Common Questions and Answers about Spiriva and va study

spiriva

Avatar n tn I've been using Spiriva nearly 10 years and this year my PSA results spiked from less than 1 to above 6. Where did you get your info regarding the statistics on prostate cancer, as I would much like to study it.
Avatar f tn I take my rescue inhaler only when absolutely needed. I had no meds like Advair and Spiriva last winter. And I only had bronchitis once. Went to my family doctor and got an antibiotic for that. I am not suggesting everyone give up their breathing meds. NOT AT ALL. But, personally for me, I am doing better without all those meds. Sure I have symptoms. Some days I do good. Other days not so good. But, at least I am not getting sick nearly as much, while I was being given Advair and Spiriva.
1580703 tn?1651904887 dear Doctor, my vision is blurry when I read small text and the opthamologist says I probably have early glaucoma- I did the spark field of vision test and couldn't see the peripheral sparks. I argued him into giving me steroidal eye drops. is my vision going to deteriorate and I should only read larger text? I've been on clomid and spiriva which are known to cause glaucoma and increased eye pressure.
Avatar n tn my husband has copd he uses adviar spiriva and combivent and it doesnt work what can it be thak you
Avatar f tn You are obviously doing the right things, including mouth washing after drug use and you are correct that the Spiriva and Duo-neb do not contain any steroid. Unfortunately, some individuals develop allergy to the ipritropium in the Duo-neb or to Spiriva and the drug simply irritates the membranes of the mouth allowing the thrush to take hold. That you also develop candidiasis under your breasts suggests that you might, for some reason be predisposed to this infectious agent.
471949 tn?1236904026 I had an Echo done at the VA quite a while ago...and, like all other tests at the VA, they told me it was "normal"...but upon reading my medical records I am concerned by what I read, here it what it says: "The study was technically limited. Poor image quality. Ejection fraction 50-55%. There is borderline concentric left ventricular hypertrophy. Regional wall motion abnormalities cannot be excluded due to limited visualization.
Avatar m tn office who ordered an ambulance and forwarded me to the ICU at local hospital. Spent a few days in ICU and general population with steroids, antibiotics, etc. Came home just fine did not feel bloated, short of breath, etc. Two weeks later I started to feel bloated again, then last night the breathing issue began, used bronchodilator, which eased the problem, thought I would be in emergency room again, but used the dilator about every 1 1/2 hr. which slowed things down.
Avatar n tn I have emphysema. i use advair twice a day and spiriva one a day. The biggest problem for me is that I always seem to havemucus build up in the mornings. My doctor has told me to try mucinex, but that doesn't seem to work all the time. So i try using albuterol in the morning to help loosen up the mucus so that I can breath better.
645800 tn?1466860955 The VA has endemic problems, but the veterans in my family receive excellent health care and coverage. And if memory serves, no one wants to lose their Medicare coverage, and those who are covered under federal health insurance seem to like it. I am on my knees in gratitude for the fact that where private insurance once declined me, they will have to take me now and that my husband no longer has to be beholden to a job just to make sure I have coverage.
Avatar n tn Although I get good (better) results from the combination than Symbicort alone, since starting the Spiriva, I am experiencing very dry mouth, and nasal passages to the extent that I occasionally experience light bleeding when I blow my nose. My questions are, How serious is this side effect, Should I continue using the Spiriva, Continue the Spiriva but stop the Symbicort, or Drop both and just take Combivent which I currently use as my emergency inhaler?
3151606 tn?1420356612 I am merely a cardiac patient and someone who is interested in the heart. Antegrade Conduction describes the normal direction of the cardiac pulse, from the sinus node to the ventricles. It sounds like you have a problem there. I believe Intermittent CHV is the quivering or tremoring of the upper chambers of the heart, or AFib.
Avatar n tn If you are taking Duoneb there is no point in taking Spiriva because Spiriva is related to the ipratropium that is a consitituant of Duoneb. Also Spiriva is extremely drying which may be why you are feeling so uncomfortable. To be using Duoneb five or six times a day you would have to be close to death. Obviously you aren't, so you can cut back without any problem. I have serious COPD and my use of Duoneb averages 3.5 vials daily. The big question is - how bad is your COPD?
Avatar n tn Common COPD inhalers that contain steroids are Advair, Symbicort, Breo and Dulera.
Avatar f tn after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...I had used Spiriva for over a year and the infections/non-infections got more frequent until I had to go to the urologist...I was on Azo Standard most of the time. I alerted my pulmonologist as to my problem and he took me off the Spiriva. Since being off the Spiriva, my breathing has gotten worse....my Dr said there was no replacement for Spiriva...I'm writing to find out what others might know.
Avatar f tn I'll try to be brief. My dr. ordered a pft last week (following three ct scans over 16 months). I had been using Spiriva for three years. My question is how long should I have been off the Spiriva for the test to show accurate results? Shouldn't I have had the test before being given Spiriva? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Spiriva is very gritty and irritating. Also it is very drying. I stopped using it. And I got off all inhaled steroids because of the serious problems they caused. Now I use only natural anti-inflammatories and am all the better for it (as well as richer). By the way, my COPD is as bad as yours. I was taking acetylcysteine (Mucomyst) by nebulizer for congestion. This is not always available so I had to make do in some other fashion.
645800 tn?1466860955 I got this letter today from the VA and feel they have violated several laws and really ticked me off. The letter is posted below in part: Dear Veteran XXXXXX, The SPRINT trial is a research study that will be looking for veterans who have high blood pressure at the Nashville VA and other Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in the United States. We are looking for veterans who are concerned about their blood pressure and how low it should be.
Avatar m tn coughing phlegm from lungs for the past six months, have taken antibiotics with no results, did take predrisone together with SPIRIVA 18 mcg and ADVAIR 500/50 for the past month. Still coughing up phlegm and have limited lung capacity. Any suggestions comments.
Avatar f tn I read that roflumilast is a new drug that controls the inflammation that causes copd to get more severe. I currently use Spiriva and this article said that there was a higher rate of sudden death with the mist inhalers in people with vascular disease. So I am thinking about switching up after talking it over with my doctor.roflumilast is a pill you take daily. So I guess your answer would be anti-inflammatory.
645800 tn?1466860955 P dr has a study that was done in canada in 2000 that says there is no connection between previous knee injuries, arthritis, or limping and future wear and tear on other major joints. The VA is just flat crazy and the denial reasons are even crazier.

