Common Questions and Answers about Skelaxin for migraines

skelaxin

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a transfer migraine last August. It started on Aug 1st and hasn't left me since. It's been an agonizing 6 months. It's called transfer migraine because it moves all over my head. I've never had one of those common migraines where the light bothers me or I get nauseated or see auras, etc. My migraines have been "light" headaches that stay with me for a few days: from 3 to five days at the most.
Avatar f tn not habit forming but if u take it every night u get kinda used to it...my brother takes it for migraines and i have it prescribed for back pain...also an AD in higher doses...hang in there...
1415174 tn?1453243103 I have been taking 900 mg/day Neurontin for a back injury for the last 6 months. I was on other meds, Celebrex, Skelaxin and am off of all except Neurontin. I have tapered the Neurontin to 500mg/day. This question is related to side effects that may be due to Neurontin or maybe my migraines. When I was on a higher dose of Neurontin I was getting almost daily visual disturbances in both eyes that looked like what my migraine auras look like but those are in one eye and are followed by a headache.
Avatar m tn Hi about a year ago a had an injury at work that caused 2 herniated disks. I did the physical therapy for a while than realized I can do most of the pt stuff at home or at the gym. I am prescribed Celebrex and skelaxin. I have a question about the skelaxin. Well my job is physically demanding I work in a hospital I do patient care I "boost" patients, transport patients, help very unsteady patients get out of bed and walk. So quite often I need to take my skelaxin.
Avatar n tn I have had some kind of cold/flu, sinusitis (all in one) for about three weeks. Finally I went to the doctor she prescribes antibiotics, anticough medicine etc. I also developed somehow a muscle spams around my neck aparently due to excesive coughing. The pain became the worst ever to the point of tears. The doctor prescribed skelaxin 800mg, it didn't help, then I added 400mg Advil.. The pain somehow got better, but still there. So Went for Motrin 800mg with Skelaxin, didn't help.
Avatar f tn I have been getting an aura in both eyes (like a migraine aura with no headache that lasts about 15minutes to a half hour) since I was told to increase my neurontin, daily, but I was also put on Celebrex and Skelaxin at the same time. I've been off of Skelaxin since March 2010. I went off of Celebrex first as I read an article that was in a New Zealand journal of medicine that said it causes rare (9/300 people) visual disturbance.
Avatar f tn But the fibromyaliga diagnosis is based on no other medical explanation for all over body pain. Which I also have, in addition to daily migraines and a ton of other medical problems--some may be related to the fibromyalgia. I think that you definately need to see a doctor about your head pain. Take care and good luck.

Avatar m tn I have had a headache for now 31 days in a row without any real relief. It started out (I think) with a stiff neck- Couldn't touch chin to chest) and the same day I started with a headache. They almost follow a pattern everyday, I wake up with it, it gets better after I'm up for awhile and almost gone into afternoon, but around 4 pm comes back and keeps going for the rest of the night (almost worse when I lay down).
Avatar f tn For about six weeks now I have had a constant headache. I have had about a seven year history with what I thought were migraines. Previously, I would get a 'migraine' about 1-2 times/month and I would take an Imitrex and try and sleep it off. Over winter break, I got a headache and it stuck with me ever since. Here is a bit of history...

