Simvastatin heart palpitations

Common Questions and Answers about Simvastatin heart palpitations

vytorin

Avatar m tn Over the summer my primary care physician finally convinced me to go on simvastatin (I have a combined cholesterol of 240). Since then I have had 3 episodes (a few weeks apart) in which I wake up around 4 AM and have an irregular heart beat. The irregular beats last about 6 hours, and usually subside by noontime. The first time it happened I was worried so I saw my PCP and they did an EKG, put me on a 24 monitor and followed up with a heart ultrasound. All tests came back normal.
Avatar n tn (Cardiologist never told me palpitations are a side effect to the statins) I kept getting palpitations so I went and got a second opinion to a 2nd cardiologist. They did a echo, I wore a heart holster twice and did several EKGS. They found nothing wrong with my heart. This 2nd cardiologist still didn't tell me that the statins would do this to me. So I had to do my own research online and bring it to his attention 6 months ago. I told him that I believe the statins are doing this to me.
Avatar f tn I have read many stories of women your age and younger suffering heart attacks. I would certainly advise you to monitor your heart from this point forward. At least to a point where all events can be ruled out. I never asked what my Troponin levels were during my heart attacks. It was high for several days in '06. Take care, Ally.
Avatar f tn I took the pill in the morning and after a couple hours the heart palpitations started again and have been present for 24 hrs. I called my doctor and the nurse said i had the symptoms of axiety but also said to stop taking the Lisinopril. I have not taken that pill in 24 hrs. My question is could the Lisinopril have caused the palpitations and could it take some time to go away or should i look into axiety. It just seems odd that none of this was going on untill i took that Lisinopril.
Avatar f tn am on aspirin, bisoprolol and simvastatin. previosly had atenolol. if i have angina it is hard to detect. i have episodes of heartburn which doc says are angina attacks. i have just had a thyroid lobectomy. blood levels were borderline high and i had constriction probs, and wonder if that was causing the breathing probs, heartburn and palpitations.
Avatar m tn I've been taking 80 mg simvastatin daily for the last 8 years, will tis be tha cause of an elevated GGT reading of over 350?
Avatar n tn Beta blockers like metoprolol and ACE inhibitors like benazepril have been been shown to be of value in patients with congestive heart failure as well as for hypertension. Simvastatin is of value for patients with both diabetes and heart disease. Talk to your doctor and changes can be made to minimize the side effects.
Avatar m tn I consider what you describe to be bypass surgery, not open heart surgery, that is your heart was not opened. I could be wrong on that "fine" point, but to your cold limbs question I can say I had open heart surgery to repair my mitral valve and to do a mini-maze procedure on the inside of my heart to try to stop atrial fibrillation. This was done in November of 2007, and I have not noticed any increased sensitivity to cold temperatures or colder hands/feet...
428155 tn?1203688894 in New Zealand), which my GP had prescribed me 2 years beforehand to control my cholesterol level. I stopped simvastatin and all fibrillations have disappeared. As I was taking simvastatin, I was in fibrillation 17% of the time; 1 month after I stopped simvastatin, the level was down to 0%. I am now experimenting with alternative cholesterol control methods: Omega 3 gels, ground linseed, charcoal.
Avatar n tn I think they are in the same drug class, I've taken both with the similar results. As I recall, I was changed from lipitor to simvastatin because simvastatin isn't as strong a statin because of some very strong congestive heart meds that impact the liver and kidneys. Factors that can change liver functions include weight gain, alcohol consumption, exercise levels and diet, so it takes a health professional, which I'm not, to ferret out cause for blood test changes.
Avatar f tn I'll be interested to hear what others have to say. Several years ago I was at work and just lost vision in my left eye. No pain. It was just like someone flashed a bright light in my eye and the vision went dark gray. It also took about 10 minutes to clear which was gradual, not sudden. I went in, had my eye checked but all was fine. I haven't had it happen since so I never followed up with any other tests.
Avatar m tn Indapamide 1.5mg, Simvastatin 40mg, Metformin 1000mg, Levothyroxine 75mcg Familial Conditons: Aschaemic Heart Disease, Hypothyroidism, Diabetes. Rheumatic fever at age 10 (1987) suffering from endocarditis and arthritic knees, ankles, wrists and elbows, recovery took 3 months. Avatar f tn My right arm is the only thing that bothers me feeling a little tingly or a slight numb. I was put on an aspirin for life and on simvastatin. I now have one week since I stopped taking my simvastatin. I now want to try to conceive but my doctor suggested I stop simvastatin three months prior to trying due to it may cause birth deffects. I want to know if anyone has gotten pregnant after a stroke and how it went for you?
808920 tn?1268057768 I have always been very active, a non-smoker, non-drinker, no history of high BP or heart disease, which the doctors attributed my thus-far recovery to. At present time I am on Coreg CR, simvastatin, 81 mg. 81 mg aspirin. I was following a low-salt diet at the advice of my doctors but have since been instructed to increase my daily salt intake. I have had a echocardiogram w/bubble test, stress test, several ultrasounds with results indicating that a heart cath is not necessary.
Avatar f tn Because of your husband’s history of coronary artery disease, it might be advisable for him to continue with the Simvastatin. Drugs like Simvastatin reduce cholesterol levels but are also thought to have extra beneficial effects – for example reducing inflammation and improving the way the lining of the heart blood vessels work. Your husband’s doctor will continue to monitor his cholesterol levels.
Avatar n tn Women on average have 300% lower rates of heart disease than men, despite higher average cholesterol levels. The rate of heart disease in 65 year-old men is 10 times that of 45-year old men. Yet high cholesterol is not a risk factor in men over 65. (In fact, men over 65 with low cholesterol (<150 mg/dL) are twice as likely to die from heart disease as those with normal or even "high" cholesterol.
Avatar f tn I'm 62, and after being diagnosed with "high cholesterol about 12 years ago, I've been on simvastatin (20mg). This has always been an entirely "preventative" measure. No heart disease, I'm skinny (120lbs), don't smoke, hardly drink. Get exercize. I'd love to stop taking the statin given the data on possible muscle damage and cognitive issues. Without taking the statin my recent numbers are HDL 63, LDL 152, overall 235, with a ratio of 3.7.
Avatar f tn I've had heart palpitations for 10 months, they started right after a hiatus hernia operation. I get them everyday. I get them at different times, while watching tv or just relaxing in bed, doing normal everyday things. I had blood work done and was told I was low on B12 and was told to take 1000 mcg of a supplement daily. While taking it the palpitations got stronger so I stopped taking it and they eased up.
Avatar m tn I started noticing heart palpitations when I graduated college. It seems like my palpitations are getting worse and have now flat lined. So I do not sense that the palpitations are getting worse. I visited my doctors about them and they put me on a holter monitor and they didn't have a solution for my heart palpitations. So they decided to put me on beta blocker (Lowest Dose- Half of 25MG), which has helped a lot with my heart palpitations. I can now exercise without any palpitations.
Avatar f tn Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system. Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.