Avatar n tn I have heard "not" I was diagnosed with acid reflux and yet I also have asthma, so they put me on spiriva and activar (something like that) and it didn't bother my so called acid reflux. It's just suppose to help with breathing. It can however bring on thrush, so be sure to wash the inhaler each time after use.
Avatar n tn It can be used occasionally, for transient worsening of COPD with Advair, and more regularly with Spiriva. If you find that you have a need for Proventil more than once a day, you should report that to your doctor who may then opt to increase your long acting medication.
645800 tn?1466860955 Yesterday when I went to the VA I got very stressed out and soon found that I was developing TN pain on the left side of my face. once I got home and slept for about 15 hours the TN stopped. This was purely stress from my PTSD symptoms. I know that stress can aggravate MS symptoms, but I'm looking for research or other documentation of this fact to present to the VA so that they will treat the effects of this stress as being service connected.
264233 tn?1216342315 this from the people that said i could not get tx in the first place. i will put all ducks in order and shoot from the hip to make va regret that statement. i also asked about being placed on a transplant list and was told that i would not have a high enough meld score at this time to be placed on a list. as you can see i have my work cut out for me right now but i am a fighter.
Avatar f tn I went back to my PCM who referred me to a cardiologist/EP that finally listened to me. I underwent an EP Study in December and he was unable to provoke any abnormal rhythms. At that time he implanted a St. Jude ILR. I have gone now three times to have it interrogated and have been found to have had two episodes of bradycardia at 44/46 bpms and my symptoms during that time were being very, very lightheaded, sweaty and nauseous.
