148588 tn?1465778809 That might seem distant at the moment, when nearly 40 percent of the nation’s electricity is still generated by coal, and when less than 1 percent of power customers have solar arrays. (It is slightly higher in California and Hawaii.) But given new regulations on power-plant emissions of mercury and other pollutants, and the urgent need to reduce global warming emissions, the future clearly lies with renewable energy.
148588 tn?1465778809 Driven by the availability of cheaper and more efficient energy storage and inexpensive solar power, electric vehicles will begin to attain cost parity with cars driven by internal combustion engines. According to UBS, in a market with high road fuel prices, such as Germany, the total cost of ownership of an electric vehicle such as the Tesla S is already comparable with a gasoline-powered car, such as the Audi A7.
Avatar f tn Yes I'm always shocking my kids and myself why is that
148588 tn?1465778809 s the case, it provides an opportunity for crowdsourced solar projects (using services like Mosaic and Divvy) and community solar projects to drive the initiative of shared solar energy. 9.
Avatar f tn Mrsgreeneyes27,solar panels are a really great investment. When my hubby and I get our next house we want solar panels. Right now we have a townhouse so we can't get them but with all my Hubby's computer stuff running the house gets warm.
1301089 tn?1290666571 And there are questions about whether the large lithium ion batteries needed for electric cars are durable, safe and affordable enough for widespread use. —— Associated Press writers Lauran Neergaard, Joan Lowy and Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar in Washington and Tom Krisher in Detroit contributed to this report. http://www.newsmax.
148588 tn?1465778809 Government regulators have recently focused on the physical security of the grid, following a possible terrorist attack last year on a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. substation in San Jose. Unknown assailants striking at night cut telephone lines to the Metcalf substation, then knocked out 17 transformers with precise gunfire before fleeing. But cyberattacks are gaining more attention.
535822 tn?1443976780 til the costs drop down to a price most people can afford. I mean, we all know that electric cars, hybrid cars, solar and wind power are all reasonable efforts to try for alternative energy sources, but the start up costs make such things out of reach for the average person. And, I've actually heard some down sides to solar panels, in that they can actually burn the soil in nearby areas, so I'm not convinced that solar belongs everywhere.
148588 tn?1465778809 Wind turbines and solar panels accounted for more than two-thirds of all new electric generation capacity added to the nation’s grid in 2015, according to a recent analysis by the U.S. Department of Energy. The remaining third was largely new power plants fueled by natural gas, which has become cheap and plentiful as a result of hydraulic fracturing. It was the second straight year U.S. investment in renewable energy projects has outpaced that of fossil fuels.
148588 tn?1465778809 t really know a lot but I am aware that man made products like the solar panels and petroleum based products are a problem. I do not yet know the answer to that but I imagine it is the lesser of evils. Less toxic to the environment than say fracking and tar sands. Nevertheless it is a good point and hopefully it is a concern that is being addressed. About the "pork" if that is the case, I agree with you but it seems like Washington runs by a different game.
314833 tn?1263259499 1. Hawaii, but on one of the less populated islands....I just want to walk and explore and soak up some very valuable sunshine....I could turn into a regular solar collector, I swear. 2. Steaks...mmmm...some taters too. 3. I worry about a lot of things...and the middle of the night is when it's going to hit me... I have woken up thinking about upcoming conversations with drs. I have had thoughts about work....weather...Been thru a tornado once...can't stand night time thunderstorms.
Avatar f tn House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner could restore funding to the electric-car program to win Democratic support, but that could prompt further conservative defections and potentially undermine his position as the top Republican. The speaker could try to win back conservative support through further spending cuts, but that would prompt a standoff with the Democratic-controlled Senate and increase the probability of a government shutdown.
148588 tn?1465778809 ll let you have a barrel or two to make me some plastic. Certainly not an all-or-nothing, one-dimensional thinker. And all the tech for solar concentrating has been around for a hundred years, except for the deep charge battery for that electric car. Can't deny Americans the right to turn up their noses at public transportation. Solar concentrating only takes the ability to bend shiny metal into a parabola, a steam turbine.
163305 tn?1333668571 And I meant that in the nicest possible way;-) It's supposed to be gorgeous here in Houston. Teko... you should come here and watch it with me. I'll even make up my spare room for you to stay in and I'll put you up for the night. We can drive down to Galveston and sit on the beach and watch it together, all the while, arguing politics and at each other's throats. Doesn't that sound like fun?!?
206807 tn?1331936184 The Headline is decieving. Bush and Obama has to share the Blame on this one. Does anyone follow up on these companies or do we just give them a half a Billion dollars and a Pat on the Back? WASHINGTON (AP) - A California solar-panel manufacturer once touted by President Barack Obama as a beneficiary of his administration's economic policies - as well as a half-billion-dollar federal loan - is laying off 1,100 workers and filing for bankruptcy. Avatar f tn By that I mean, If I was taking my pill normally at 9pm my time zone and it was 5 hours earlier in Hawaii, I took it at 4pm in Hawaii. Same difference in Europe. I took it as soon as I woke up (which ended up being an hour or 2 later than at home but that's not that big of a deal when you're on a combined pill, which I was). Does that make sense?
Avatar n tn At this point, my doctor suspects that I might have a solar allergy and he and prescribed me Plaquenil (200mg BID). I've been taking it for 5 days now and so far there have been no results. I agree that a solar allergy seems possible, but I have a few questions about this: 1) How long should I take this medicine before I might expect to see some results? 2) If I don't respond to this Plaquenil, does that mean this is not a solar allergy?
Avatar m tn Because LLMDs are too often harrassed by local medical boards, we don't post their names in public here. If you go to ILADS [dot] org to their referral function, or go to some of the links on the right side of the page at itsaboutlyme [dot] org, or if you just google "LLMD hawaii" you will likely find a bunch of hits. The term "a good neurologist" is a loaded issue.
179856 tn?1333547362 Timing is everything. And for the Solar Dynamics Observatory, launched into orbit this past February, the timing couldn't have been better. The SDO helps scientists study solar storms, and for a long couple of years prior to the launch, those storms were few and far between. Our nearby star was in a deep sleep, largely devoid of the sunspots, flares and prominences that indicate heightened magnetic activity.
4437866 tn?1388119624 OK so this winter weather is so cold lol. And I'm freezing. My heater in there house doesn't work at the moment and they guy who fixes it won't be here til Monday morning ( I can't wait!). I have space heaters going in my room and an Amish fireplace in my sons room. So the house isn't a total freezer but I just can't get warmed up. I'm wearing 3 pairs of socks a pair of leggings and stolen sweat pants of my dads and a hoodie with along sleeve under...
