Spiriva lung

Common Questions and Answers about Spiriva lung

spiriva

Avatar f tn I'll try to be brief. My dr. ordered a pft last week (following three ct scans over 16 months). I had been using Spiriva for three years. My question is how long should I have been off the Spiriva for the test to show accurate results? Shouldn't I have had the test before being given Spiriva? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...I had used Spiriva for over a year and the infections/non-infections got more frequent until I had to go to the urologist...I was on Azo Standard most of the time. I alerted my pulmonologist as to my problem and he took me off the Spiriva. Since being off the Spiriva, my breathing has gotten worse....my Dr said there was no replacement for Spiriva...I'm writing to find out what others might know.
Avatar m tn When I got back to the valley I had a lung function test conducted, and the MD said Spiriva was not medically indicated. So now I'm not sure if I actually have COPD or not. Will take your advice and get a second opinion.
Avatar m tn Spiriva is extremely drying and it will make for thick mucus that is hard to cough up. Advair is also drying and I note that your extremely high dose of that inhaled steroid is not generally recommended. I got rid of Spiriva because it was drying. It didn't help anyway. I got rid of Advair because I developed adrenal fatigue, osteoporosis, and it gave me a hacking cough which exhausted me and could not have been good for my lungs.
Avatar m tn why do i cough up blood? my dr. has tried to explain it to me, something about air ways, air vents, etc. i do this the majority of the time maybe 2 days in between doing so. sometimes it's bright red and then sometimes a darker pink. i have 50% breathing capacity and am on oxygen. it's real scary even though i've been told not to worry about it. i take advair and spiriva and don't cough up that much but when i do and it is very little.
Avatar f tn COPD Fev 45-50% , have been on Flovent,/Spiriva/ Proair 10 years and am sensitive to medications. I dont smoke. Have had increasingly reactive airways for 3 years, had first Dxed exacerbation last fall triggered by woodsmoke. No congestion and did not take antibiotics. Pulmo said airways 'sounded just like asthma' but do not have that Dx. Airways felt raspy, swollen, inflamed. Have slowly recovered on a higher dose of Flovent.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with copd 5 years ago,,had pulm,,test,,,,,recently , had another lung function test,,,the doctor showed me the lsit with all the numbers ,he said a gp would look and see nothing,,but he pointed out 1 number was 176 he said that shoud be below 100,,that number shows mild to moderate emphysema,,but said he could not tell me my lung capcity,it that number bad???
Avatar f tn At my six-monthly checkup at my local hospital here in Spain there was a replacement doctor and since he was young I thought he might be willing to hear why I was not taking spiriva and steroids. He confirmed that a person with severe COPD MUST use these medicines. But - I objected - they do not cure, they’re only supposed to make you feel a little better and have nasty adverse effects.
Avatar f tn I was told to stop my spiriva in Aug. that I had been using for about 3 yrs. This was after I had a PFT for the first time. I've had three ct scans over the past three yrs. Shows granulomata and calcified nodules..no change. For the past couple of days I've been very SOB and my arms feel weak and heavy. My chest doesn't hurt it just feels tight/full. Today has been worse. I was also put on neurontin 1 1/2 weeks ago for headaches and wonder if that could have anything to do with it.
757137 tn?1347196453 Oh, what sort of side effects do you get from asthma inhalers? Personally I find that they don't bother me at all. I'm currently using Symbicort 400ug x 4puffs/day along with oxeze 12ug x 3puffs/day (long acting bronchodilator). They work well in controlling my asthma symptoms. The only symptom that doesn't go away is a chronic cough due to excess lung mucous. The long lasting bronchodilator should only be used together with a steroid inhaler.
1580703 tn?1651904887 The first step should be to establish a correct diagnosis, be it asthma or one of another lung disease that is causing the wheezing. There are more than a few lung diseases that can mimic asthma. This may require your getting a 2nd opinion from a lung specialist. This would be an additional expense but, in the long run, could save you a lot of money and misery.
Avatar n tn And it is appalling that his doctor has never prescribed him any medications for these lung diseases. They were going to perform a double lung transplant on my mother. But opted for the single lung transplant, as they felt she would not survive a double lung transplant. I too am 51 and have COPD. I very much understand your deep concern for your boyfriend. Lung transplants are extremely serious operations.
Avatar n tn My wife has had a chronic cough for about 18 months. In that time she has had a lung infection fixed, water in her lungs fixed -she has had Congestive Heart Failure since 1990 and is under constant Medical care for CHF.. During the 18 months she has tried endless cough cures without much success. The cough seems to be mainly dry but at times produces mucous. She has ofcourse had lung and Chest X-Rays during this period.