Avatar f tn Hi and sorry about your neck/back injury. Flexeril does work a lot better. I was on it for 9 months. It wasn't too hard to get off of. Skelaxin didn't work as well for me either but did work some as I felt it after I got of of it. For short term I would take Flexeril at night (5mg). Apparently Skelaxin doesn't work for you.Flexeril only works for 3 weeks then it is a sleeping pill really. I would go on an off as needed.
Avatar m tn My doc just gave me Skelaxin for my back pain and said it might help. I have been trying to cut back taking hydro and I don't want to take anything that is going to make me woosey. I started into therapy last week and it is really making my back hurt. The nurosurgeon I saw said I have from L-1 to S-1 messed up and he does not think surgery would help any. So he just said take the hydro because your not taking that many (only 3 a day 7.
Avatar f tn s like they are on fire hurting. stiff neck and all. was taking the tram for degenerative disk disease in the neck so i was wondering, is this a symptom of w/d? or is this the pain that i am to endure after being clean? this *****.
Avatar f tn I found that warm showers and a heating pad helped a lot. I also would rotate my pain meds-take 1000mg of Tylenol and then 2-3 hours later take ibuprofen or naproxen sodium...take Tylenol again 6 hours after the first dose... Effexor XR helped my sleep (and honeslty good sleep helps more than ANYTHING) and I had more energy (heh, I could get out of bed most days LOL). My pain was caused mostly by horrible muscle spasms and Skelaxin helped with that.
Avatar m tn Take the pills and try the therapy and message for awhile and then let us know how your doing. I had got down to 1 1/2 a day through my weening process but my back was hurting the whole time. I think I am still going to try to keep cutting back and see if I can quit when I can take a few days off work. Just thought I would let ya'll know where I am and how disappointed I am that the dr said he could not fix it for me.
450140 tn?1317947304 Today, my neuro suggested i try SKELAXIN (muscle relaxer) for the spasams I am experiencing. I will start those tomorrow. It says take 3x a day, every 8 hours. And if need be a 4th one can be taken. Does this sound right ........every 8 hours?? Please tell me what you think. I pray that everyone is doing ok. This limboland is really taking its toll on me and my family. Have not worked since Jan. that is putting a strain on us finacially. Not to mention, all the worry about my health.
Avatar m tn 1:) the pain/nerve issues that I have, weather from the injury etc. 2:) My OCD nature, and anxiety are not helping. I have always been llike this, just in this case it is not helping me. I am trying the best I can to step back and take it easy but then the pain kicks in and down the crap shoot I go. He also thinks that it will help restore my balance, then ween off of it. I hate hate hate drugs. Especially after the research I did early on with Cymbalta...! ugh.
Avatar f tn Fiorecet, Imitrex, topomax, effexor, lortab, skelaxin, and others. We have been the migrane route, the cluster route, and the tension route. I have had a CT that came back normal, Blood work to rule out infection, hormonal causes, pregnancy, thiroid issues, and other general causes. I am having issues functioning at my job and in my life. These headaches are terrible and very frustrating. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn My dad was taking Skelaxin and when he would take it he would be a little messed up. My dad quickly stopped taking it and they put him on Effexor which caused some side effects such as dizziness, insomnia, and upper respiratory problems. Never taken them personally, but that is what I have heard. I would immagine those would also be addictive also, maybe not as bad, but still dependence would set in. GOOD LUCK ...
1745492 tn?1320198340 I have recurring episodes of extreme vertigo. I started suffering from chronic migraines that respond to medication for a while and then seem to come back. My balance and equilibrium have worsened even when I'm not having a vertigo attack. I've also been having digestive problems similar to Irritable Bowel syndrome. My last MRI was 3 years ago, right around the mildest symptoms began. Could I have MS? Do I need another MRI?
402205 tn?1230481005 Hi everyone, I have a question. I am 13 days clean from hydrocodones (about 4-8 a day for 4 months). I just had a car accident and don't want to take anything for the pain. I was wondering about muscle relaxers. I've never had a problem taking them before. Should I take them? Will it make me relapse? Any help would be appreciated!
Avatar f tn I am currently on 1 1/2 tablets of Provigil daily Rheumy increased it yesterday), Maxalt (Neurologist prescribed for Migraines yesterday), 1000 mg of Naprosyn, 8 4 mg Tizandine daily, Skelaxin (another muscle relaxer for work hours only), Furosemide (lasix), Potassium, 3 Nortriptyline at night, Corgard, Phenergan, Compazine, Tranxene and Intramuscular B-12 injections.
Avatar m tn Told me to take as needed (didn’t have to take the full bottle). Took prescriptions for 4 days, Skelaxin caused stomach cramping even when taken as directed. Urine test came back cloudy with high white blood cell count. Concluded was very dehydrated and sent off for tests to determine if infection was present. Also had me go in for blood tests. All came back normal except Vitamin D. Advised to take 1000mg of Vitamin D per day. Follow up appt. set for 7/10 where they will do a urine test again.
585414 tn?1288941302 I understand some of these questions are complex but given that the tardive conditions cause respiratory convulsions and myoclonic spasms any idea that its been of some use would be of great help to me.
