Avatar n tn If you don't have anemia, you don't have an iron problem. Vegetarians should have no problem getting sufficient iron, as it's present and best absorbed from a variety of plants. Examples are nettles, raw spinach, raw dandelion greens, beets, parsley, watercress -- you get the picture here, green leafy vegetables and others as well. Now, just being a vegetarian doesn't mean you're eating well.
Avatar n tn But know that not everyone is equipped to do well as a vegetarian -- most vegetarians do it for ideological reasons and it is harder to get all your nutrients as a vegetarian, particularly methionine and B12, so you do have to learn how to do it well. Food groups don't differ for vegetarians and meat eaters, just the source of protein does.

I have opted to skip a few days between the smoothies to see if there is a difference in my stool and yes, today, that are somewhat (minor) more consistent and compacted. HELP. Should I be worried?

Avatar m tn Most vegetarians rely on beans and nuts for their protein, as should you. The rice should be brown rice for maximum protein and nutrition; beans combined with any whole grain will give you a complete protein. Iron is not a problem for vegetarians -- there are many vegetable sources for it, including beets, parsley, dandelion greens, most green leafy veggies except lettuce, nettles, etc.

I dont agree with animals being killed for food. Unfortunatley i cant really chat about raising kids as vegetarian as i dont have any yet. I have been ttc for 6 years. I had a miscarriage (natural pregnancy) and I have had 2 failed FETs. I am trying to eat heathily, drink 2-3 litres of water a day and i am taking supplements to help us ttc.
Avatar f tn They chose vegetarianism, so i have cooked for them for 12 years, they are very healthy, never sick, beautiful skin etc, strong, i have done so much research, we eat indian style cooking. I am a bit of a health freak i suppose, but i am a Mom and i should be, I have 2 meat eaters, so cooking can be fun with 6 - 8 items on the menu. I am 46, I have gone off eating meat, from living with my girls + there awareness, PETA etc, animal loving household.

Many vegetarians around the world have a nice soft middle because they eat so much white flour and potatoes and the like. You need to make sure you get your protein. And then you need to exercise.

Her FT4 is only 9% of the range, so she's a long way from the recommended 50% (mid range) where most of us feel the best. Her symptoms are also consistent with hypothyroidism. Her TSH is also too high - in the U.S. the upper end of the range is recommended to be 3.0... not that most labs, actually, use that, but that's the recommendation.
