Spiriva and cough

Common Questions and Answers about Spiriva and cough

spiriva

Avatar m tn Spiriva is extremely drying and it will make for thick mucus that is hard to cough up. Advair is also drying and I note that your extremely high dose of that inhaled steroid is not generally recommended. I got rid of Spiriva because it was drying. It didn't help anyway. I got rid of Advair because I developed adrenal fatigue, osteoporosis, and it gave me a hacking cough which exhausted me and could not have been good for my lungs.
Avatar m tn why do i cough up blood? my dr. has tried to explain it to me, something about air ways, air vents, etc. i do this the majority of the time maybe 2 days in between doing so. sometimes it's bright red and then sometimes a darker pink. i have 50% breathing capacity and am on oxygen. it's real scary even though i've been told not to worry about it. i take advair and spiriva and don't cough up that much but when i do and it is very little.
Avatar n tn During the 18 months she has tried endless cough cures without much success. The cough seems to be mainly dry but at times produces mucous. She has ofcourse had lung and Chest X-Rays during this period. We are both past our mid eighties andwonder if anyone has ideas which might help.
Avatar n tn I've been using Spiriva nearly 10 years and this year my PSA results spiked from less than 1 to above 6. Where did you get your info regarding the statistics on prostate cancer, as I would much like to study it.
Avatar f tn t like ProAir either because for some reason, it increases the phlegm in my chst and I cough like crazy after using it. It has some ingredient that actually exacerbates my asthma. Any suggestions?? Thanks so much! Oh, and I also take Claritin, Symbicort, and sometimes Spiriva for control.
757137 tn?1347196453 I take supplements to reduce inflammation and thin mucus. I have moderate COPD and am doing fairly well, but would benefit from a longer-lasting medication. Any suggestions? This discussion is related to Advair Skip a Day.
Avatar n tn my husband has copd he uses adviar spiriva and combivent and it doesnt work what can it be thak you
Avatar f tn You are obviously doing the right things, including mouth washing after drug use and you are correct that the Spiriva and Duo-neb do not contain any steroid. Unfortunately, some individuals develop allergy to the ipritropium in the Duo-neb or to Spiriva and the drug simply irritates the membranes of the mouth allowing the thrush to take hold. That you also develop candidiasis under your breasts suggests that you might, for some reason be predisposed to this infectious agent.
Avatar f tn It is Lisinopril, 10 mg in the morning and evening. Other than this I take Spiriva once a day and use albuterol by nebulizer. I also take many supplements every day. I was fine yesterday after going to the doctor, in fact felt like a new person shortly after and I am assuming this is due to that shot they gave me. I felt great this morning when I went back to the doctor for a short re-check. I have another appointment for next Monday.
Avatar n tn I have emphysema. i use advair twice a day and spiriva one a day. The biggest problem for me is that I always seem to havemucus build up in the mornings. My doctor has told me to try mucinex, but that doesn't seem to work all the time. So i try using albuterol in the morning to help loosen up the mucus so that I can breath better.
Avatar f tn Well thank u he does the breathing exerciises I sit up with him patting his back he's got nebs ventolin spivira but they just don't seem to help him at all. It was very nice of u to give me some advice to me I'm just feeling a bit down with it all. Social services suppose to have helped but that was a year ago.
Avatar m tn Is there anything I can avoid, which would help me, to produce less mucus, I live in a very damp part of England, and recently,2002! I was diagnosed as having Bronchiectasisis. Daily I produce Mucus, but recently it has got a lot worse, and is now continuous, It's very Anti Social.
Avatar f tn Again, I saw no results but my doctor insisted that I stayed with the treatment. After I year, I moved to Japan and was still using Symbicort and Singular with no affect on my cough. I started seeing a new doctor who told me that I had walking pneumonia. He prescribed a large round of anitboitics. Little has changed. I still have coughing attacks anytime I do anything physical (walking up stairs, riding a bike, waking up in the morning, etc.).
Avatar m tn I have a weird breathing issue and a strange hacking cough. Not sure if it is my medications or voice box damage. The only thing I can figure out, there might have have been some minor damage to my voice box during surgery, but I talk fine. If it is my medications. I am going to have to make a decision whether to increase my stoke risk or keep coughing and hacking. I don't really know how much Pradaxa reduces the stroke risk.
