Common Questions and Answers about Sleep problems aspergers

sleep

Avatar f tn I have come to the conclusion that his sleep problems are not really sleep problems, but separation anxiety. Although he does have some sleep problems outside of the anxiety, the melatonin was addressing this and he was sleeping well while in the bed with me. He has ALWAYS had extreme separation anxiety -- even before I got married and started putting him in his own bed.
Avatar n tn From the time he was three years old he has had behavior problems. I now think they were related to anxiety and aspergers. I have observed at our home if I break his routine or he is annoyed by someone else (usually his step sister), he becomes very agitiated and 'has a melt down'. I suspect that it is aspergers but his step mom keeps telling me it just years years of bad behavior and being allowed to act this way.
Avatar f tn BTW stimulant meds like Adderall can cause increased anxiety, irrritability/aggression and sleep problems. Seek out a Clinical psychologist who specialises in Aspergers, my experience with meds is negative and many other aspergers people state the same. Our disorder is neurological, not mental health. We can develop mental health disorder from continuous social rejection and trying to understand this world.
Avatar n tn t have Aspergers Syndrome. I have no problems with understanding emotional/social cues. My mother told me as a baby...when I was doing something wrong, she would give me a look and I would stop dead in my tracks. My problem was that I was always hypersensitive, highly emotional .....I was very shy too.....so that affected poor social interaction........besides having speech problems and coordination problems and children calling me retard....well that took away my self esteem.
Avatar n tn Aspergers and other behavioural problems such as adhd and ocd are genetic so it is very likely that you can have two children with them. It is important for you and your children that you get them assesed as then you can find out what the problem is and how to help your children. I read one of your earlier posts about your three year old dont worry many people with aspergers and similar disorders live relatively normal lives i know because my husband has it and ocd.
665125 tn?1273023924 They tend to have language processing problems, Semantic Pragmatic Speech Disorder, Literal interpretation of language etc. Those with Aspergers tend (but not always), to do better ie average to above average academically. They also tend to have obsessions and interests. Those with autism tend to have much greater difficulty with language and tend not to develop language at the usual age. They may not be verbal at all or may be delayed or have disordered speech.

Avatar m tn Hi (sorry in advance for the long post), I am a twenty year old male in Las Vegas and have been struggling with mental health problems for my whole life, but only realizing my thoughts were abnormal for the past 2 ½ years. I was first diagnosed as a child with anxiety but we thought nothing of it.
Avatar n tn He is non-verbal and is a large boy for his age of 9 years and is entering puberty. The medicine does apparently help him sleep, but that is the only benefit we are now seeing. Thank you for your reply. This discussion is related to controlling violence in my 5 yr adhd aspergers son.
Avatar n tn Recently Aspergers was mentioned to me, A close family relative said that my son shows the same symptoms that her friends son has. I did some more research and found that add, adhd, aspergers ocd and some others are very similar and are hard to determine which is the correct diagnoses. My biggest problem is that some require medicines that can be very detrimental to the body. I have already had to switch my sons medication 3 times and up the dosage several more.
Avatar n tn There is high functioning autism (aspergers is an example) in which children are cognitively quite bright and they are often articulate (however, aspergers have issues with holding conversations and usually only want to talk about preferred topics). They almost always have social skills deficits including eye contact, issues with empathy, abilty to relate to other kids their age (you often hear----- he/she really gets along with adults), etc.
1269162 tn?1270781296 My psycho-ed test said I have S-NVLD and P-NVLD (Social Nonverbal Learning Disorder and Perceptual Nonverbal Learning Disorder) and a learning disability in math. It said that I have problems reading facial expressions... Sometimes I do. Only when the faces are moving, and I get surprised, scared, and worried mixed up, sad, mad, and disgusted mixed up and I can't tell when people are fake smiling or really happy.
Business woman1 She is 13 and has a very difficult time going to sleep. Most nights, the entire family is up when she is up. This makes for a bad situation when all of us have to go to work and we already get up at 4 am in the morning. We as a family are looking for the most natural meds possible to give to the autistic 13 year old. Although we would rather not, sometimes she will bit, scratch herself and others including all of us in the family as well as become aggressive and have major meltdowns.
Avatar f tn She hides most of the time. She loves art and is very well at it. A friend said she could have Aspergers but I had never heard of it. I know as her mother something isn't right.
Avatar m tn Hi I am new to this board but wondered if anyone can help. My son is just 7 and was diagnosed with just ADHD a few months ago. We have just done a trial of Equasym xl. The 20mg was definately too strong as it made him extremely emotional and all over the place. On the 10mg emotionally he was ok, but he was having problems getting to sleep - usually he's asleep by 8.15pm, but on the days of the medication it was nearer 10pm.
Avatar n tn I have come to realise that my partner of 3 years may have Aspergers syndrome. I don't know where to go from here. He has every symptom I have read about. For example, I have talked to him about my feelings at length, and the next day its as if the conversation never took place?? I thought I was losing my mind until I dicovered what his problem is. Do I stay in this relationship? What are my options?
499626 tn?1216030227 can anyone help my daughtr is in the middle of been diagnosed with aspergers but they are saying she is really tricky as she doesnt have all the signs why is this and why does it take so long to diagnos
Avatar f tn Having Aspergers can be different in many ways, Aspergers is when your child is having emotional problems maybe even getting embarrassed, shy, difficult education maybe even speech problems. ADHD and Aspergers can mainly be different things but can look or act the same way.
Avatar n tn However since he began preschool and now hes in first grade his teachers have constantly noted many problems. There has been confrence after confrence. He will not put his work on paper, hates doing work, his teachers have noted he often annoys other children, won't eat, seems lonely, has trouble making friends, and is sometimes a behavior problem. Along with selective hearing, and oftem seems confused. I've had his hearing checked his eyes checked.
Avatar m tn My mom is going to school to be a nurse and my dad, step mom, and step dad are all very skeptical people and usually doubt anything out of the norm so when all four got together, which by the way is very rare, they started trying to talk to me about how they all strongly believe that I have aspergers I became curious. So my questions are, how do you test for aspergers, through a catscan or therapy or what? Is the only treatment medication? Does it compromise brain develepment?
Avatar f tn He has significant food aversions and is currently being seen by an OT for this. His neurologist and OT suspect he has aspergers but his dr does not recommend testing unless he needs EC services in school. He is very rigid and regimented. He is awkward socially and will incessantly talk about video games and World war 2. He has a vast knowledge of these subjects. I have to tell him not to talk about these subjects to other unless they express an interest.
Avatar m tn Do you ever feel a random burst of energy occasionally, then minutes later have a random heaviness in the body, followed by disorientation, and feelings of apathy and tiredness? And will you then feel miserable, with lack of focus and drive?
Avatar m tn Hi, I've had a visual disturbance for over 3 months and I suspect that it may be a kind of visual migraine as the effects I'm having seem to be the closest match to that. I've had several eye exams from a mixture of opticians, GPs and Eye specialists and they all said that they couldn't find anything wrong with my eyes. Thuogh I'm confused by this as migraines don't normally last for months.
