I cannot speak for other transplant centers, but the Nebraska Medical Center has a solid organ transplant floor where every room is private. This floor consists of liver and kidney transplant recipients. The heart transplant recipients are on a different floor, and they have a private room, too. Since the person's immunosuppressant levels are significantly lower, due to the medications, private rooms is the standard for transplant recipients at the Nebraska Medical Center.
My husband is 60 years old, 7 years post liver transplant for hep C. Hep C recurred, and the new liver suffered damage--stage 3 or 4. He went through a couple of years of hep c treatment, and has been virus undetectable for 2 years. When his liver failed 7 years ago, his kidneys failed, and never came back. He has been on dialysis since then. He has been in "inactive" status on the kidney list since 2007, and has been undergoing testing to clear him for kidney transplant.

s not clear whether your Father had HCV before his kidney transplant or if he acquired it with his kidney transplant. I pasted an excerpt from a Medscape article which addresses your question but it appears not to definitively answer it. It suggests that acceptable liver histology (decent condition of the liver) pre-transplant bodes well for the liver. But then it seems to question this premise with reference to another study.

It's been 4 years since my second transplant and my kidney works great. I have blood work done very two weeks and see my doctor ever 3-4 months.
I go here soon to see my doctor telling him won't be no where near as hard as telling my mom.
I think it is a small price to pay to avoid a kidney transplant. My weight is stable under this regimen after years of yo yo dieting. If I can do it anyone can!
Hello, I am not so familiar with the treatment for kidney disease, but know if it is bad enough it will involve dialysis probably for the rest of her life. Kidney transplant may or may not be an option, but is very complicated and expensive and would also depend on her overall health.
50 yo male with kidney transplant in March, 2011 from a cadaver, donated kidney.
Tacrolimus 2.5mg BID
Mycophenolate 500mg AM , 250mg PM
No after affects post transplant, no illnesses.
Maintaining a healthy weight and on a vegetarian diet.
All other lab levels are WNL.
Is it safe to apply hair dye or colouring the hair for a kidney transplant patient ? Some Doctor please advice.
