Spiriva and bph

Common Questions and Answers about Spiriva and bph

spiriva

Avatar n tn I've been using Spiriva nearly 10 years and this year my PSA results spiked from less than 1 to above 6. Where did you get your info regarding the statistics on prostate cancer, as I would much like to study it.
Avatar n tn my husband has copd he uses adviar spiriva and combivent and it doesnt work what can it be thak you
Avatar f tn You are obviously doing the right things, including mouth washing after drug use and you are correct that the Spiriva and Duo-neb do not contain any steroid. Unfortunately, some individuals develop allergy to the ipritropium in the Duo-neb or to Spiriva and the drug simply irritates the membranes of the mouth allowing the thrush to take hold. That you also develop candidiasis under your breasts suggests that you might, for some reason be predisposed to this infectious agent.
Avatar n tn I have emphysema. i use advair twice a day and spiriva one a day. The biggest problem for me is that I always seem to havemucus build up in the mornings. My doctor has told me to try mucinex, but that doesn't seem to work all the time. So i try using albuterol in the morning to help loosen up the mucus so that I can breath better.
Avatar n tn Although I get good (better) results from the combination than Symbicort alone, since starting the Spiriva, I am experiencing very dry mouth, and nasal passages to the extent that I occasionally experience light bleeding when I blow my nose. My questions are, How serious is this side effect, Should I continue using the Spiriva, Continue the Spiriva but stop the Symbicort, or Drop both and just take Combivent which I currently use as my emergency inhaler?
Avatar n tn If you are taking Duoneb there is no point in taking Spiriva because Spiriva is related to the ipratropium that is a consitituant of Duoneb. Also Spiriva is extremely drying which may be why you are feeling so uncomfortable. To be using Duoneb five or six times a day you would have to be close to death. Obviously you aren't, so you can cut back without any problem. I have serious COPD and my use of Duoneb averages 3.5 vials daily. The big question is - how bad is your COPD?
Avatar n tn Common COPD inhalers that contain steroids are Advair, Symbicort, Breo and Dulera.
Avatar m tn Older drugs, phenoxybenzamine and prazosin are not recommended for treatment of BPH.[5] Alpha-blockers relax smooth muscle in the prostate and the bladder neck, and decrease the degree of blockage of urine flow. Alpha-blockers may cause ejaculation back into the bladder (retrograde ejaculation). The 5α-reductase inhibitors (finasteride and dutasteride) are another treatment option.
Avatar f tn after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...I had used Spiriva for over a year and the infections/non-infections got more frequent until I had to go to the urologist...I was on Azo Standard most of the time. I alerted my pulmonologist as to my problem and he took me off the Spiriva. Since being off the Spiriva, my breathing has gotten worse....my Dr said there was no replacement for Spiriva...I'm writing to find out what others might know.
Avatar f tn I'll try to be brief. My dr. ordered a pft last week (following three ct scans over 16 months). I had been using Spiriva for three years. My question is how long should I have been off the Spiriva for the test to show accurate results? Shouldn't I have had the test before being given Spiriva? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Spiriva is very gritty and irritating. Also it is very drying. I stopped using it. And I got off all inhaled steroids because of the serious problems they caused. Now I use only natural anti-inflammatories and am all the better for it (as well as richer). By the way, my COPD is as bad as yours. I was taking acetylcysteine (Mucomyst) by nebulizer for congestion. This is not always available so I had to make do in some other fashion.
Avatar m tn Hello, I recently had a rigid cystoscopy and I have been placed on Pinexel PR for 2 months by my urologist. I had a bladder neck level problem and BPH. I have some issues with this medication, specifically retrograde ejaculation which is not acceptable for me at 26 years old. My question is, are there alternative medications which deal with the problem (shrinking prostate instead of masking the symptoms) and could this be prostatitis as I have had UTI's in the past.
Avatar m tn However, it is possible that the difficulty in urination could be due to the BPH itself and not related to the possible drug interaction. If the problem is due to an enlarged prostate, it would be better to have him undergo some procedures such as PVP (photoselective vaporization) to treat the BPH. This procedure is of a shorter duration with better recovery and fewer chances of complications than TURP.
