Avatar f tn Research shows that 61 out of every 1000 patients on 80mg of simvastatin develop muscle problems. I do believe the half life for Simvastatin is quite short, 5 hours or less. If you take 80mg, then 5hours later only 40mg will remain. Another 5 hours only 20mg. So after 24 hours there will only be around 2-3mg in your body which is top up time.
Avatar n tn There are all kinds of statins out there, as ed said, you have to find out which one you tolerate. I have been on them for many years as I was unable to lower my LDL with diet and exercise alone. They have worked well and I have had no side effects, but everyone is different. Most of these can be replaced by the generic Simvastatin. It's cheap and is the basis of many of the meds out there.
Avatar f tn asprin, bisoprolol, ramipril, simvastatin, ticagrelor and lansoprazole So the aspirin and Ticagrelor are hand in hand, anti coagulants to help stop further clotting. Anti coagulants can cause ulcers in the stomach, so they've given you lansoprazole, to reduce acid levels. I switched to gastric resistant aspirin and stopped my anti-acid meds. Mainly because I was getting a few stomach aches. Ramipril is an ace inhibitor which is a very good med actually.

Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.

976897 tn?1379167602 I would have your same concerns, Ed. Comparing the diagnosis of CAD/CHF to a new suit of clothes, one size doesn't fit all, so to speak. That being said, the combined medication sounds like an interesting pill for someone just diagnosed. All the drugs mentioned are almost universally prescribed at the onset of symptoms. As the beta blocker generally is bumped up until a tolerance level is determined, I wonder if the 'Red Heart Pill' would be manufactured with a varied dosage.

I am now experimenting with alternative cholesterol control methods: Omega 3 gels, ground linseed, charcoal.
