i have copd and found spiriva wasnt working for me, after several attempts at trying different things i was put on seretide 4 times a day along with ventolin and spiriva and this settled things down nicely. Go back to doctors and have a word with him/her and advise the spiriva is not working, they will try something else for him, good luck.
after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...I had used Spiriva for over a year and the infections/non-infections got more frequent until I had to go to the urologist...I was on Azo Standard most of the time. I alerted my pulmonologist as to my problem and he took me off the Spiriva. Since being off the Spiriva, my breathing has gotten worse....my Dr said there was no replacement for Spiriva...I'm writing to find out what others might know.
At my six-monthly checkup at my local hospital here in Spain there was a replacement doctor and since he was young I thought he might be willing to hear why I was not taking spiriva and steroids. He confirmed that a person with severe COPD MUST use these medicines. But - I objected - they do not cure, they’re only supposed to make you feel a little better and have nasty adverse effects.
Initially it started with allergies,then asthma.....initial days my ventolin and formoterol inhalers were working, but last 3 years it is not helping much...
I checked FEV which is 68% of predicted...but no significant increase in FEV1 after bronchodialator....
Every day I feel little tightnes, even if I take symbicort...daily moring and evening.....
saw pulmonologyst 5 months back, he suggested to continue with the same+singulair....
Feeling very desprate....please help with some suggestions.
Well thank u he does the breathing exerciises I sit up with him patting his back he's got nebs ventolin spivira but they just don't seem to help him at all. It was very nice of u to give me some advice to me I'm just feeling a bit down with it all. Social services suppose to have helped but that was a year ago.
I have shortness of breath and pain in the lung/ back area. I am on spiriva, symbicort, ventolin, levalbuteral, and 800 ibuprofen. This has been going on for 5 months. X- ray was clear two months ago. All blood labs and cultures clear. My doctors do not know what to do for me? I'm constantly tired and in pain and short of breath. I'm 25, and should not be this sick!

You are obviously doing the right things, including mouth washing after drug use and you are correct that the Spiriva and Duo-neb do not contain any steroid.
Unfortunately, some individuals develop allergy to the ipritropium in the Duo-neb or to Spiriva and the drug simply irritates the membranes of the mouth allowing the thrush to take hold.
That you also develop candidiasis under your breasts suggests that you might, for some reason be predisposed to this infectious agent.
I have emphysema. i use advair twice a day and spiriva one a day. The biggest problem for me is that I always seem to havemucus build up in the mornings. My doctor has told me to try mucinex, but that doesn't seem to work all the time. So i try using albuterol in the morning to help loosen up the mucus so that I can breath better.
lemon, lime, ginger,lemongrass and coriander, with a teaspoon of honey. We prepare a huge batch together, and once a week, and freeze it into ice blocks that are then readily available. It is a truly refreshing way to start my day.
(I had also developed arthritis, so we make up a batch of turmeric, ginger and lemongrass which is also ice cubed, and I drink that at leisure, too.)
I have omitted wheat, dairy, and sugar from my diet ....
Although I get good (better) results from the combination than Symbicort alone, since starting the Spiriva, I am experiencing very dry mouth, and nasal passages to the extent that I occasionally experience light bleeding when I blow my nose.
My questions are, How serious is this side effect, Should I continue using the Spiriva, Continue the Spiriva but stop the Symbicort, or Drop both and just take Combivent which I currently use as my emergency inhaler?
If you are taking Duoneb there is no point in taking Spiriva because Spiriva is related to the ipratropium that is a consitituant of Duoneb. Also Spiriva is extremely drying which may be why you are feeling so uncomfortable.
To be using Duoneb five or six times a day you would have to be close to death. Obviously you aren't, so you can cut back without any problem. I have serious COPD and my use of Duoneb averages 3.5 vials daily.
The big question is - how bad is your COPD?
Common COPD inhalers that contain steroids are Advair, Symbicort, Breo and Dulera.
I'll try to be brief. My dr. ordered a pft last week (following three ct scans over 16 months). I had been using Spiriva for three years. My question is how long should I have been off the Spiriva for the test to show accurate results? Shouldn't I have had the test before being given Spiriva? Thanks in advance.
Spiriva is very gritty and irritating. Also it is very drying. I stopped using it. And I got off all inhaled steroids because of the serious problems they caused. Now I use only natural anti-inflammatories and am all the better for it (as well as richer). By the way, my COPD is as bad as yours.
I was taking acetylcysteine (Mucomyst) by nebulizer for congestion. This is not always available so I had to make do in some other fashion.
g montelukast, ventolin inhaler and symbicort. Xray for the sinus and chest were also ordered which resulted to bilateral nasal congestion and clear chest. The problem is, I have been experiencing symptom of dizziness. Its been a month now and I could not take it anymore. As if I am floating always. Please, could you help me with my concern?. . I take my rescue inhaler only when absolutely needed. I had no meds like Advair and Spiriva last winter. And I only had bronchitis once. Went to my family doctor and got an antibiotic for that. I am not suggesting everyone give up their breathing meds. NOT AT ALL. But, personally for me, I am doing better without all those meds. Sure I have symptoms. Some days I do good. Other days not so good. But, at least I am not getting sick nearly as much, while I was being given Advair and Spiriva.
I read that roflumilast is a new drug that controls the inflammation that causes copd to get more severe. I currently use Spiriva and this article said that there was a higher rate of sudden death with the mist inhalers in people with vascular disease. So I am thinking about switching up after talking it over with my doctor.roflumilast is a pill you take daily.So I guess your answer would be anti-inflammatory.
1 - I am currently taking symbicort and ventolin, and someone told me that if I stop using them (even for just one day), I will have an asthma attack because of my perfume/irritant allergy. Is this true?
2 - What am I supposed to do if I have an asthma attack? Atfter I take my ventolin (for emergencies), am I supposed to go to the hospital or just wait for it to get better?
I have heard "not" I was diagnosed with acid reflux and yet I also have asthma, so they put me on spiriva and activar (something like that) and it didn't bother my so called acid reflux. It's just suppose to help with breathing. It can however bring on thrush, so be sure to wash the inhaler each time after use.