Avatar n tn I am 64 years old and have had BPH symptoms for about eighteen years. My symptoms have become progressively more severe with time and I probably should be considering some form of surgical intervention. Although the various surgical options are effective, I do not perceive any of them to be an elegant approach to this problem. Therefore, I have made a decision to do nothing in the surgical arena until I absolutely have no other choice.
Avatar m tn I underwent TURP on 11 th Feb for BPH and got discharged after 5 days after removal of catheter I am having a small flow of urine leaking in standing posture and walking mode. My urologist advised Kegel exercise which I am doing.
Avatar m tn coughing phlegm from lungs for the past six months, have taken antibiotics with no results, did take predrisone together with SPIRIVA 18 mcg and ADVAIR 500/50 for the past month. Still coughing up phlegm and have limited lung capacity. Any suggestions comments.
Avatar f tn I take my rescue inhaler only when absolutely needed. I had no meds like Advair and Spiriva last winter. And I only had bronchitis once. Went to my family doctor and got an antibiotic for that. I am not suggesting everyone give up their breathing meds. NOT AT ALL. But, personally for me, I am doing better without all those meds. Sure I have symptoms. Some days I do good. Other days not so good. But, at least I am not getting sick nearly as much, while I was being given Advair and Spiriva.
Avatar f tn I read that roflumilast is a new drug that controls the inflammation that causes copd to get more severe. I currently use Spiriva and this article said that there was a higher rate of sudden death with the mist inhalers in people with vascular disease. So I am thinking about switching up after talking it over with my doctor.roflumilast is a pill you take daily. So I guess your answer would be anti-inflammatory.
Avatar n tn I had a Henia last year 2007 this pinched my bladder but gave the symptoms of a Urine Infection, I saw another Urologist who gave me the finger in the rectum examination, between the exam and blood tests the Urologist told me I had the prostate of a 35 year old and had just a 5% chance of ever getting prostate cancer. So there you have it, I can see no problem in frequent masturbation and yes it may help your problem. Good Luck.
Avatar n tn I have heard "not" I was diagnosed with acid reflux and yet I also have asthma, so they put me on spiriva and activar (something like that) and it didn't bother my so called acid reflux. It's just suppose to help with breathing. It can however bring on thrush, so be sure to wash the inhaler each time after use.
Avatar n tn It can be used occasionally, for transient worsening of COPD with Advair, and more regularly with Spiriva. If you find that you have a need for Proventil more than once a day, you should report that to your doctor who may then opt to increase your long acting medication.
1616953 tn?1443835511 I'm not keen on any medical costs right now. I'm on a payment plan for surgery (Twice) on my feet. My BPH is getting worse and I'm pondering asking about TURP surgery. I took Flomax for 3+ years and other then a dose increase it all went ok until a little while ago.
Avatar f tn My guess would be if it is day 5 without the inhalers, then they should be out of your system. I too had problems with Advair and Spiriva. I was diagnosed in Oct. 07 with moderate COPD. Was put on Advair, Spiriva and ProAir as my rescue inhaler. After being on the Advair and Spiriva for several months, I began to become ill. Spent the sickest winter of my life, while on these inhalers. Bronchitis, pneumonia and pleurisy that was so painful for 3 months. I was doing okay before the inhalers.
Avatar m tn I am a 69 year old male with BPH, and a father who had prostate cancer for 15 years, but did not die from it. I have had two bouts of acute prostatitis causing complete retention in the last 7 years, one requiring catheterization. My PSA averages around 2.0, and I take Proscar and Cardura daily. My BPH symptoms are fairly mild causing only about one or two nights a month of nocturia, reduced urine flow, and hardly ever the feeling of urgency.
Avatar m tn I currently take advair and Spiriva medication.. is this the one and only mediacation, since there are no genericand here in the united states unlike the rest of the world which has a free market, we are controlled by the drug industry.
Avatar m tn Even if you stopped or switched to another type you could still have floppy iris syndrome. If it works keep on it and tell your eye surgeon. Special techniques and instruments and drops make FIS not the problem it use to be when we first saw it.
Avatar f tn At my six-monthly checkup at my local hospital here in Spain there was a replacement doctor and since he was young I thought he might be willing to hear why I was not taking spiriva and steroids. He confirmed that a person with severe COPD MUST use these medicines. But - I objected - they do not cure, they’re only supposed to make you feel a little better and have nasty adverse effects.
