Spiriva vs symbicort

Common Questions and Answers about Spiriva vs symbicort

spiriva

Avatar n tn My questions are, How serious is this side effect, Should I continue using the Spiriva, Continue the Spiriva but stop the Symbicort, or Drop both and just take Combivent which I currently use as my emergency inhaler? Are there other alternative that I and my doc should consider.
Avatar n tn Common COPD inhalers that contain steroids are Advair, Symbicort, Breo and Dulera.
Avatar n tn I also see a rheumotologist for UCTD and am on Placquenil and prednisone (5 mg or less QD during flares.) Was put on Spiriva and Symbicort. Had to stop Spiriva due to intolerable cholinergic effects. Am fine so far with just the Symbicort. Talked with Rheumy about value of CT scan and if it would change any of the treatments. He felt no. To me is just seems like a very expensive test and wouldn't really change anything. I don't have any clinical signs at this time of PH.
757137 tn?1347196453 Oh, what sort of side effects do you get from asthma inhalers? Personally I find that they don't bother me at all. I'm currently using Symbicort 400ug x 4puffs/day along with oxeze 12ug x 3puffs/day (long acting bronchodilator). They work well in controlling my asthma symptoms. The only symptom that doesn't go away is a chronic cough due to excess lung mucous. The long lasting bronchodilator should only be used together with a steroid inhaler.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with early copd. Since I do not have health insurance, i go to a clinic. The physician's assistant has prescribed singular for my copd, I don't feel that it is helping me very much. I mostly have shortness of breath & coughing in the evening. This disease frightens me because I don't feel I am getting the right medical advice. I asked about simbicor & spiriva and was told that those meds are for later stages of copd.
Avatar f tn DO I ALSO NEED TO BE TAKING SYMBICORT OR ADVAIR? WHAT CAN I DO TO TRY TO MANAGE MY COPD BESIDES QUIT SMOKING WHICH I HAVE CUT DOWN TO A HALF A PACK A DAY. WHICH IS ALL THAT I CAN ACCOMPLISH NOW. WHAT CAN I BE DOING TO BETTER CONTROL MY BREATHING WITH WHAT I HAVE ON HAND?
Avatar f tn Yes! Spiriva is a long acting 24 hour broncho-dialator. So this means it will dialate your airway, make it bigger so air can pass thru it easier. Adviar: is a cortico-steriod. This means it is a anti-inflammatory type med that will take the inflammed part and calm it down. These are two very different medications. one holds it open and the other calms down the inflammed parts.
Avatar f tn COPD Fev 45-50% , have been on Flovent,/Spiriva/ Proair 10 years and am sensitive to medications. I dont smoke. Have had increasingly reactive airways for 3 years, had first Dxed exacerbation last fall triggered by woodsmoke. No congestion and did not take antibiotics. Pulmo said airways 'sounded just like asthma' but do not have that Dx. Airways felt raspy, swollen, inflamed. Have slowly recovered on a higher dose of Flovent.
Avatar f tn after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...I had used Spiriva for over a year and the infections/non-infections got more frequent until I had to go to the urologist...I was on Azo Standard most of the time. I alerted my pulmonologist as to my problem and he took me off the Spiriva. Since being off the Spiriva, my breathing has gotten worse....my Dr said there was no replacement for Spiriva...I'm writing to find out what others might know.
Avatar f tn It is Lisinopril, 10 mg in the morning and evening. Other than this I take Spiriva once a day and use albuterol by nebulizer. I also take many supplements every day. I was fine yesterday after going to the doctor, in fact felt like a new person shortly after and I am assuming this is due to that shot they gave me. I felt great this morning when I went back to the doctor for a short re-check. I have another appointment for next Monday.
Avatar f tn I would like to know whether I should use the inhalers they gave me (spiriva and seretide) for my condition, COPD, irrespective of whether I get some relief from them. Can they slow down the lung deterioration process? Should I really go on inhaling for ever?... in other words, if these medicines are only - or mostly - intended to make me feel better (which they don't), can I stop taking them? I perceive them as a nuisance and the result of a pharmaceutically oriented approach.
Avatar f tn He is prescribed 16 hrs oxygen daily (we have machine)but only uses this when he feels he needs it (some days as little as 3 hours). He daily takes spiriva, symbicort and sabutamol inhalers and calcichew tablets also mucodyne capsules occassionally. These are prescribed by his doctor. He also takes Nytol (over the counter) herbal sleep tablets quite often. For the past 18months he has suffered from a tingling, burning feeling in his skin.
1580703 tn?1651904887 ve tried symbicort, dulera, prednisone, combivent, diamox but my O2 is dangerously low when I have a bad sleep apnea night. I have resistance when I exhale. Is there a medication that can help like cromolyn or a COPD med? I tried spiriva but it didn't seem to do anything.
Avatar m tn I have shortness of breath and pain in the lung/ back area. I am on spiriva, symbicort, ventolin, levalbuteral, and 800 ibuprofen. This has been going on for 5 months. X- ray was clear two months ago. All blood labs and cultures clear. My doctors do not know what to do for me? I'm constantly tired and in pain and short of breath. I'm 25, and should not be this sick!
Avatar f tn The new doctor agreed that I had asthma and prescribed Singular and Symbicort. Again, I saw no results but my doctor insisted that I stayed with the treatment. After I year, I moved to Japan and was still using Symbicort and Singular with no affect on my cough. I started seeing a new doctor who told me that I had walking pneumonia. He prescribed a large round of anitboitics. Little has changed.
1422961 tn?1282587806 FEV1 pre-26, post-32 FEV1/FVC pre-29, post-25. These were from 12/2007. I am on Spiriva, Symbicort and Proventil. I also have asthma so perhaps that has something to do with it too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn I had stool test, xray of lungs, blood test, nasal scope, (but no scope down to stomach), I am on a long list of medications inhailers Spiriva, Symbicort,& Ventolyn. I also take hi and low blood pressure medication plus ketorolac for pain from a surgery for a hernia back in 1994, I take 2 rabeprazole morning and evening, also I have been on antibiotics numerous times over the past 3 or 4 years and at present Azithromycin because the Dr.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I've tried advair, symbicort, dulera and dulera seems to be the best along with singulair...
Avatar f tn Your asthma doctor may want to increase or start controller meds like Advair, Symbicort or Dulera. Singulair may be an option for you as well. If you don't have an allergist, it is probably a good time to get one. Allergists do have treatments available for treating expectant mothers that other doctors may not think about, allergy shots top the list as they are very effective and not medicinal (natural allergens introduced to reteach the immune system not to over react to them).
620048 tn?1358018235 I got thrush from advair and taking an antibiotic at the same time. I switched to symbicort and it has never happened again even with an antibiotic. Thrush is a fungal infection and hives an allergic reaction. Thrush often happens when the bodies resistance is down. My friend with AIDS had thrush a lot.
959034 tn?1253671476 My doctor is letting me choose between flovent and qvar to take with my Symbicort. Which works better? I'm still trying to get off prednisone.
Avatar n tn None of the existed before Spiriva!!!! I found out that if you are on Spiriva 2 years - 5 years your chances of getting prostate cancer is 50%. If you are over 60 (I am 62) the chances are 90%.
Avatar n tn my husband has copd he uses adviar spiriva and combivent and it doesnt work what can it be thak you
