Spiriva and nut allergies

Common Questions and Answers about Spiriva and nut allergies

spiriva

Avatar m tn They did a skin prick test that showed a severe (based on the size of the hive) allergu to pistachios, hazelnuts and almonds and a light allergy to peanuts. I was prescribed an epi pen and was told to stay away from all nuts to be safe...but peanuts should be ok in moderation. I was shocked! I have eaten peanut butter and nuttella my entire life, I've had almonds and pistachio is my favorite ice cream flavor. Needles to say I went to get a second opinion.
Avatar n tn I've been using Spiriva nearly 10 years and this year my PSA results spiked from less than 1 to above 6. Where did you get your info regarding the statistics on prostate cancer, as I would much like to study it.
Avatar n tn my husband has copd he uses adviar spiriva and combivent and it doesnt work what can it be thak you
Avatar f tn You are obviously doing the right things, including mouth washing after drug use and you are correct that the Spiriva and Duo-neb do not contain any steroid. Unfortunately, some individuals develop allergy to the ipritropium in the Duo-neb or to Spiriva and the drug simply irritates the membranes of the mouth allowing the thrush to take hold. That you also develop candidiasis under your breasts suggests that you might, for some reason be predisposed to this infectious agent.
Avatar n tn I have emphysema. i use advair twice a day and spiriva one a day. The biggest problem for me is that I always seem to havemucus build up in the mornings. My doctor has told me to try mucinex, but that doesn't seem to work all the time. So i try using albuterol in the morning to help loosen up the mucus so that I can breath better.
1021174 tn?1251635887 However, there is a high level of allergic cross-reactivity between peanuts and tree nuts, meaning that people with tree nut allergies are at increased risk of developing peanut allergies. If you are diagnosed with a tree nut allergy, your allergist will advise you whether to avoid peanuts as well. C~http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn People can have sensitivities that tested negative for allergies. So, watch for behavioral and mood changes, and watch for bowel habit changes. Food sensitivities can even cause headaches and sore throats--even if one tests negative for "true" allergies. Unusual hyperactivity or unusual lethargy can also be food sensitivities. A simpler way to look at food sensitivities is the other layman's term is sometimes referred to as hidden food allergies.
Avatar f tn Is this true? Is there a cure for nut allergies? I have had my allergy all my life apparently but i only discovered it 5 years ago. My life has always been more complicated and awkward ever since. So if there is a cure i want to get it. Has anyone ever got the cure? How does it work? Thank you!
Avatar n tn My three and a half month old son has already developed some nasty allergies (nuts and eggs and a long list of others that keeps growing) and we're waiting to see an allergist... However, this morning one of his sisters ate a cereal with nuts in it and kissed him. He broke out in his usual hives and his breathing sounded raspy, but after a short while holding him, he seemed fine (and with cortisone the hives went away).
Avatar f tn I have several friends of kids with nut allergies who often eat there and have not had a problem. Also my son seems to feel comfortable eating there - he is peanut and tree nut allergic and even requested to go there on his birthday. You could also try BoneFish Grill in Paramus who seem to be very allergy aware.
Avatar n tn Although I get good (better) results from the combination than Symbicort alone, since starting the Spiriva, I am experiencing very dry mouth, and nasal passages to the extent that I occasionally experience light bleeding when I blow my nose. My questions are, How serious is this side effect, Should I continue using the Spiriva, Continue the Spiriva but stop the Symbicort, or Drop both and just take Combivent which I currently use as my emergency inhaler?
Avatar n tn If you are taking Duoneb there is no point in taking Spiriva because Spiriva is related to the ipratropium that is a consitituant of Duoneb. Also Spiriva is extremely drying which may be why you are feeling so uncomfortable. To be using Duoneb five or six times a day you would have to be close to death. Obviously you aren't, so you can cut back without any problem. I have serious COPD and my use of Duoneb averages 3.5 vials daily. The big question is - how bad is your COPD?
Avatar n tn I have ate nuts, peanuts, honey and cheerios before so what is differant about honey nut cheerios. I had red burning hands and rash everywhere and my stomach hurt. Anyone out there with a guess.
Avatar n tn Common COPD inhalers that contain steroids are Advair, Symbicort, Breo and Dulera.
Avatar f tn The ingredients may not be nut related, but play it with caution and take it in small quantities and check for reactions. It may help to maintain a food dairy and keep monitoring your symptoms. This will help to narrow the search and avoid them. Also, allergy testing may be worth looking into. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've been anaphylaxic to tree nuts since I was a kid so have always avoided any kind of nut. Now recently I had a skin ***** test and tested 4+ to all except almonds which I didn't even get a reaction to(!!)...but pine nuts were not included. I was wondering if pine nuts/cedar nuts are included in a tree nut family? Or are they like coconut and other named nuts that aren't actually nuts (doughnuts?) ;) Thank you!
Avatar f tn after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...I had used Spiriva for over a year and the infections/non-infections got more frequent until I had to go to the urologist...I was on Azo Standard most of the time. I alerted my pulmonologist as to my problem and he took me off the Spiriva. Since being off the Spiriva, my breathing has gotten worse....my Dr said there was no replacement for Spiriva...I'm writing to find out what others might know.
Avatar f tn I'll try to be brief. My dr. ordered a pft last week (following three ct scans over 16 months). I had been using Spiriva for three years. My question is how long should I have been off the Spiriva for the test to show accurate results? Shouldn't I have had the test before being given Spiriva? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn I have nut/milk allergies. have you had blood/skin testing at an allergist? you can get allergy shots from a doctor since your allergy is severe I would be really careful and read all food labels and even avoid the foods that were processed on machines that processed nuts can you get wheezing and swollen throat from a nut allergy?
Avatar f tn Spiriva is very gritty and irritating. Also it is very drying. I stopped using it. And I got off all inhaled steroids because of the serious problems they caused. Now I use only natural anti-inflammatories and am all the better for it (as well as richer). By the way, my COPD is as bad as yours. I was taking acetylcysteine (Mucomyst) by nebulizer for congestion. This is not always available so I had to make do in some other fashion.
Avatar m tn my son got some scraps on his elbow knee and stomach.
