS A WEBSITE FOR YOU TO CHECK OUT What is pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)? High blood pressure in the blood vessels of the lung Pulmonary hypertension means high blood pressure in the blood vessels that carry blood from the heart to the lungs.
Avatar f tn Mean pulmonary artery pressure is ≥25 mmHg at rest Mean pulmonary capillary wedge pressure <15 mmHg This should not be affected by the size of the individual.
Avatar n tn What questions should I ask? Does it appear that I have pulmonary hypertension? I am getting very short of breath with a little exertion. It is becoming very difficult to breathe. Thanks.
Avatar n tn If HOCM has been treated the incidence of pulmonary hypertension is usually less. And pulmonary hypertension can be due to other causes also. It may indicate a poorer prognosis, but this depends on the clinical symptoms and others cardiac factors. Regards.
Avatar m tn Hey,I hope someone that reads this can help.I would go to the doctor but lack insurance so I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out. Here's my story: I was a healthy 20 y/o in 2006 and just woke up one morning unable to catch my breath. It progressively got worse over the course of 4 days so I went to the ER and was told that I either had asthma or anxiety and was given an inhaler.I noticed it wasn't working after trying for a week so I made an appointment with my doctor.
Avatar n tn My mom has had pulmonary hypertension for about a year now how long is life span with this disease? I was wondering why her doctor wouldn,t rec. a heart doctor ? Can you rec. a very good doctor in connecticut for her? I want to make sure she is getting the best care. This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/322405'>Borderline Pulmonary Hypertension</a>.
Avatar f tn I have moderate Pulmonary Hypertension secondary to an uncorrected ASD. Is it too late for a correction?
Avatar m tn If you truly have pulmonary hypertension you need a CT scan looking for pulmonary clots, a right heart catheterization to measure your pressures, and possibly a biopsy if something like sarcoidosis is suspected. Again lupus can explain most of your symptoms so look there first. Given your weight gain make sure your physician has tested you for things like Cushings disease and PCOS. Your situation sounds frustrating.
82818 tn?1206989814 and I wanted to add that the likelihood of being approved for a liver transplant will likely depend on the severity of your pulmonary hypertension. Severe pulmonary hypertension may be a contraindication for surgery as a healthy lung status is necessary to make a recovery from surgery. But judging from what you have written, the comforting thing appears to be that one of your doctors feels that you would be a candidate for surgery. I wish you the best. By the way, thank you KjFlicka...
Avatar f tn With out knowing which part the measurement came from it would be hard to tell. But it not a bad number for any of those diameters. As far as pulmonary hypertension goes it is also known in the medical world as PH and what it means is that the arteries inside of the chest wall basically are having high blood pressure and its easily treated by docs. I would say that your doc needs to sit you down and go over all of this with you so that you aren't in the dark here......
Avatar f tn The pulmonary tests can give great information on the condition of your lungs and also how effectively the heart is pumping blood to the lungs to be oxygenated. The physicians know what markers to look for for pulmonary hypertension. Commonly pulmonologists or cardiologists are the one's to determine this and treat accordingly. Without the full picture (exams) I cannot say what is causing you're shortness of breath.
Avatar m tn 5 phentermine pills to lost weight she gave it to her every 3months for a year with no break and 1year and a half later she was diagnose with pulmonary hypertension and she never had a history of problem before taking this pill she played basketball for her school and passed out playing one night so i stop her from playing basketball and that was the start of my nightmare with this disease i alway read u got to be 16 years old and u can only take it for 3 months out of the year and that's fo
Avatar m tn RVSP is the most relevant one and any value greater than 35 mmHg would be considered abnormal for mild pulmonary HTN, greater then 45 to 50 for moderate and greater than 60 to 70 for severe PHTN. The gold standard for diagnosing PTHN is a right heart catheterization.
Avatar f tn I am so sorry for your loss. Pulmonary hypertension can affect children too..
Avatar m tn Diagnosed yesterday with pulmonary hypertension. I had AFib corrected by ablation in 2018. They found ASD. Non sympathetic so nothing done. On eliquis. Annual echos. Last year 65 EF, mild RVSP 34, slightly dilated RV. Yesterday… 55-60 EF, high RVSP 63, enlarged RV. Appointment scheduled with cardiac surgeon concerning closure of asd. Worried about irreversible nature of PH. Is it true it cannot be reversed or healed?
Avatar m tn Anyway I read on the report that my RVSP was 43mmhg. I know that it should not be above 35, anything higher than that is pulmonary hypertension. Some sources even say it should exceed 25 at rest. The test also showed mild mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. My question is should I be worried about this? If the RVSP is 43 then it's clearly above normal, yet the doctor made no mention of it. Is it time to find another doctor or is it indeed normal?