Avatar f tn I work in a busy kitchen and I have stage 2 COPD and a 66% lung capacity. I take 500 MDI of Advair twice a day and spiriva. I still smoke a little a day. I also have to work in a hot humid kitchen in the summer. I started having panic attacks when I would get busy and I would get winded easily and fustrated. I am off work presently but I want to go back soon. Anyone in a similar situation and if so, any suggestions.
Avatar m tn t go into any details it was just an abstract. Spiriva Respimat has caused my strange hacking cough to slow down but not enough. Strange breathing issue remains. Thank you in advance for any info you can provided. Here is my medication ProAir HFR inhaler as needed Digoxin 250 MCG tablet one once a day in the morning. Metoprolol Tartrate 100mg one twice a day. Pradaxa 150mg one twice a day. Lasix 40 mg one once a day at night Spiriva Respimat two puffs once a day.
Avatar m tn I have been on and off a surplus of antibiotics and prednisone. I have shortness of breath and pain in the lung/ back area. I am on spiriva, symbicort, ventolin, levalbuteral, and 800 ibuprofen. This has been going on for 5 months. X- ray was clear two months ago. All blood labs and cultures clear. My doctors do not know what to do for me? I'm constantly tired and in pain and short of breath. I'm 25, and should not be this sick!
Avatar f tn Mother worked in hosiery mills and then in 1966 @ Corning Glass Works working with glass cane cutting them down into various lengths to make resistors. She would come home covered in this "glass dust". Immediate family members that lived together with my mother had some sort of lung issues (i.e.
Avatar n tn None of the existed before Spiriva!!!! I found out that if you are on Spiriva 2 years - 5 years your chances of getting prostate cancer is 50%. If you are over 60 (I am 62) the chances are 90%.
Avatar n tn The normal lining of the lung clears phlegm by lifting it up and delivering it down the esophagus (you can think of this as the food pipe). The normal situation then is that, phlegm is swallowed in small, regulated amounts that it is entirely automatic (there is no need to push it down voluntarily in the manner of swallowing a lump of food). Smoking destroys the lining, and hence to clear phlegm – the lungs must cough it out. Hence, the cough may be persistent.
Avatar n tn my husband has copd he uses adviar spiriva and combivent and it doesnt work what can it be thak you
Avatar n tn My questions are, How serious is this side effect, Should I continue using the Spiriva, Continue the Spiriva but stop the Symbicort, or Drop both and just take Combivent which I currently use as my emergency inhaler? Are there other alternative that I and my doc should consider.
Avatar n tn I have had chest x-rays, chest CT scans, bronchoscopy. I have been diagnois with interstisial lung disease, nodules in lungs but this comes and goes. I have had staph infections in my lungs. I have a large deviated septum. I have had alot of lab work done. They have checked for lupus, diabetis, wegeners granulomatosis diaease and more. No allergy testing done yet. I have had 5 back surgeries and have rods from L-2 to S-1, I am on alot of medicine because of this.
Avatar n tn If you are taking Duoneb there is no point in taking Spiriva because Spiriva is related to the ipratropium that is a consitituant of Duoneb. Also Spiriva is extremely drying which may be why you are feeling so uncomfortable. To be using Duoneb five or six times a day you would have to be close to death. Obviously you aren't, so you can cut back without any problem. I have serious COPD and my use of Duoneb averages 3.5 vials daily. The big question is - how bad is your COPD?
Avatar n tn I have wet macular degeneration as well as COPD and my ophthamalogist theorizes that the weird "blisters" that are appearing at the site of the oozing veins may be caused by the steroid content of my asthma medication ( namely Spiriva). So he has asked me to change to something that doesn't contain any steroids. My pulmonologist has suggested I add floridil to my albuterol nebulizer.
Avatar f tn Yes! Spiriva is a long acting 24 hour broncho-dialator. So this means it will dialate your airway, make it bigger so air can pass thru it easier. Adviar: is a cortico-steriod. This means it is a anti-inflammatory type med that will take the inflammed part and calm it down. These are two very different medications. one holds it open and the other calms down the inflammed parts.
Avatar f tn The lung age of 70 years suggests that you may have lost some lung function but your doctor's having said your "lung function is fine" suggests that whatever lung function has been lost is or should be clinically insignificant. I suspect that you have COPD but that it may be in the Mild category of severity. You may also, as the pulmonologist suggested have asthma.
Avatar n tn I had my lower left lung removed when I was 21 due to an abcessed bonchiectasis. I am a runner. Lately my asthma has been causing me more frequent difficulty. I went into respiratory distress in Feb. (a first for me) and have been having more frequent asthma exacerbations requiring longer regimens of prednisone (my worst enemy...bone loss). I am continually on asthma meds to keep things at bay (advair 500/50, spiriva, asmanex, xoponex, etc.
