Common Questions and Answers about Sumatriptan nasal

imitrex

Avatar n tn Apo-Indomethacin and Pms-Sumatriptan was prescribed to me by my doctor. I am also on progesterin to help reduce the amount of headaches, I have been using nasal sprays as well. Month six, no change. Blood tests shows no diabetes, Thyroid, liver or kidney problems. I have been sleeping about 13-14 hours a day. I have a swollen gland on the left side of the back of my neck and has been swollen for about five years, I don't know if it is related.
1102283 tn?1257817472 Although, due to the extremely low bioavailability of Sumatriptan tablets, they do not always work well for everyone (although Sumatriptan is still the most prescribed triptan on the market). Zomig Nasal Spray has the highest bioavailability, followed by Imitrex Injection (but Imitrex Injection isn't a suggestion except in severe situations).
Avatar f tn Hello Im sorry your husband is going through this. First how do you know its cluster headaches? Has your husband been to a headache specialist? Where do u live? Google headache specialist in your area. I had 2 cluster headache cycles in my life and they are no joke almost makes migraines a piece of cake. There is also a support site called ****************.com. There are alot of treatment for cluster's.
Avatar f tn Almotriptan (axert), Rizatriptan (maxalt), Zolmitriptan (zomig nasal spray... don't bother with the tablets, the body can't absorb the chemical in the tablet form), Sumatriptan (sumatriptan injection or treximet tablet... don't bother with imitrex tablets, the body can't absorb the chemical in tablet form). If you are having cluster headaches, then you should be taking sumatriptan injections and also be using oxygen therapy.
Avatar m tn That is why you need to get a triptan in either a nasal spray or a quick dissolve tablet, such as zomig nasal spray or imitrex nasal spray or maxalt quick dissolve tablets. There is also a injection that would be fast acting too... but, they only prescribe the injection in very severe cases since no one wants to use an injection, but it is called a sumatriptan pen (because the needle sort of looks like a pen). The fastest that Zomig Nasal Spray can work is 10 minutes.
Avatar f tn I feel for you, I have them also and have tried almost everything, Imitrex Nasal is the only thing I've found that works for me, I can't take the other meds listed above either.
Avatar f tn Cannot tolerate side effects. Sumatriptan injection quickly aborts but only allotted so much per month. Almost out of injections and has no pain relief. Neuro dropped her as patient and advised to find another neuro. He states cant do any thing more fr her. Been to ER. No help. Referred to neuro. Can't get in for 3 weeks. They feel no urgency. Also dr adv her she as penial cyst but not the reason for the pain....he states has had cyst since birth?? Cannot function.
Avatar m tn The triptan that I take is called zomig, and I take a nasal spray version. There are lots of triptans on the market and imitrex is one of the first, the generic name is called sumatriptan and it is what they will give you in the hospital, but by injecteion, if you ever go in for a migraine... they won't give you any other triptan at the hospital usually because sumatriptan by injection is pretty much the best triptan out there!!
1088430 tn?1259159773 Fast acting triptans are any triptans that are orally disintegrating tablets (like the Maxalt-MLTs) or Nasal Sprays or Injections. I use Zomig Nasal Spray which is another type of fast acting triptan, but Maxalt-MLTs work amazingly too... out of all of the triptans I've tried I think that Maxalt-MLTs and Zomig Nasal Spray have worked much faster than any of the other triptans. It's good he gave you samples of the Maxalt!
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me trazodone hydrochloride for anxiety, sumatriptan succinate for migraines, zopiclone for sleep, I've been told I can take the trazodone with zopiclone, but I have the new sumatriptan tablets, it says in the medical pamphlet that it is an MAO-A inhibitor and can't be taken with antidepressants/anxiety tablets. Would it be ok to take both the trazodone hydrochloride and the sumatriptin succinate together?
Avatar f tn It seems to help most of the time. I am also on sumatriptan for migraines. This was the first time I experienced this constant pain right behind my left eye. Thought the pain was from migraines so I took sumatriptan . So migraines are a throbbing pain on one side?
