Spiriva vs albuterol

Common Questions and Answers about Spiriva vs albuterol

spiriva

Avatar f tn Yes! Spiriva is a long acting 24 hour broncho-dialator. So this means it will dialate your airway, make it bigger so air can pass thru it easier. Adviar: is a cortico-steriod. This means it is a anti-inflammatory type med that will take the inflammed part and calm it down. These are two very different medications. one holds it open and the other calms down the inflammed parts.
Avatar n tn I have emphysema. i use advair twice a day and spiriva one a day. The biggest problem for me is that I always seem to havemucus build up in the mornings. My doctor has told me to try mucinex, but that doesn't seem to work all the time. So i try using albuterol in the morning to help loosen up the mucus so that I can breath better.
Avatar n tn I have wet macular degeneration as well as COPD and my ophthamalogist theorizes that the weird "blisters" that are appearing at the site of the oozing veins may be caused by the steroid content of my asthma medication ( namely Spiriva). So he has asked me to change to something that doesn't contain any steroids. My pulmonologist has suggested I add floridil to my albuterol nebulizer.
Avatar f tn My physician has prescribed both Advair 50/250 and Spiriva, along with Pro Air p4-6h prn and nebulizer treatment (Albuterol) q4-6h prn. I am still having problems breathing. Is it okay to take these all at the same time? Will there be any side effects?
Avatar f tn I do not know the Answer but I have a question can you take Spiriva and albuterol together
Avatar m tn I currently take advair and Spiriva medication.. is this the one and only mediacation, since there are no genericand here in the united states unlike the rest of the world which has a free market, we are controlled by the drug industry.
Avatar f tn I have been put on Advair, yes to expensive!!!!...proair recue inhalier, spiriva still on, albuterol nebulizer, which i use every 4hrs, daily...and not to mention the antibiotic I was told I had to stay on for my bretheing(theophylline), and it is all pretty costly!..since the lost of his job i hav only been able to get my albuterol nebulizer meds, Theophylline, spiriva inhaler,. and numerous packs of Musinex 1200mg daily, to keep the mucus at bay!!!
Avatar m tn I use Albuterol, SPIRIVA and ADVAIR to control Asthma & COPD. I also take CRESTOR for cholesterol and ADVIL for arthritis. In the last month (after starting SPIRIVA), when I first wake up in the morning, my eyes "roll" from right to left in an arcing motion when I attempt to focus on something. After a few attempts to focus on an object (the clock on the clock radio), the movement stops and I'm fine. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...I had used Spiriva for over a year and the infections/non-infections got more frequent until I had to go to the urologist...I was on Azo Standard most of the time. I alerted my pulmonologist as to my problem and he took me off the Spiriva. Since being off the Spiriva, my breathing has gotten worse....my Dr said there was no replacement for Spiriva...I'm writing to find out what others might know.
Avatar f tn there are nebulized meds like combivent and COPD meds that may help and have less side effects there seem to be some new neublized COPD meds that I saw at the doctor's office
Avatar f tn My husband and I were putting on one of those window kits to keep out the cold air out and I became very tired and my arms and legs felt like they were burning. I use 2 inhalers a day, Spiriva and Advair Diskus 250/50 and use Albuterol inhaler as needed. I am 70 years old. I have never been real athetlic but I find I am getting weaker all the time.
1300043 tn?1272812819 s hard to breathe after walking from one end of the house to the other. Having to use my albuterol inhaler once a day, rather than once or twice a month. Is the C.O.P.D. possibly developing into bronchitis, or emphysema ?
1086884 tn?1328640455 Grocery shopping has gotten to be a chore. I take spiriva, albuterol, and ipratroplum bromide and albuterol sulfate combination but my chest is still tight with chest pain. Is there anything else I can do or will it contine to get worse?
Avatar m tn These include Albuterol, Flovent, Combivent, Spiriva, lasix, Diamox , Clariten and Nasonex. I follow a strict diet, no fatty , greasy, fried ,alcoholic or dairy. I elevate my head in bed and lay on my left side. I had test done which include upper and lower GI series, endoscope and a fluroscope. I do everything my Doctor tells me but I am still suffering . My Doctor also suggested that I lose weight.
