solumedrol

703392 tn?1228522962 It's quite likely that your daughter will have a reoccurence of optic neuritis, either in the same eye or the other one. If it looks like she's going into a flare, the experts recommend an IV infusion of solumedrol. IV steroids are better at preventing reoccurence of ON over the oral steroid... don't know why, that's just what they say.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. I’ve been dealing with Optic Neuritis in my right eye since 2017, due to vision changes I’ve seen my Optometrist, 2 Opthamologists, a Retina Specialist and a Neuro-Opthamologist. All came to same conclusion that my changes in vision is not a problem with my eyes but that Optic Neuritis was the culprit. However 4 MRIs of my brain and cervical spine have showed no lesions only white matter hyperintensities on my last brain MRI.
Avatar n tn Hello I am a 25 year old female and four weeks ago I was diagnosed with optic neuritis, I was admitted to the hospital for 5 days of IV solumedrol therapy (1000 mg a day). After the treatment my vision mostly came back and the eye pain was completely gone. At the same time I also had a burning arm pain in my right arm with numbness and tingling into my fingers. During my hospital stay I had an MRI of my head, which was normal.
911669 tn?1294099188 In many cases of optic neuritis - inflammation from an attack on the myelin of the otpic nerve - the optic disc becomes pale. This paleness represents loss of nerve fibers within the optic nerve. It is one of the classic signs of optic neuritis. HOWEVER.....(you knew this was coming, didn't you?) in people with confirmed optic neuritis the disc will show changes ONLY 60% OF THE TIME OR LESS. That means that almost two thirds of people with known optic neuritis will NOT show changes.
398059 tn?1447945633 If there is a way to stop a flair-up in it's tracks, I would like to know what it is. Even steroids are no guarantee that it will stop a flair-up. It's usually given for periods of Optic Neuritis, where your very sight is at risk.
Avatar n tn Hi. I have been very confused about symptoms that I have been having on and off over the last eight years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I was very healthy up until age 20 when I was working out at the gym i noticed my vision was becoming blurry. By the next morning I noticed a big bling spot in my left eye. After a couple of opthamologists I finally saw a neuro-opthamologist who wasn't sure whether it was anterior ischemic optic neuropathy or optic neuritis.
Avatar n tn You could have possible had optic neuritis. This then raises the possibility of multiple sclerosis as a possible cause but fortunately the MRI of brain was normal. You should see a neuro-ophthalmologist for evaluation.
1532707 tn?1312155924 If you have a pale optic nerve, has either the ophthalmologist or the neurologist sent you from a VEP? If you have active optic neuritis, IV Solumedrol 1 gm per day for 3-5 days followed by an oral taper dose is the normal therapy. It may resolve the flashes if they are related to optic neuritis.
195469 tn?1388322888 Her first introduction to MS, came with a three day course of Solumedrol and all the bad side effects that come with it; because of Optic Neuritis. All that done and slightly improved, she was told yesterday by her Opthalmologist that she now has O.N. in the other eye. Have any of you ever heard of this happening with both eyes in a matter of weeks, almost three weeks after a full Solu treatment? I am at a loss here. I don't know what to tell my daughter. Gosh I feel dumb...
Avatar n tn I do think you can get support from others with their own experiences with optic neuritis. My vision took probably a year to improve and it has been so gradual. I no longer see double. I do get blurry vision still when I'm overheated or tired. I do have a permament black spot in my field of vision, but it's not big. I will have washed-out color issues in my eye when I'm too warm.
Avatar f tn MRI of the orbits with gadolinium contrast shows enhancement of the affected optic nerve in approximately 95% of cases of optic neuritis, whereas optic nerve enhancement rarely occurs in nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy." http://www.ccjm.org/index.php?
Avatar f tn IV Solumedrol gives you the best chance for quick resolution of vision issues that can be experienced as part of an optic neuritis MS flare. Unfortunately, recovery from optic neuritis can still be very slow and take weeks to months to reach it's full recovery potential. Many people recover to the point they feel they can see as well as before the attack. Others find out each flare takes a piece of their vision that is never fully returned. Every person and every flare is different.
233622 tn?1279334905 “Abnormal right optic nerve demonstrating enhancement without mass lesion along its intra orbital segment. Imaging findings compatible with optic neuritis. Additional note is made of a small nonspecific area of increased signal and associated enhancement in the right posterior frontal sucortical white matter. This may represent a concomitant area of active inflammatory disease such as that may be seen with acute demyelination. “ One neurologist told me the spot was likely related to high bp.
97654 tn?1214348650 Sometimes all of our symptoms from a flare do NOT go away after the flare is over. You already know that Solumedrol is hard on the body. I am like you, it makes me feel like poo for a few days after the infusion. Doing a second infusion is totally up to you. I wish that I could make the decision for you and already know the outcome for your health after it is done. But I don't have that ability to look into the future. I wish I did.

1251333 tn?1445218215 BTW - I do have MS and have had 1 -2 courses of steroids per year for the past 10 years - 3 day infusions of 1000mg solumedrol. Never an episode of Optic Neuritis. Opthamologist said any increase in IO pressure during/after the steroids probably wouldn't have been sufficient to cause the damage I have....
246236 tn?1275478902 I am so glad that you have a doctor that recognizes that the pain you have in one eye could be Optic Neuritis. This is an urgent symptom to treat with Solmedrol. In my experience, the steroids got the ON calmed down quickly. It definitely sounds like you are going through an exacerbation of symptoms. So glad that your doctor is right on top of things. You may find that the seroids will actually help with alot of symptoms that you are currently having.
Avatar f tn I presented with symptoms left side weakness, spasticity, etc. starting Dec 08, then had optic neuritis in my left eye in Feb 09, and optic neuritis in my right eye in Aug 09. With many different symptoms in between. I have 6 brain lesions - 4 periventricular, 1 infratentorial, & the other I'm not sure where. Then I also have 3 T1 hypointense lesions (blackholes), 1 lesion between C4-C6, and another between T9-T10.
Avatar n tn hi. i am a 32 year old female. this is the 3rd time that i have had optic neuritis in 8 months. i also have numbness in legs and terrible joint pain. i stay so tired i can barely move. i have been on solumedrol 4 times but all of my scans are negative. my spinal showed some inflammation but not the bands for ms. my neuro thinks its time to aggressively start treatment before the ON flares up worse next time. The first 2 times it was in my left eye and now is in both?
400099 tn?1282954864 The worst long term health effect that I can see from the amazing list of side-effects is damage to the Optic Nerve. This definitely ***** if you have Optic Neuritis, but I would rather walk than see out of both eyes right now :) I hope you feel better soon.
1176499 tn?1272680055 looks like at least according to the diagnosis on my orders for IV steroids that I have officially joined the MS ranks. I have had virtually no symtpoms except one bout of optic neuritis about 5-6 years ago and now this bout started around thanksgiving..again initially with no symtpoms..but an MRI was ordered whoch now shows tons of lesions..lp and bloodwork negative for other things but...
