985832 tn?1249126599 Hello I am new here . Hi everyone. My question is what can I do about sleep problems? I never sleep through the night. I get up several times during the night and I have a hard time relaxing even when I can't keep my eyes open. Just when I laydown to go to sleep its like a light switch comes on and I am wide awake again. It really drags me down during the day. I do walk everyday and I take melatonin at night but even though it makes me really sleepy I never stay asleep.
Avatar f tn Thyroid issues can mimick bipolar symptoms that is why they always say to get it checked out if you are having problems. If this is the first time you have ever had any problems with depression or mood I would get a second opinion. Usually people with bipolar have a history of mood episodes before being diagnosed. Just taking prozac when they say you are bipolar is bad medicine. SSRI's can make bipolar worse, especially if that is all you are being given.
Avatar f tn Hi, I want to comment on this since I have been on a slew of meds for my bipolar for years and eventually just had to make my own choice. First off, there is no great science out there that is going to magically make you feel all better. Seroquel is one of those drugs that when you take it, expect to pass out within 1 hour. There is no option on that drug but to pass out. I am on lamictal and have been for 4 years and have had no side effect from it but everyone is different.
Avatar f tn http://www.webmd.com/bipolar-disorder/guide/bipolar-disorder-and-sleep-problems And you can google something like "sleep and bipolar disorder" for even more help. One of the primary, most important, goals of treatment is giving patients *regular,* restful sleep. Can you talk with your doc about this?
Avatar f tn I think i might be bipolar . my manic phases last only a few hours. But my depression lasts days. I have bad mood swings. My sleep schedule ***** cause im sleeping too much or not enough. I always feel tired. My doctor always puts me on anti depressant. Maybe its making me worse.
Avatar f tn Hi Michelle...I'm bipolar. I take lamictal, zoloft for the bipolar. Ambien as needed for sleep. My mania seems to come at night the most and sleep is an issue. I was prescribed xanax for the mania as well. I'm very hyper. In the beginning, I was told no too. But when my new doctor saw how hyper I was first hand, he didn't have any problems filling the prescription. I also suffer from anxiety attacks. Thus, I was having one in his presence.

Avatar f tn I am 21 years old, I was diagnosed with rapid cycling bipolar at about 14. Once I was diagnosed and I knew I wasn't just crazy I seemed to have a handle on things, I got married at 18 years old and we started ttc a few months later. I got pregnant the first month and my bipolar went off the deep in. I couldn't control my actions, my words, nothing... I ended up having a miscarriage. I seemed to level out and get back on track.
Avatar f tn My question is, which is worse, the side effects of the drugs your doctor placed you on or the lack of sleep from stopping them? The only time I was med free was induced by my md. It was dt's no sleep and barely able to get through each second. I won't go there again..oh and the hospital bill and the then being labelled bp2. Nope, I will stay with a sane psych and knowledgable of who I am, what meds I require.
Avatar f tn Have you had a recent sleep study? While you are not medicated is a good time to see what's going on while you sleep in case your sleep quality is at issue. There are other things to look at besides narcolepsy, and a sleep study is a good place to start.
Avatar m tn For as far as i remember i was always worried about my social life, about the friends i have, and social problems, who talked to me in a bad way, how to fix things?. It was bad when i was young, however in 2003 i traveled to camp alone and it good quiet better afterwards, i became more confident, however i still used to think about my social problems and some anxiety times.
899491 tn?1243773627 I read somewhere that you should adjust your sleep each night by an hour or so until you reach near to the new sleep zone that you are entering, this way there is not a major shift in sleep pattern when arriving. So they will need to work out in advance when they will need to start so you get close. ie 6 hour change in time would need to start 6 to 7 days before, longer would be better ie over a fortnight have every two nights adjustment. This is just based on what I have read anyway.
Avatar f tn Seroquel is one of the 'atypical antipsychotics' that came out about ten years ago. They were first used for serious mental illness like schizophrenia, and then for bipolar disorder, and then for the thing we 'call' bipolar in children, that really isn't bipolar disorder.
Avatar m tn hi can anyone help me please,my 4 year old daughter has adhd and odd which she is currently bein medicated for with ritalin, and melatonin for the sleep but the sleep patterns are gettng worse,i havent had a nights sleep in months because she suffers terrible nightmares, now they have been going on since before she was diagnosed with the adhd but there really starting to afect us,im a single parent and exhausted from her during the day all i need is sleep but she cant sleep, shes afraid to sleep a
Avatar f tn I also knew that my son was so hyper he was hard to get to sleep at night and refused to take naps at daycare so I looked up sleep disorders and sleep deficit and the symptoms it could cause. Sleep deficit can trigger bipolar disorder. (Sleep disorders can be caused by tonsils and adenoids) Specifically a lack of sleep will put a child in a manic state and he will stay there.
15242955 tn?1534438461 My friend isn't doing that well these days. He's recovering from a nasty fall that injured his left rotator cuff. Tripped over his laundry basket. Unrelated his primary doc told him his Topamax is causing memory problems. He's susceptible to migraine headaches. His bipolar is doing okay. Can't tell how much is because of the Clozapine. Thanks for your concern specialmom, May it be a blessed day for you.
Avatar f tn My husband suffers from bipolar & adhd. I wake up at night & he is masterbating in his sleep. If I wake him up and tell him this, he says that I am lying. My husband weighs 300 pounds & trust me when I tell you, the mattress moves! We haven't had sex in over a month. We tried this morning (even though I knew that he had been masterbating in his sleep for 1 & 1/2 hours), we no success. He just swears that I am lying. But I am not stupid!
469856 tn?1207837626 I have been diagnosed with bipolar 1 and I was wondering if anyone else has problems cleaning. I look at the mess and my mind screams to go clean it, but it's like my body can't do it. I have a reprieve about twice a month and am able to get something done but that's it. Does this have anything to do with bipolar or is it something else entirely?
1305767 tn?1361192676 Was your doctor suggesting you try it to help with anxiety? Personally, I have not heard of it being used for that as there are much more effective medications out there for anxiety. Also Seroquel can actually cause anxiety and panic attacks! I hope that your doctor asked you many more questions to determine if you had bipolar disorder than just about racing thoughts. Bipolar disorder cannot and should not be diagnosed only on the basis of that.
Avatar n tn Thanks so much for the info,The visit went okay today,he kept her of the vyvanse but upped the dose to 30mg,and he's trying her on cymbalta for bipolar he said it will also help her beable to sleep at night..I'm deff gonna keep in contact and let you guys know how things progress with her i got a 2 week trial.
5352728 tn?1383335295 Hi, I'm new to this site. I have Bipolar II disorder. Symptoms didn't come about till my early 20's. I ended up seeing a psychiatrist when my sleep and concentration levels became practically nonexistent. I was later diagnosed with Bipolar II. Just wanted to say hi.
1229860 tn?1267537808 You may have some tough decisions ahead. Many times people with bipolar have other problems at the same time. For example, I have bipolar, boarderline personality disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, schizoid personality type, and dysthemia (sp?) which is a constant low laying depression. So, your husband may be dealing with a lot more than he realizes. It is best to get him into treatment and work together it will be best for both you. Take care!
505321 tn?1212078640 Hi everyone. I am new to the bipolar section, however I do post on the Addiction part of this site. I have an addiction to pain meds and I am currently trying to "kick" the habit. I have over the years wondered if I could possibly have bipolar. I will tell you all a bit about myself and then maybe you can give me some feed back on what you think.
