148588 tn?1465778809 The key to the UBS model and its interest is not in the projections of falling technology costs , but in the combination of three technologies - solar panels, batteries and electric cars - which behave in a symbiotic way, each providing a boost to the economic opportunity created by the other. Batteries provide the solution to the problem of solar intermittency; inexpensive solar power lowers the cost of charging an electric car.
1301089 tn?1290666571 And there are questions about whether the large lithium ion batteries needed for electric cars are durable, safe and affordable enough for widespread use. —— Associated Press writers Lauran Neergaard, Joan Lowy and Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar in Washington and Tom Krisher in Detroit contributed to this report. http://www.newsmax.
535822 tn?1443976780 til the costs drop down to a price most people can afford. I mean, we all know that electric cars, hybrid cars, solar and wind power are all reasonable efforts to try for alternative energy sources, but the start up costs make such things out of reach for the average person. And, I've actually heard some down sides to solar panels, in that they can actually burn the soil in nearby areas, so I'm not convinced that solar belongs everywhere.
148588 tn?1465778809 With rates climbing on average 4 percent a year, this solar electric system will pay for itself in only 4 years, and generate free electricity for the next 25." Just a few years ago, the payback period in New York was nearly 10 years. "This represents a tremendous return on investment, well over 20 percent," Engelbrecht said. Also, he noted, the New York State Loan Program has just been extended. It allows people to go solar without any out-of-pocket costs.

Each and every time I post on my Facebook page or tweet about my crusade for a clean energy future, I see them. There are always a few of you, asking why we should care about the temperature rising, or questioning the science of climate change. I want you to know that I hear you. Even those of you who say renewable energy is a conspiracy.
Avatar f tn Mrsgreeneyes27,solar panels are a really great investment. When my hubby and I get our next house we want solar panels. Right now we have a townhouse so we can't get them but with all my Hubby's computer stuff running the house gets warm.

And we are poised to generate countless new jobs, good-paying, middle-class jobs, right here in the United States of America." In a blog posting, Energy Department spokesman Dan Leistikow said Solyndra was a once promising company that had increased sales revenue by 2,000 percent in the past three years.
148588 tn?1465778809 Government regulators have recently focused on the physical security of the grid, following a possible terrorist attack last year on a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. substation in San Jose. Unknown assailants striking at night cut telephone lines to the Metcalf substation, then knocked out 17 transformers with precise gunfire before fleeing. But cyberattacks are gaining more attention.
148588 tn?1465778809 I don't know what to think of this situation. I read something not too long ago (it may have been here on CE) about alternative energy production. One of the things that was strongly noted was the amount of "toxic sludge" and "other toxic waste" that is left in the aftermath of solar panel production.
163305 tn?1333668571 Your vulgarities show a distinct lack of vocabulary, Brice. I would appreciate you keeping it clean in the forum and not using the $hit'word. Say 'crap' instead, please. One more time, and I'm reporting you. *** On topic, this solar-powered toilet is the silliest thing I've ever heard of. What's next. solar-powered cars? Solar-powered houses? Setting up a myriad of solar-panels in the middle of the desert and trying to harness the power of the sun to power cities?
148588 tn?1465778809 Wind turbines and solar panels accounted for more than two-thirds of all new electric generation capacity added to the nation’s grid in 2015, according to a recent analysis by the U.S. Department of Energy. The remaining third was largely new power plants fueled by natural gas, which has become cheap and plentiful as a result of hydraulic fracturing. It was the second straight year U.S. investment in renewable energy projects has outpaced that of fossil fuels.
Avatar f tn I did not stare at the sun AT ALL, but there was a lot of sunlight reflecting from the cars around me. Is this scenario a qualifier for solar retinopathy? I fear that because my pupils were dilated, more reflected light than usual could have entered my eyes. This was 4 days ago. Im freaking out. Please help me. Please.
148588 tn?1465778809 t really know a lot but I am aware that man made products like the solar panels and petroleum based products are a problem. I do not yet know the answer to that but I imagine it is the lesser of evils. Less toxic to the environment than say fracking and tar sands. Nevertheless it is a good point and hopefully it is a concern that is being addressed. About the "pork" if that is the case, I agree with you but it seems like Washington runs by a different game.
148588 tn?1465778809 I dunno. I think the dogs and I are just old and out of shape, but we all seem to be panting (a sign the body is trying to rid itself of excess CO2) a lot more lately. http://motherboard.vice.com/blog/a-400-ppm-world "It already ranks as one of the grimmest measurements ever taken. Climate scientists found that for the first time in approximately three million years, the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has reached 400 parts per million.

Avatar m tn Hey. I have had these feelings, the electric shock feeling, from neck down including arms) for few months now. I'm 20 and I'm college student. The college was stressful sometimes but that's not the thing when those shocks hit me. They usually begin when I'm hot, like in hot water, hugging someone with naked skin, having tons of clothes on myself etc. It usually lasts as long as it's warm = stops when I get refreshed by some cold air or sum.
649848 tn?1534633700 30PM 8476213324 Comments584 South Carolina may soon lead the way into the future with electronic license plates for cars and trucks. Using so-called electronic paper, technology similar to what is seen on digital readers like the Amazon Kindle, these new license plates would be capable of dynamically changing from normal numbers and letters to a word like SUSPENDED, UNINSURED or STOLEN.
148588 tn?1465778809 ll let you have a barrel or two to make me some plastic. Certainly not an all-or-nothing, one-dimensional thinker. And all the tech for solar concentrating has been around for a hundred years, except for the deep charge battery for that electric car. Can't deny Americans the right to turn up their noses at public transportation. Solar concentrating only takes the ability to bend shiny metal into a parabola, a steam turbine.
