1102283 tn?1257817472 Although, due to the extremely low bioavailability of Sumatriptan tablets, they do not always work well for everyone (although Sumatriptan is still the most prescribed triptan on the market). Zomig Nasal Spray has the highest bioavailability, followed by Imitrex Injection (but Imitrex Injection isn't a suggestion except in severe situations).
Avatar n tn d suggest trying another triptan. There are lots on the market. I use zomig nasal spray, it works fairly well... not 100%, but, it can stop a lot of my migraines. If zomig doesn't work for you, there are still tons of other triptans on the market.. maxalt... and try different types of delivery methods too. Are you taking tablets. Tablets do NOT work very well AT ALL. Try a triptan in a nasal spray.
Avatar m tn If he has a chronic sinus infection, typical antibiotic treatment is for 4-6 weeks. A nasal steroid spray is also beneficial as well as oral steroids. Nasal saline irrigations over the counter like NeilMed or Neti pot are very effective. The best diagnosis for this problem is a CT of the sinuses. Surgery is recommended to patients that fail maximal medical treatment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn t want to have to give yourself an injection! and zomig nasal spray works great!! try zomig nasal spray or imitrex nasal spray first before injections... injections can cause skin irritation and stuff, it should be a last resort!
Avatar m tn The triptan that I take is called zomig, and I take a nasal spray version. There are lots of triptans on the market and imitrex is one of the first, the generic name is called sumatriptan and it is what they will give you in the hospital, but by injecteion, if you ever go in for a migraine... they won't give you any other triptan at the hospital usually because sumatriptan by injection is pretty much the best triptan out there!!
545538 tn?1295992017 Allergy meds should be fine however we get so dehydrated on tx that you might want to consider waiting a little while until the meds get absorbed and then use some saline to clean you nasal passages and water them up a bit. I know when I take any benedryl or flonase type thing I get a bit dehydrated from them as it is........on tx well doesn't sound like fun!
Avatar f tn p.s., my neurologist also has me on 400-500mg of magnesium and she also talked about a high dose of riboflavin. The two together are supposed to help. I take slomag because the regular magnesium gives you diarrhea. Slomag also has calcium so you can't take too much of that either (more then the daily recommended total amount including what you eat) but it can still give you diarrhea if you take over 500mg. But so far it has been a good combo with the Topamax.
Avatar f tn Almotriptan (axert), Rizatriptan (maxalt), Zolmitriptan (zomig nasal spray... don't bother with the tablets, the body can't absorb the chemical in the tablet form), Sumatriptan (sumatriptan injection or treximet tablet... don't bother with imitrex tablets, the body can't absorb the chemical in tablet form). If you are having cluster headaches, then you should be taking sumatriptan injections and also be using oxygen therapy.
Avatar f tn examples are maxalt-MLT, zomig-ZMT, zomig nasal spray, imitrex or imitrex nasal spray. But, only your doctor can prescribe these or say if they are actually appropriate for you and your headache (not everyone can take them).
Avatar f tn Yes it it safe I had a cold and the doctors still recommend nasal spray for me!
Avatar f tn The only thing that allows me to breathe is a nasal spray equivalent to afrin. I used to be addicted yrs ago but now I only use it in dire emergency....like before eating or bed because I can't sleep if I can't breathe through my nose. In the past 3 days I've only used it at night and a couple other times during the day when it was really bad! I try to hold off as long as possible without using it. And I only use 1 or 2 sprays and usually only in 1 nostril.
Avatar f tn If it's,allergies you could take benadryl. That helps me when im sick and stuffy.
Avatar n tn I just read a terrifying article about pregnant women using nasal spray in their first 3 months of pregnancy. It said it cause heart and stomach defects. I used it off and on almost my entire first 6 weeks before I found out I was pregnant. Anybody else out there know anything?
Avatar f tn Yup - nasal congestion is a common symptom of pregnancy. I would mention it to your doctor though if you often have blood coming out!
1088430 tn?1259159773 Fast acting triptans are any triptans that are orally disintegrating tablets (like the Maxalt-MLTs) or Nasal Sprays or Injections. I use Zomig Nasal Spray which is another type of fast acting triptan, but Maxalt-MLTs work amazingly too... out of all of the triptans I've tried I think that Maxalt-MLTs and Zomig Nasal Spray have worked much faster than any of the other triptans. It's good he gave you samples of the Maxalt!
Avatar m tn The only thing I ever get perscribed is Nasonex, which does not help the situation! Once in a while Clariton pills will work, other time it does not. Clariton nasal spray works for the first two days then I get a rebound effect and I can't even breath through my nose during the day then. I just lost my family doctor, and no other doctor's in my area are taking patients! So unless I go to the emergency, I'm SOL! Does anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar m tn According to the Food and Drug Administration, nasal spray formulations of Desmopressin (Noctiva, others) are no longer recommended for treatment of bed-wetting due to the risk of serious side effects. Again, however, I can't stress enough that your friend should be checked by the GP, as an adult , this can signal other issues that need fairly prompt attention.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed with a nasal spray the other day to help dry up the post nasal drip that causes a wet cough. Antibiotics will not have any effect on viral infections. You can try steam inhalations. A hot bowl of water with Vick or Olbas Oil if you wish, put your head over the bowl and cover it with a towel and breathe in and out. Take care not to scald yourself. This will help to loosen up the blockage.
Avatar f tn The way I got rid of using nasal spray is to dilute the nasal spray 10% per week by using water or salt water. Continue use the diluted nasal spray, your nose will not noticed the difference. by the time (after 8 weeks) you get to 80% water, then you can cut it all off. There is a company sale this kind of diluted nasal spray solutions, but you can easily open the bottle and mix it with water yourself.
579469 tn?1311705550 s absolutely no high when using nose spray. What you get is clear wide-open nasal passages. Nasal spray is a God-send when you have a bad cold or allergies and you can't breathe. The directions say only use 3-4 days or so. Beyond that you start to develop a physical addiction. This means that abrupt cessation results in your nasal passages swelling shut for up to 4 - 8 days or so with virtually no relief until they open back up naturally again, i.e.
Avatar n tn My doctor has me taking the Hcg nasal spray, instead of the Hcg shots. Have any of you used the Hcg nasal spray? Should I have any concerns? Oh, and any advice before I start? Thanks and have a great day!
Avatar n tn It works by constricting (shrinking) blood vessels (veins and arteries) in your body. The nasal formulation acts directly on the blood vessels in your nasal tissues. Constriction of the blood vessels in your nose and sinuses leads to drainage of these areas and a decrease in congestion. One of its side effect may be elevation of blood pressure and an irregular or fast heartbeat.
