solumedrol loading dose

I know steroids can make you susceptible to infections, but has anyone developed a UTI on solumedrol? I had the unmistakable first inklings of one a bit ago. I rushed out for cranberry juice and a blueberry smoothie (blueberries are supposed to have the same effect as cranberries, and it's a good excuse for a fruit smoothie!!) and I'm hoping I can keep it at bay this way, but I guess I'll know in a few hours. These things tend to come on fast for me.

m on the Neurology floor of the hospital I work for ina private room, of course (it pays to work in bed management!). I am awaiting my second 1 gram dose of Solu-Medrol no thanks to my (now former) neuro, but rather to my favorite ER doc whom Icalled ahead to make sure he'd see me and would still be working after my afternoon shift. AFter my fave doc started the Solu-Medrol in EC, he made sure it was oredered on the floor. So, here I wait, getting better and better.

t help, so I had the 3 day mega dose IV solumedrol. I did not do the tapering off pills, because I was having a reaction to the medicine. Since the end of February my ankles are swollen everyday, all day. I asked my neurologist, and she said it is a side effect of the solumedrol. Any one else experience this.....swollen ankles for so long? When will they return to normal? Help please. Thank you.

Searching, I found you and am excited that there is a group that may actually be able to answer some of my questions. The first thing he wants to do is put me on solumedrol for 5 days, I am not currently in a flair. Any reason I should put myself through that if I am not currently having symptoms?

I am currently being treated with 1 gm Solumedrol once/month. I had a three day course last spring and felt AWFUL afterwards. I did eventually feel a bit better overall, so maybe it was worth it. Even the one day dose makes me feel pretty lousy. My sx actually seem to get worse for a few days afterward! I'm not dx, but symptomatically fit the diagnostic criteria (we'll see what the 3T MRI has to say...

Im taking a 5 day course of high dose steroids for my relapse. I get the dose in the morning and notice my pulse rate slowly rises during the day . At rest it is 95 and I can hear my heart pounding while I am trying to sleep which makes me more anxious. My chest feels sore too. I keep generally very fit and healthy apart from RRMS and my heart rate is only this high normally when I am recovering from exercise. My BP is good thankfully.

I am scheduled Monday to do an IV for three days of Solumedrol. Has anyone else done that and if so, what is your opinion. I am alittle nervous about it.

A mild episode of optic neuritis and later double vision is what got me my first MRI and Solumedrol IV. (and FINALLY dx of MS) My neuro explained that even microscopic involvement of the optic nerve can cause pain and vision problems. My vision returned to normal. I would not hesitate for a second to take steroid treatments for vision involvement. My understanding is that this treatment temporarily dampens the immune system, thus greatly slows the inflammation that does damage.

I was to the point of being in my Hoveround unable to stand without help and not being able to get into bed without help. After one dose of LDN I was able to not only stand but to walk holding on to furniture and walls from the bed to the bathroom about a total of 15 steps. I continue to feel the effects of this medicine. I no longer have any pain, my numbness is completely gone and my last MRI shows there are no new plaques on the brain.

From what I have heard, they like to do high dose IV Solumedrol and can only be done in the hospital setting during a MS exacerbation, especially if the MRI shows enhanced lesions. That is my understanding -- I can be wrong. I do not think the medrol dose pack could touch the effects that high doses of Solumedrol IV could do. Your job will not allow you to take care of your health? Are you out of personal time off you can take or sick time? Please let us know!

that is an interesting dosage plan. I have not heard of a one day plan of IV Solumedrol before but it might be just enough to give your system that little tweek it might need. There is a difference between disease progress in the lesions and the physical symptoms we might experience. They don't necessarily go hand in hand -we can have worsening symptoms without more disease.

i have a PICC line as I have been going through a 2 mnth relapse with my MS and I finally gave in and went to the hospital....of course it is solumedrol pumping through it but its way different than when I had an IV port last year...question though; I feel so dizzy and have feelings l want to pass out at times even though I don't pass out. is it because of the PICC with solumedrol that is giving me a different experience?

Had my first dose of IV soluMedrol this a.m. and my tummy is hurting. Anyone else have this problem from it, or is it a fluke. I'll make sure I get some yogurt before my next one and keep pepto handy..

m self-diagnosing and is not willing to make this change in the type of B12 or in the loading dose. I AM NOT going to regress and go back to the way I was feeling. I am a very active person and I am a triathlete. Both my personal, professional and married life are being negatively affected. I am aware that you can order B12 injections (hydroxy and methyl) from Canada, New Zealand, and India; however, I am wary to circumvent the health system and possibly inject myself with heaven knows what!

had a severe allergic reaction to the Tysabri on my second dose and then did another wash out until they put me on Gilenya. I was having symptoms that entire time but I told them I didn't want the steroids because I always felt worse after I did the steroids. Did they ever recommend ACTH for you rather than the IV steroids? Do you get any relief from the steroids at all? Do you have really bad debilitating flares?

I am 9 days out from getting 5,000 mgs. of IV SoluMedrol. I have had more results from a dosepack than this massive amount of steroids. It did make the inside of my mouth & lips swell and my throat felt like I was breathing fire. Gol bless MD Anderson. I wasn't able to eat either. I had my first dose of solumedrol this morning. For a while I've had some weird tremors (with muscle contraction primarily, but also visible when I hold my hands out, to type or something). I know some fine tremor is normal, but these were more than usual. Now they're much more pronounced today. Is this a normal side effect? I don't feel particularly jittery or wired, but I know it can affect people differently.

I just finished my first SoluMedrol IV bag. The lights are so bright! Has anyone else experienced this?

Planning on starting solumedrol i.v. as soon as a bladder infection is cleared up. Has anyone lost hearing during an exacerbation?

with Copaxone but many have said the high dose steroids cause a metal taste. Your mood tag says you are tired from prednisone. If you're taking it now or just recently finished, maybe that's what causing your symptom. Sure hope it's temporary.

Dear Kanta and Iris, I also have 5 chronic tendonitis. ;( My new dr did all kinds of tests which revealed low VitD level even though the test was done right after i finished a 8wk course of 50000 IU PER WK of VitD2 prescribed by my old doctor. My new doc then told me to take VitD3 5000U daily = 35000 PER WK.

I was admitted into the hospital for infusion, 2 days of 325 mg solumedrol and 3 days of 1000 mg solumedrol. I was then discharged on another 4 week oral schedule of prednisone of which I'm on week one, 60 mg/day. This second time, the infusion saved my right ear. Or seems to have, so far. It has done nothing for the headache though. After my first Abomb (1000 mg dose), my headache initially did ease up, but not go away. However, it hasn't eased up at all since that one time.