Avatar f tn 2 times in a day, only twice in a week). My mom has her own medical problems, which include migraines, so I'm switching to her neuro. I've been waiting about 6 months for my appointment, which is finally coming up in March. This guy is very popular, so getting your first appointment is a long wait. I used to feel like my migraines were controllable; they didn't own me, I owned them kind of thing...
Avatar f tn I should also note that the very first time i started getting these facial pain attacks, my first doctor thought it was migraines and prescribed me Sumatriptan. And the sumatriptan did take the pain away. And I have learned that sumatriptan helps with cluster headaches. Is there any other trigeminal neuralgia sufferers out there, who suffer the same symptoms as I do? Help me please I am very confused about this condition!!! Sarah.
Avatar f tn The triptan you are currently using is Imitrex, generic name Sumatriptan. The triptan that I use is Zomig Nasal Spray, generic name Zolmitriptan. Some other examples of triptans are Maxalt, generic name Rizatriptan and Axert, generic name Almotriptan. It would be worth it to give one of these other triptans a try. I would suggest getting a triptan in a fast acting form, either a quick dissolve tablet or a nasal spray.
Avatar f tn I have a migraine of some degree about 28 days of the month. I get Botox injections, am on Topomax, Sumatriptan, anti nausea meds...the whole works. My life was changed in an instant. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar incident, and recovered??? None of my doctors can say if I will ever be free of these migraines...
Avatar n tn I wanted to know if it is ok to take my amitriptyline after i took my sumatriptan.? Can someone please help me? I took bith pills and i don't know if i was supposed to i can't remember what my doctor said.
Avatar f tn I have tried many prescription medications to help with the migraines and have found that sumatriptan has been the best so far. My GP (and my own research) says that hormones levels can be a contributor to migraines. By the way, I am also one of those people who do not have aura before the migraine and very little really seems to irritate me (eg., light, noise).
Avatar f tn I would like to know how long after taking Sumatriptan/Imitrex could any drowsiness side effect be considered to have worn off for when I get a migraine away from home and have no reasonable option to get home without driving myself. A few years ago, I got a migraine while some distance from home. I do not drive with a migraine.
518798 tn?1295212279 I usually use the imitrex nasal spray, but they didn't have any and couldn't get it in for a couple of days. I couldn't wait that long so they gave me the pills. I don't think the pills work as well as the spray. I, too, only have a couple a year, but this is the 3rd one this month. I try not to take it unless I absolutely have to because they cost so much.
Avatar n tn have you tryed sumatriptan for the pain? i have the same thing your describing, but i do have periods of remmission.. maybe only a few hours at the most. for the most part i take sumatriptan for the pain. i have no idea why it works but it works for me. if you've been on it than maybe it doesnt work, but if you havent been on it, ask your doc about it. hope any of this helps!
Avatar f tn I had a few headaches-some that I knew were tension at times, and some that were clearly migraine (a sumatriptan nasal spray was my gold. Within 20min., that migraine would be clearing up!!! And I still get migraines-but WAY far fewer! Drastically decreased!) i was dx'd back in 2005, but with nothing that was..unmanageable or...it didn't interrupt my life in any way. However, in early 2015, many symptoms came crashing down upon me.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Sumatriptan or Imigran tablets may or may not be taken with food. There are no special considerations with regards to alcohol but this may trigger or exacerbate migraine attack. This link may be helpful: http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100001324.html Take care and regards.
768044 tn?1294223436 t work then sumatriptan by injection will work for them, even if sumatriptan by tablet and nasal spray was useless to them. Let me know if you've tried it before... if not, might be something to ask the neurologist about at your appointment... especially since usually only neurologists will prescribe the injections.
Avatar f tn Some people have success treating migraine with ibuprofin (such as advil). For me nothing works except sumatriptan (such as imitrex) for you need a prescription.
