Was thought to have asthma since late teens due to occasional wheezing and shortness of breath. Doc finally sent for PFT, which came back normal. The wheezing seems to get a lot worse when I'm sick, but it's usually manageable.
August 12th I got sick with what the doc told me was a common cold... stuffy nose, wheezing, coughing. I seemed to get a little better after a week, but a few weeks later got worse and went back to the doc to get antibiotics.
Searching, I found you and am excited that there is a group that may actually be able to answer some of my questions. The first thing he wants to do is put me on solumedrol for 5 days, I am not currently in a flair. Any reason I should put myself through that if I am not currently having symptoms?
I know steroids can make you susceptible to infections, but has anyone developed a UTI on solumedrol? I had the unmistakable first inklings of one a bit ago. I rushed out for cranberry juice and a blueberry smoothie (blueberries are supposed to have the same effect as cranberries, and it's a good excuse for a fruit smoothie!!) and I'm hoping I can keep it at bay this way, but I guess I'll know in a few hours. These things tend to come on fast for me.
It was a nice shower...just a little too public for me in that there were only two stalls for women and NO privacy. After 15 days without a shower...a little privacy would have been nice.
I am so glad that the Solumedrol is over and you have had positive results! I can't believe you lost that much weight...I ballooned and I still haven't lost it! Are you going to be on a weaning Prednisone now as well?
How long can it take for solumedrol to take effect?
I had a 4 day Solumedrol drip and then step down pack in February and it made me worse. All my muscles tightened up and I have more pain than I did before. Call it a major fibromyalgia attack. Even now in May, I am still as stiff and woozy as i was after the glucocorticoid therapy. Sigh. Did nothing for me that I can tell.
I did sweat a lot during the treatment so maybe i lost a few toxins?
I asked my neurologist, and she said it is a side effect of the solumedrol. Any one else experience this.....swollen ankles for so long? When will they return to normal? Help please.

s office and was told that the Solumedrol is in your system for about 10 days but my symptoms would be noted and related to t he neuro...never heard back from them of course. The pain in my head has returned intermittently but usually only lasts a day at a time...the final IV infusion did nothing to rectify the pain...it was just time as usual.
SHe was better for about 4 mnths after that and then yes im saying fart because its what happened she farted blood scared to death i took her to the 24/7 ER an hr away where I paid 500 bucks for test told the vet then that she was wheezing and her fur was disappearing. Well his diagnosis was constipation. So I waited a week and felt she was not getting better took her for a second opinion found out her fur was disappearing due to a flea allergy I guess she is highly allergic lucky her and me.
First diagnosed with Bronchitis. Then Pneumonia. Then back to Bronchitis. The wheezing continued. Then sent to a hospital and diagnosed with Asthma. Prescribed many meds over the past year. For Asthma I was on Seretide 50/250 That too didn't work. I then went to another hospital and given a Spirometer test. It was perfect. I do not have Asthma.
My doctor put me back on Seretide again claiming I hadn't been taking it correctly. Hence why still wheezing. He then sends me for a CT scan.

Wait until your CT scans come back, and do everything the doctor says short of surgery. The Flip-Turn Sinus Flush, for an infection that does not include physical blockage in the sinuses, will wash out almost all infections.
I just got out of the hospital with pneumonia and back for an er visit with the flu after taking flu shots, now I'm wheezing heavily now. Before i would wheeze just a little and used a humidfier and it ceased. now I smell as thugh I have been smoking and dont, I smell it but my wife don't. I have been having a deep cough with wheezing and greenish thick phlegm for 6 months now. The phelgm is coming from my lungs and is often like strings. When I breath it makes a whistling and rattling sound. I initially had a bad cold and then the cough just never went away. I have taken 3 courses of AB's, had a normal chest x ray in Jan and the oxygen levels are normal. I had a basic breathing test done and that was normal.