Avatar f tn It is Lisinopril, 10 mg in the morning and evening. Other than this I take Spiriva once a day and use albuterol by nebulizer. I also take many supplements every day. I was fine yesterday after going to the doctor, in fact felt like a new person shortly after and I am assuming this is due to that shot they gave me. I felt great this morning when I went back to the doctor for a short re-check. I have another appointment for next Monday.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with early copd. Since I do not have health insurance, i go to a clinic. The physician's assistant has prescribed singular for my copd, I don't feel that it is helping me very much. I mostly have shortness of breath & coughing in the evening. This disease frightens me because I don't feel I am getting the right medical advice. I asked about simbicor & spiriva and was told that those meds are for later stages of copd.
1987536 tn?1337916244 Albuterol doesn't bother me as much as advair after reading bunches of articles :(
446049 tn?1649005835 Last week, I went to my primary care doctor last week after 3 weeks of cough/congestion. She sent me for chest xrays and started me on Albuterol inhaler, ZPak antibiotic (Azithromycin) for 5 days and mucinex. The xrays came back negative for pneumonia but indicated lungs were minimally hyperinflated. I've never smoked. I feel a bit better but still have the cough.(4 weeks now). Would Erythromycin be a better antibiotic to stop this cough?
Avatar n tn Flovent is not a rescue inhaler. Who told you that? Only Albuterol nebs or inhalers are rescue inhalers, Flovent is aka fluticasone, you can grow aspergillus with flovent and advair. Did you read the patient information that it can also cause resp infections as well as cataracts, over time? Have you changed your toothbrush, had dental cleanings or told your MD/ Have you been offered Mycelex lozenges or Diflucan?
Avatar m tn spirometry before standard albuterol treatment showed a forced vital capacity within normal linits at 2.67 liters or 90% of predicted. FEV1 severely reduced at 1.02 liters or 48% or predicted, FEV1/FVC ratio was severly reduced at 53% of predicted. Mid expiratory flow was very severely reduced at 0.35 liters per second or 14% of predicted. Maximal forced expiratory flow was severely reduced at 2.74 liters per second or 47% of predicted. Total expiratory time 11 seconds.
Avatar n tn None of the existed before Spiriva!!!! I found out that if you are on Spiriva 2 years - 5 years your chances of getting prostate cancer is 50%. If you are over 60 (I am 62) the chances are 90%.
Avatar n tn my husband has copd he uses adviar spiriva and combivent and it doesnt work what can it be thak you
Avatar n tn My questions are, How serious is this side effect, Should I continue using the Spiriva, Continue the Spiriva but stop the Symbicort, or Drop both and just take Combivent which I currently use as my emergency inhaler? Are there other alternative that I and my doc should consider.
Avatar f tn I am considering stopping treatment due to no change. I am on Advair 5000, Singulair 10mg, Spiriva, Claritin, Albuterol (both by nebulizer and fast inhaler) prednisone every month, for the last 2 years and I don't feel any better. Coughing is my main symptom, in which I will hyperventilate to the point of passing out (almost).
Avatar n tn That doctor took him off all the medications and he was fine with no adverse reactions but occasionly felt he need an albuterol inhaler. In Jan 2011 he developed a severe cold which aggravated his asthma and is now (Nov 11), and has since, been back on daily doses of Qvar, Claritin, and Rhinoqort. Again I will be taking him for a second opinion. My questions are: 1. What are the individula and/or combined side effects of taking these medications daily? 2.
Avatar f tn I was then given Advair Diskus 250/50, after 2 1/2 months called the doctor because of using emergency inhaler Albuterol Sulfate 90mgc min 10 times a day. Albuterol created a vocal cord problem. Now been put on Flovent Diskus 100mgc and continue the Albuterol. Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema.
Avatar n tn If you are taking Duoneb there is no point in taking Spiriva because Spiriva is related to the ipratropium that is a consitituant of Duoneb. Also Spiriva is extremely drying which may be why you are feeling so uncomfortable. To be using Duoneb five or six times a day you would have to be close to death. Obviously you aren't, so you can cut back without any problem. I have serious COPD and my use of Duoneb averages 3.5 vials daily. The big question is - how bad is your COPD?
Avatar f tn The textbook answer is "absolutely not". But my answer would be there is no significant harm in doing so. The problem with albuterol is that the cells become de-sensitized to the chemical, and suddenly it doesn't work at all. Sometimes a short "holiday" from albuterol will cause the cells to reset. You mom has what is sometimes called a "twitchy" lung. And it has to be de-sensitized. Often a single week or two of prednisone will do the job.
