Common Questions and Answers about Superfoods for vegans

superfoods

Avatar n tn B12 deficiency is very common in vegans, one study showing that 92% of vegans are deficient in it. Animal protein contains all the essential amino acids. It is important for muscle mass and bone health. Studies show that vegetarians are deficient in creatine, which has harmful effects on muscle and brain function. Carnosine protects against various degenerative processes in the body. DHA is the most active form of Omega-3 in the body and primarily found in animal foods.
Avatar f tn I know some people have posted here on being vegan, but most people anywhere aren't vegan. Do you have a specific question? Even non-vegans eat non-animal food, so maybe use non-vegans can lend a hand.
Avatar f tn Not sure if the superfoods have causes this grainy stool, but I am concerned since it lasts for a couple of days. I have opted to skip a few days between the smoothies to see if there is a difference in my stool and yes, today, that are somewhat (minor) more consistent and compacted. HELP. Should I be worried?
2175366 tn?1337651654 Some people get good results with "superfoods" such as bee pollen, royal jelly, spirulina because they are so highly concentrated with nutrients. Adrenal aids such as eleuthero and rhodiola can be helpful as well.

Avatar n tn So make sure you still get ample protein and that you still eat your veggies and doing what is healthiest and best for your metabolism. Make sure you get tested for B12 and methionine, essential for health for you and your child but hard to get on vegetarian diets if you don't really know what you're doing.

Avatar n tn First, how do you know other vegans have had incredible results? The vegan diet is an ideological diet based on a belief system that one shouldn't use animals for anything. It isn't a health diet, though it's often billed as that to sell it. No natural people, meaning people not living in an artificial civilization, has ever been vegan that I know of. So what does this mean for you?
Avatar f tn I know there are some good vegan ones out there, but check with your doctor to make sure there isn't something in them you need to avoid. I'm guessing that you are looking to supplement your protein, to be sure you are getting enough for you and baby. I'm thinking there is a brand called something like vega (I can't remember the name-its on the tip of my tongue) Its good for vegans.
Avatar f tn You really need a new doctor!! First he's getting you all messed up, now he's the same with your daughter!!! Her FT4 is only 9% of the range, so she's a long way from the recommended 50% (mid range) where most of us feel the best. Her symptoms are also consistent with hypothyroidism. Her TSH is also too high - in the U.S. the upper end of the range is recommended to be 3.0... not that most labs, actually, use that, but that's the recommendation.
Avatar f tn You really need to do some level of exercise. I'm not saying you need to go out jogging, buy a treadmill, or join a gym to loose weight. But exercise stimulates your metabolism so you really need it. As far as amount of calories go, it really varies depending on your age, weight, and sex. I'm a 24 year old female and was told to eat about 1433 until I loose enough weight to switch to a 1300 cal diet.
Avatar m tn My mother is suffering from acute pain in her lower abdomen, for the past 1year. Especially at the end of her backbone. She has problem in getting up from the ground if she sits for more than 15 mins on the ground. Recently she got her medical check up done and there was Vitamin B12 deficiency(value came out around 100) and also her keratin count is 43. Her age is 45 yrs and she is a vegan. Please suggest some diet plan and what other precaution need to be taken by her.
Avatar n tn It made me throw up a lot so I'm not sure

Avatar m tn m not a doctor and you should consult your doctor prior taking any non-essential supplements since you are on medication. Vitamins and superfoods supplements are safe tho and they have no interactions.
Avatar f tn ve been a vegetarian for a number of years and have recently starting eating a vegan diet after struggling for years to get back to full health. I was prescribed these heavy duty medicines that had to be injected into me but I found that what has helped me the most is getting on a mostly vegan diet (I do eat eggs). If you're not having a flare up, fiber is very important. It's important you keep your body clean and bacteria free.
Avatar n tn has anyone ever considered that maybe some of the soaps shampoos we wash with might contain chemicals that are not met for people, (sodium lauryl sulfate) for example maybe they cause pvcs by slowly poisoning you in in the soaps shampoos who knows what else google sls and see what it says about it
Avatar f tn There are always vegans and soy supporters that doubt the above info, but I bet if they had thyroid disease their view points would open up. Soy in real Asian food is fermented, reacts different that the junk put in processed food.
15355684 tn?1440035790 Can anyone suggest some superfoods that help improve the brain performance? Recently I found a superfood called Bulletproof brain octane oil that helps improve brain performance at Giddy Yoyo, a certified organic food product seller in Canada. Does anyone here have tried this product? or if someone who knows better superfood then please share.
Avatar f tn Also I'm very sorry for ur loss. im grieving for my nephew and i can't even imagine if it'd been my lil girl. my prayers go out to u and ur wife. Best wishes to u both.
Avatar f tn You need some sort of meat products or a vitamin supplement because there are certain necessary amino acids that can only be found in animal products. (Vegans get around this by vitamins added into their foods.) What you really need to eat to loose weight is a balanced diet. You also need to make sure you get your proteins and fats (You need some sort of fat in your diet)- beans, nuts, cheeses, mushrooms, meats, avocado, etc.
Avatar f tn I am not much on people being lazy during pregnancy but i would def reccomend it for you. Dont lift anything heavy at all. Treat yourself like you would treat that baby. And i eould talk to the dr about having sex. Usually it is perfictly fine but may not be in your case. And dont worry about it either bc stress isnt good for either of you. But if it does happen, it is not your fault and nither were the other ones.
Avatar f tn Hey ladies I'm six weeks pregnant and been a vegan for the past five years...
Avatar f tn The more you stress the worse it is for your baby. Also try pregnant yoga its amazing what stretching can do for your mind. Eat some pregnancy superfoods like greek yogurt or beans or my favorite popcorn its a whole grain.. Its healthy for the both of you and gives your baby extra nutrion. Folic acid everyday prevents defects 600 mg. You can buy it at any walmart. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Just a comment. Everyone should eat a plant-based diet, of course -- that's where the sustained energy and antioxidants come from. But being vegan has no proof of being a healthy diet nor do those who invented veganism in India a long time ago and taken up now here more recently have anything to do with health, it is an ideological way of eating that assumes it doesn't kill animals.
