Avatar f tn His ENT dr wants him to take speech therapy, but his voice comes back for a little while. He has been like this for 5 weeks now. Can anyone help with what maybe going on?
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
667445 tn?1230750538 Yes U should look into speech therapy, but therapy in general...make sure his hearing is ok......there r forms of autisum that can case speech delays...look up aspbergers (sp?).......I hope ur son responds to whichever therapy u choose.
Avatar m tn We didn't start our daughter in speech therapy until 24 months, and she never spoke a single word until then. I had started teaching her sign language around 18 months, on my own. Sign language really helps alleviate the stress of little kids who can't tell you what they want. They can sign it. Some kids love sign language (my daughter did), and then others refuse to learn it. At 24 months her sign language vocabulary was somewhere around 20 words.
Avatar n tn My brother had a stroke in June 07 at the age of 28. Couple of questions with some points of history: - Damage to L side of brain. - Much of R side affected including speech. - Positive note... he does comprehend, has decent hip control on R side which allows him to walk with brace/other aids, and has some R shoulder control. - He is working hard on OT, PT, and speech and has shown some recovery... very slow, but it is there.
480331 tn?1310403529 t babble at all just sat and watched everything and everyone, until the age of 2 and half then her first word was gog, dog at 2 and half, she had not speech therapy as i believed my partner that she had brothers and sisters talking for her, she is now 6 and still quite lazy in her speech and she is also behind in her school work.

Avatar m tn My son was saying 20 words by the age of 18 months and by 2 1/2 had over a hundred words, however they were nearly all labels, he found it very difficult (and still does to a certain extent) to structure sentances, ask questions etc etc. By 3 years old he was quite echolaic, confused me, you, your etc rearely used the word no and never said yes in response to a question.
325405 tn?1262290178 She is really starting to understand questions. I really give thanks to all the speech and developmental therapy she has had 3 times each week for an hour each session. She also knows how to share and turn take. She has problems saying words, and sometimes she has problems recalling a word. But she knows sign language and can respond with sign language if not verbally. My friend's son doesn't respond to questions. Many times not to his own name.

333021 tn?1207759633 ) I started speech therapy for cognitive issues two wks ago . I have all the troubles everyone mentioned above . I also have great difficulty speaking concepts.. or what I'm thinking .. also understanding what has just been said and what I'm looking at (this is the scariest for me) unnerving stuff this is Typing is much easier.. as most of these problems have to do with processing speed. This also affects my movements, walking ,stairs ( mostly going down)...etc.
Avatar n tn Does Brazil provide help with speech and language testing and therapy? at six years of age, he should have been in speech therapy a long time ago. you need to see a "child development specialist" doctor (not a general pediatrician) and have him evaluated for speech and autism. The specialist also should refer you for a genetics doctor to make sure that he does not have some sort of syndrom. Is he talking but with vowels only?
Avatar n tn He also answers no to a lot of questions I ask him. Since he was about a year old he has be in speech and developmental therapy because his doctors says he was delayed. I been having him in therapy for at least 3 years and I took him to different doctors and they still haven't found whats the problem with my son. They say he has some characteristics of autism but they say they have to do more test.
Avatar f tn Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.
Avatar n tn Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I'm sorry. I know these questions are posted a lot, but I figured it would be easier me asking then trying to find another child with her exact symptoms. My daughter just turned 2 on March 25th. I'm really worried about autism. She still doesn't talk. (She says a few things, but they aren't very clear) She flaps her arms, mainly when she's dancing, but occasionally does it when she's upset. She walks on her tip toes sometimes, not often.
Avatar n tn Hello I am worried about my nephew. He is 3 years 8 months Speech: His speech is delayed, doesn't talk much, doesn't have many sentences, a lot of speech is not clear. Speech therapy since 2. He never asks questions. He doesn't say "where are we going?" "what/who is this?" No "why" questions at all much less "how." If he is in the supermarket or stores, he doesn't ask for things.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I'm glad you gave an update from your speech therapy visit. It sounds like you have a good one and hopefully you will find the right combination of food consistency and flavor. I am picking up my afo next week - maybe we can compare notes. Mine is non-hinged, so I doubt i can sleep in it. I am getting it to stabiize my foot while my foot stress fracture heals. Do you happen to have any of those black boots they often give for foot injuries?
Avatar f tn My son is 5 and has been in speech therapy since the age of 3. He has been diagniosed as adhd, bipolar, and devlopment delay disorder. He has never had really good speech, but lately it has gotten to the point that 95% of the time no one (including myself) can understand him. when he is angry or up set, the only way that he communicates is through physical aggression. He will not play with other children, but clear away from them.
Avatar f tn It is good that he is willing to play with his cousin and that he is receiving speech therapy. Have you asked the therapist for his or her thoughts? They may know or have suspicions of a problem, but may not be allowed to bring it up. Here in the US, you would either consult your pediatrician, a developmental pediatrician, or a pediatric neurologist. I strongly urge you to do so as soon as possible, as the earlier your son receives the necessary therapies, the better the prognosis is.
Avatar n tn With the exception of lining things up she seems to play appropriately - feeds a doll, stacks blocks, loves to look at books. She began speech therapy and after 5 sessions the speech therapist said she thinks she has characteristics of autism because she lines things up and seems to have a fixation with the buckle on the chair (she likes to snap it shut herself).
Avatar f tn s on a sliding fee schedule of payment and therefore can even be totally free based on income. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy will all happen if needed either by appointment or even in your home. yes, a speech therapist may travel to your home to help you. You'll be assigned a case manager to track progress of your child. I highly recommend you get involved in this. Once the child turns three, the public school system takes over.
