spiriva

Avatar m tn coughing phlegm from lungs for the past six months, have taken antibiotics with no results, did take predrisone together with SPIRIVA 18 mcg and ADVAIR 500/50 for the past month. Still coughing up phlegm and have limited lung capacity. Any suggestions comments.
Avatar f tn Spriva which is the same type drug as Advair I believe. What Spiriva is a a capsule that you place in the device for delivery of the medicine. You place the capsule in a hole inside then when you close the top and press a button a little nail shaped metal piece stabs a hole in the capsule. You blow all of your breath out slowly then suck in slowly while it delivers a little at a time to your lungs.
Avatar n tn If you are taking Duoneb there is no point in taking Spiriva because Spiriva is related to the ipratropium that is a consitituant of Duoneb. Also Spiriva is extremely drying which may be why you are feeling so uncomfortable. To be using Duoneb five or six times a day you would have to be close to death. Obviously you aren't, so you can cut back without any problem. I have serious COPD and my use of Duoneb averages 3.5 vials daily. The big question is - how bad is your COPD?
Avatar n tn My questions are, How serious is this side effect, Should I continue using the Spiriva, Continue the Spiriva but stop the Symbicort, or Drop both and just take Combivent which I currently use as my emergency inhaler? Are there other alternative that I and my doc should consider.
Avatar n tn As to Spiriva, I had to stop using it because it turned my lungs to glue. I stopped Advair because of serious choking that threatened my life. I have moderate COPD and am doing well on Duoneb (an nebulizing combination that contains albuterol) and an antihistamine. As for anything else I depend on natural supplements - vitamin B5, mullein extract, and MSM. I breathe more easily now than I have in two years. (Also Advair resulted in adrenal fatigue which I am now recovering from.
Avatar f tn I'll try to be brief. My dr. ordered a pft last week (following three ct scans over 16 months). I had been using Spiriva for three years. My question is how long should I have been off the Spiriva for the test to show accurate results? Shouldn't I have had the test before being given Spiriva? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Shortness of breath and tightness of the chest could be caused by a problem in your heart or lungs or associated with anxiety. If from the lungs, you could be experiencing Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) withdrawal symptoms, depending on what type of lung problem was being treated with the Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder).
Avatar f tn after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...I had used Spiriva for over a year and the infections/non-infections got more frequent until I had to go to the urologist...I was on Azo Standard most of the time. I alerted my pulmonologist as to my problem and he took me off the Spiriva. Since being off the Spiriva, my breathing has gotten worse....my Dr said there was no replacement for Spiriva...I'm writing to find out what others might know.
Avatar f tn I agree. They still work for me but a part of me still misses my old white buddy, rather than this new blue imposter!
Avatar f tn If people need their inhalers and they help, then I am all for it. It is a personal choice. As for me, they can keep Advair and Spiriva. Caused me nothing but problems, too. I hope you continue to feel better.
Avatar n tn I have had 5 back surgeries and have rods from L-2 to S-1, I am on alot of medicine because of this. For my lungs I take brovana, budesonide, and mucomyst in my nebulizer, spiriva, predisone, and pro air inhaler. The doctor had me start taking prilosec 2 x a day for a month to see if it helps with my acid problem which can effect the lungs. Thank You for any help you can give me!
Avatar n tn My lungs are great. I had a V6 test and the radiaation is very accurate. I take Spiriva once a day and Advair twice a day. Then I take breatihing treatments three times a day. Avatar m tn 3 times a day this will kill bacteria and fungal infections in the lungs which are responsible for copd ,emphysema. it is working for me .it will not repair any damage upto this point but it will slow or stop any further damage from occuring.
Avatar m tn I currently take advair and Spiriva medication.. is this the one and only mediacation, since there are no genericand here in the united states unlike the rest of the world which has a free market, we are controlled by the drug industry.
400099 tn?1282954864 s major side effects is to relax the smooth muscle in the body. While this is great for relieving the spasm in the lungs, it can be terrible for the smooth muscle in places like the colon (it can cause severe constipation) and the bladder (it can cause retention, not being able to start urinating, or incomplete emptying.) Thus, we see when we look at the info on the drug that 7% of normal people have bladder infections on it.
Avatar f tn But, at least I am not getting sick nearly as much, while I was being given Advair and Spiriva. Just my experience and opinion. I so hope this works out for you.
Avatar m tn I am taking Flovent, Spiriva and ProAir. Since I've been on the medication I've been Dxed with idiopathic neuropathy, cervical radiculopathy, carpel tunnel. I also have other entrapment symptoms, ulnar ,and I think in my legs as well. Sometimes I get a burst of nerve pain in my arms and legs a few minutes after using the Flovent and it also causes some tendon swelling. I've shown over and over that I have less pain on lower doses of meds.
Avatar m tn Most pulmonary function numbers indicate good function when they are high and poor or reduced function when they are low or small. Exceptions include 2 measurements, total lung capacity and residual volume. The doctor should be able to give you a better indication of your lung function than what you have described. You should have another pulmonary function test done and interpreted by a lung specialist, before you reach any false conclusions about the state of your lungs.
Avatar n tn None of the existed before Spiriva!!!! I found out that if you are on Spiriva 2 years - 5 years your chances of getting prostate cancer is 50%. If you are over 60 (I am 62) the chances are 90%.
Avatar n tn The diagnosis of COPD actually covers two different diseases, emphysema and/or chronic bronchitis. I don't know of any homeopathic treatments for emphysema, but there are herbal treatments for overall respiratory function that may help.
Avatar n tn i have copd and found spiriva wasnt working for me, after several attempts at trying different things i was put on seretide 4 times a day along with ventolin and spiriva and this settled things down nicely. Go back to doctors and have a word with him/her and advise the spiriva is not working, they will try something else for him, good luck.
Avatar n tn I have wet macular degeneration as well as COPD and my ophthamalogist theorizes that the weird "blisters" that are appearing at the site of the oozing veins may be caused by the steroid content of my asthma medication ( namely Spiriva). So he has asked me to change to something that doesn't contain any steroids. My pulmonologist has suggested I add floridil to my albuterol nebulizer.
Avatar m tn I also take hi and low blood pressure medication plus ketorolac for pain from a surgery for a hernia back in 1994, I take 2 rabeprazole morning and evening, also I have been on antibiotics numerous times over the past 3 or 4 years and at present Azithromycin because the Dr. thinks there may be a slight infection that just doesn't seem to clear up in the lungs and broncial tubes.
757137 tn?1347196453 Thank you this was very informative for me. I'm not going to use my Spiriva anymore because I believe that the risks outweigh the help which I can't find any evidence of.