Avatar n tn Although I get good (better) results from the combination than Symbicort alone, since starting the Spiriva, I am experiencing very dry mouth, and nasal passages to the extent that I occasionally experience light bleeding when I blow my nose. My questions are, How serious is this side effect, Should I continue using the Spiriva, Continue the Spiriva but stop the Symbicort, or Drop both and just take Combivent which I currently use as my emergency inhaler?
Avatar f tn Yes, it is possible to have constant shortness of breath with asthma. That is how I started and still am like when it is out of control. The one good news is that steroid inhalers work very well for asthma and do relieve the chest tightness, shortness of breath and any other symptoms you may have. You said that you were a smoker? Did you doctor check to make sure you don't have chronic bronchitis? Do you have a cough, and produce mucous? This is very important thing to treat early.
Avatar n tn If you are taking Duoneb there is no point in taking Spiriva because Spiriva is related to the ipratropium that is a consitituant of Duoneb. Also Spiriva is extremely drying which may be why you are feeling so uncomfortable. To be using Duoneb five or six times a day you would have to be close to death. Obviously you aren't, so you can cut back without any problem. I have serious COPD and my use of Duoneb averages 3.5 vials daily. The big question is - how bad is your COPD?
757137 tn?1347196453 Last April I got the cough back with revenge. Its Dec/14 , 8 months later and I still have the cough. Its a tickle on my throat and I need to cough. Ususally during the day it comes out clear discharge but in the morning I get thick white mucus. Last july i went to an specialist, he said the ct scan was clear, the blood test i had very high allergy to dandelions which I was on the garden all summer.
Avatar n tn Common COPD inhalers that contain steroids are Advair, Symbicort, Breo and Dulera.
Avatar f tn after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...I had used Spiriva for over a year and the infections/non-infections got more frequent until I had to go to the urologist...I was on Azo Standard most of the time. I alerted my pulmonologist as to my problem and he took me off the Spiriva. Since being off the Spiriva, my breathing has gotten worse....my Dr said there was no replacement for Spiriva...I'm writing to find out what others might know.
Avatar f tn I'll try to be brief. My dr. ordered a pft last week (following three ct scans over 16 months). I had been using Spiriva for three years. My question is how long should I have been off the Spiriva for the test to show accurate results? Shouldn't I have had the test before being given Spiriva? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Spiriva is very gritty and irritating. Also it is very drying. I stopped using it. And I got off all inhaled steroids because of the serious problems they caused. Now I use only natural anti-inflammatories and am all the better for it (as well as richer). By the way, my COPD is as bad as yours. I was taking acetylcysteine (Mucomyst) by nebulizer for congestion. This is not always available so I had to make do in some other fashion.
Avatar f tn My IGE level is 225, I want to know what that means as to severity. I have been on Xolair for one year, 300mg every two weeks, and I don't feel as if it has helped. I am considering stopping treatment due to no change. I am on Advair 500\50, Singulair 10mg, Spiriva, Claritin, Albuterol (both by nebulizer and fast inhaler) prednisone every month, for the last 2 years and I don't feel any better.
Avatar m tn Thanks for responding! I guess it's just so difficult for me to comprehend that it's anxiety. I truly don't worry about anything (except why i feel so terrible, and I certainly didn't worry about my health before my episode.) I acutally read some things about COPD and I'm not entirely conviced it's that either. Every doctor I've seen so far has asked me if I cough alot, and I hardly ever cough. I did when I smoked, but I don't anymore. Do you cough alot?
Avatar f tn I take my rescue inhaler only when absolutely needed. I had no meds like Advair and Spiriva last winter. And I only had bronchitis once. Went to my family doctor and got an antibiotic for that. I am not suggesting everyone give up their breathing meds. NOT AT ALL. But, personally for me, I am doing better without all those meds. Sure I have symptoms. Some days I do good. Other days not so good. But, at least I am not getting sick nearly as much, while I was being given Advair and Spiriva.
