Spiriva and psa

Common Questions and Answers about Spiriva and psa

spiriva

Avatar n tn my husband has copd he uses adviar spiriva and combivent and it doesnt work what can it be thak you
Avatar f tn You are obviously doing the right things, including mouth washing after drug use and you are correct that the Spiriva and Duo-neb do not contain any steroid. Unfortunately, some individuals develop allergy to the ipritropium in the Duo-neb or to Spiriva and the drug simply irritates the membranes of the mouth allowing the thrush to take hold. That you also develop candidiasis under your breasts suggests that you might, for some reason be predisposed to this infectious agent.
Avatar n tn I have emphysema. i use advair twice a day and spiriva one a day. The biggest problem for me is that I always seem to havemucus build up in the mornings. My doctor has told me to try mucinex, but that doesn't seem to work all the time. So i try using albuterol in the morning to help loosen up the mucus so that I can breath better.
Avatar n tn 6, then repeat after 5 week, PSA come back 3.8, at the same time did free PSA, but fPSA is very low, and up %fPSA/PSA about 11%, and this may need biopsy. But as I mention, PSA shows so much difference in such a short time. What is his means and the if PSA and fPSA really correct or accurate? If hose test results can be trust to determine the biopsy. I read about tests, and all point cPSA id better than PSA, to calculate % to determine if biopsy really needed. Specailly if PSA is under 4.
Avatar n tn Although I get good (better) results from the combination than Symbicort alone, since starting the Spiriva, I am experiencing very dry mouth, and nasal passages to the extent that I occasionally experience light bleeding when I blow my nose. My questions are, How serious is this side effect, Should I continue using the Spiriva, Continue the Spiriva but stop the Symbicort, or Drop both and just take Combivent which I currently use as my emergency inhaler?
Avatar m tn Dr performed a DRE and found a nodule, followed by an ultrasound and found calcifications. Volume was 27 (so PSAD around 14%?). Free PSA around .53 (ratio around 13%?). He opted not to biopsy but said follow-up in six months. I've seen that prostatitis and BPH can raise the PSA, but haven't read anything about calcifications causing the rise. Is he expecting the PSA to level off or decline in six months? 27 doesn't seem "enlarged" to me anyway.
Avatar n tn If you are taking Duoneb there is no point in taking Spiriva because Spiriva is related to the ipratropium that is a consitituant of Duoneb. Also Spiriva is extremely drying which may be why you are feeling so uncomfortable. To be using Duoneb five or six times a day you would have to be close to death. Obviously you aren't, so you can cut back without any problem. I have serious COPD and my use of Duoneb averages 3.5 vials daily. The big question is - how bad is your COPD?
Avatar m tn Thanks I got another psa and a free psa . Results psa 3.7 and free psa 17%. Psa up again and free psa should be 25% or higher. Not good enough to say no to biopsy. Scheduled for wed. With agleason of 7 what option did you take radical, seeds, radiation or other.
Avatar n tn Common COPD inhalers that contain steroids are Advair, Symbicort, Breo and Dulera.
Avatar f tn after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...I had used Spiriva for over a year and the infections/non-infections got more frequent until I had to go to the urologist...I was on Azo Standard most of the time. I alerted my pulmonologist as to my problem and he took me off the Spiriva. Since being off the Spiriva, my breathing has gotten worse....my Dr said there was no replacement for Spiriva...I'm writing to find out what others might know.
Avatar f tn I'll try to be brief. My dr. ordered a pft last week (following three ct scans over 16 months). I had been using Spiriva for three years. My question is how long should I have been off the Spiriva for the test to show accurate results? Shouldn't I have had the test before being given Spiriva? Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn My husband is 50, recent PSA was 4.1 and free PSA was 12%. MD has put him on Bactrim DS BID for ten days, then will repeat PSA and do a transrectal ultrasound. My husband is convinced this is cancer. What would be the next step?
