But if he stood no chance for recovery and survival I know he would tell me to let go. The honest answer I'm looking for is if it is a possibility he will come out of this coma like state? Or is it more typical that most folks just don't? What are his chances for survival?

But if it does happen, it is not your fault and nither were the other ones.

Avatar m tn There is some evidence to suggest that herpes virus could stay alive for a few hours if on a warm, moist environmental surface, but not a tube of anything for months. I'm not clear why anyone would use an antibiotic cream on a viral cold sore, either, but that's a different story completely. The herpes virus needs cells in which to live and there would be no support for the virus in the circumstance that you describe.

Avatar f tn This is a question that is almost impossible to answer. There are statistics that deal with generalities but none of them actually deal with any one specific case. I have never relied on published percentages as I feel there are too many variables in each person's cancer as well as the response to the therapy. You might search for Statistics of Survival Rates on the Internet but I wouldn't ever depend on them for myself.

Avatar m tn Here is further explanation of the limitations of survival rate statistics, which I have copied from a previous related thread: "In regard to your request for survival and recurrence figures, I'm not sure it's so much that your doctors won't give straight answers, as that such statistics are not meant to be applied to INDIVIDUALS. They are meant primarily as a general guideline for treatment decisions.

Avatar f tn My sister-in-law had a mastectomy 3 years ago after being diagnosed with cancer for the second time (in the same brreast). She looks fit and well but I lost another relative to cancer following secondaries 20 years ago and I'm worried my husband may also lose his sister to this terrible desease. I always thought that secondary diagnosis was virtually a death sentence. I know every case is different but what is the likely outcome for this woman, so very dear to many?
