Avatar m tn My grandson, Jaidyn, has been receiving physical, occupational, and speech therapy since before he turned one. I was pretty sure he had CP because of his difficult birth, but he had appointments with four child developmental specialists on Tuesday August 6th, 2013. These specialists were in the fields of speech, hearing, co-ordination and language. He was diagnosed with Developmental Coordination Disorder and Receptive/Expressive Language Disorder. What does this mean for his future?
Avatar n tn They can evaluate too and come up with a plan that your child needs to thrive. Speech therapy, ot, physical therapy, play therapy----- etc. would be addressed. And then at 3, if he qualifies, he can go to the early intervention preschool provided by your local public school system in which he would receive services. I've thrown a lot at you. I am sure you are scared and upset. I remember when I was realizing something was truly wrong with my beloved boy.
Avatar n tn I also imediately put him on the GFCF diet and we were strict for an entire year because he jumped in ability so dramatically in the first month- fully potty trained and withing 6 months dropped his repeditive behaviors (not hand flapping- he always had his hand in his mout flicking the back of his bottom teeth). We also got him right into speech therapy but not OT and PT because the school said he didn't need it.
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
667445 tn?1230750538 Yes U should look into speech therapy, but therapy in general...make sure his hearing is ok......there r forms of autisum that can case speech delays...look up aspbergers (sp?).......I hope ur son responds to whichever therapy u choose.
Avatar f tn If rehabilitation program is appropriately instituted, most of the patients can regain maximum functions with appropriate therapy, training and support services. For coordinated rehabilitation program a team of a neurologist, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist and a speech-language pathologist, a nutritionist work together to help you in your recovery.
Avatar f tn I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.
Avatar n tn The doctor promoted speech therapy and said there was nothing to worry about. I also took him to a child neurologist for an exam. The neurologist also did not seem to think anything was wrong. He also mentioned speech therapy and time. However the school district evaluated my son with specialists and said that he was possibly autistic. I don't know what to think. I know my son have some problems and is slow but I'm not comfortable with Autism.
Avatar f tn I have been to a psychiatrist and I can not understand how he is billing me. The codes he gives in the invoice are 99214 and 90838. I looked them up and the second codes says 60 mins of psychotherapy. However I never see him for that long. He is always late and today I saw him for probably 30 mins. Has anyone else had this problem? And how can he charge me for more time?
Avatar n tn s just that they utilize their normal speech and language abilities only in certain situations. Usually speech/language therapy per se is not useful for such children, though some forms of group speech/language therapy (focusing on the pragmatics of communication) might be helpful. Likewise, cognitive-behavior therapy, focusing on the anxiety such children usually display in out-of-home settings, can be useful. As you consider intervention, it is important to obtain accurate diagnosis.
Avatar n tn We just had our appointment over at Riley Psychiatry Autism Center and he was diagnosed with PDD-NOS. He will start speech therapy for one hour per week as well as behavioral therapy with a psychologist. If anyone is dealing with a PDD-NOS toddler and has any advice on how to deal with the meltdowns, tantrums, crying...any info. is much appreciated.
Avatar n tn s just a little behind. The doctor promoted speech therapy and said there was nothing to worry about. I also took him to a child neurologist for an exam. The neurologist also did not seem to think anything was wrong. He also mentioned speech therapy and time. However the school district evaluated my son with specialists and said that he was possibly autistic. I don't know what to think. 976897 tn?1379167602 The first Gene Therapy treatment in Europe has finally been given the go ahead. The Drug Glybera I believe uses a viral technique to replace faulty genes. I have to say I am disappointed in that they have picked a condition which only affects one in a million people. There are far more pressing diseases, but I suppose it's a good start anyway. The disease being treated is the inability to break down fats.
Avatar f tn Hello My son has recently started Kindergarten and seems to be more sensitive to sounds He was diagnosed PDD-NOS a year ago, school does not recognize a diagnosis and has him under "developmental delay" category since he is very "borderline" and while some specialists see ASD in him, others do not. Avatar m tn He throws horrible tantrums if things arent done his way, he has a kind of hand flapping, he is in speech therapy for speech delay, and is aggressive towards others when confrontations occur during play. Time out doesnt work and he could care less if we take things away as form of punishment. Should I have him checked out for autism?
Avatar f tn For him, working on his sensory system helps organize his nervous system so he can process better. Anyway, what has your son done in terms of speech therapy? He does not have an autism diagnosis, correct?
Avatar f tn My daughter also had/has problems with speech. Turns out she has autism. Long before we got this diagnosis she was in speech therapy. Therapy helped a lot and I'm glad we started it as soon as we did. Try using PECS (picture exchange cards) to help him communicate. Even if he will grow out of this and it is not autism, he will probably develop some frustration from being unable to communicate well. The cards could be a great tool for him. You could also teach him some sign language.
Avatar f tn I opted out of a diagnosis and spoke to our family doctor who reviewed the paper work from Speech Therapy and Child Guidance and has now refered us to the Childrens Center for Disabilites for further testing appointment is Sept. 9,2011. Does this sound like it could be Autism?
Avatar n tn 3 words at age 2 is way behind in language and she would qualify for speech therapy at the least. There probably is a reason for her screaming and crying, but she can't communicate that reason to you. My daughter has tantrums really bad. I think if she could communicate why, she wouldn't have some of them. Or at least I could remedy what was wrong in some of the instances.
Avatar f tn speech therapy can be effective before children can fully follow directions. My daughter has had years of therapy and has had plenty of trouble following directions. The therapists have ways of getting the child to cooperate by making them feel like they are playing, not working.
620081 tn?1221442530 I was discharged with a diagnoses of a TIA with right sided weakness and the theapists called and said the diagnosis for treatment is a CVA with right sided weakness but all my tests ct, mri, mra, corotid ultrasound etc.. were all negative.