Avatar n tn i did some research and found that if i had ejaculated within 48 hours of blood test that can elevate my PSA. I dont recall but might have had sex both nights before morning test. My two questions.. What are other possible reasons for high PSA other than cancer and which are the most common? Should Doctor have talked about the other possible reason rather than leave me and my family worried about a shortened lifetime on my part?
Avatar f tn Spiriva is very gritty and irritating. Also it is very drying. I stopped using it. And I got off all inhaled steroids because of the serious problems they caused. Now I use only natural anti-inflammatories and am all the better for it (as well as richer). By the way, my COPD is as bad as yours. I was taking acetylcysteine (Mucomyst) by nebulizer for congestion. This is not always available so I had to make do in some other fashion.
Avatar m tn My father found prostate cancer at 65 (12 years ago, the reason I started checking every year), had radiation and is alive with a .03 psa today at 76.
Avatar n tn By 8 to 10 weeks though, most of that inflammation should have subsided and your PSA level would not be affected. If there is doubt, you can repeat PSA in a couple weeks to verify the value.
5681515 tn?1372270707 Sept of 2011 my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and a PSA of 5000. He was in extreme pain with Bone Metastasis. The treatments, cosadex and eligard injections gave him immediate results and eliminated all of his pain. During treatments PSA dropped to 0.3. Now his PSA is at 22.7 but without any physical symptoms.
Avatar m tn coughing phlegm from lungs for the past six months, have taken antibiotics with no results, did take predrisone together with SPIRIVA 18 mcg and ADVAIR 500/50 for the past month. Still coughing up phlegm and have limited lung capacity. Any suggestions comments.
Avatar f tn I take my rescue inhaler only when absolutely needed. I had no meds like Advair and Spiriva last winter. And I only had bronchitis once. Went to my family doctor and got an antibiotic for that. I am not suggesting everyone give up their breathing meds. NOT AT ALL. But, personally for me, I am doing better without all those meds. Sure I have symptoms. Some days I do good. Other days not so good. But, at least I am not getting sick nearly as much, while I was being given Advair and Spiriva.
Avatar f tn I read that roflumilast is a new drug that controls the inflammation that causes copd to get more severe. I currently use Spiriva and this article said that there was a higher rate of sudden death with the mist inhalers in people with vascular disease. So I am thinking about switching up after talking it over with my doctor.roflumilast is a pill you take daily. So I guess your answer would be anti-inflammatory.
Avatar f tn I am now 68 and I have had a hard prostate for the last 6 years with no symptoms but a rising PSA. 4 months ago my PSA was 10.8 now 4 months later it is 15.7 and still no symptoms. For 6 years each DRE has produced a hard prostate with rising PSA. If my prostate had cancer in it being hard for the last 6 years wouldn't there be some signs of prostate cancer other then rising PSA?
Avatar f tn My husband had a prostate MRI one week ago and the doctor's office called and set up an appointment for next week to, I suppose, reveal the results. I'm assuming if it were good news, he might have just said on the phone without an appointment. My question: is a prostate MRI sufficient to determine cancer or would a biopsy have to be the definitive answer? Can he say "it's cancer" and then set up a treatment plan or do we have one more step?
Avatar n tn I have heard "not" I was diagnosed with acid reflux and yet I also have asthma, so they put me on spiriva and activar (something like that) and it didn't bother my so called acid reflux. It's just suppose to help with breathing. It can however bring on thrush, so be sure to wash the inhaler each time after use.
Avatar n tn It can be used occasionally, for transient worsening of COPD with Advair, and more regularly with Spiriva. If you find that you have a need for Proventil more than once a day, you should report that to your doctor who may then opt to increase your long acting medication.
1550149 tn?1340000730 I know many people with dual or even triple diagnoses - RA and lupus, lupus and PsA, RA and fibromyalgia, etc. Whatever the diagnosis, though, the treatment for RA, PsA and lupus are nearly identical. So what label you stick on it is less important than what meds work for you to make you feel better and slow down or halt the disease progression.
