Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
We have been on simvastatin for (wife for 1+ years, me for 2+ years) and stopped about 5-6 months ago - wife still having pains in the butt some dizziness and leg pain, but getting better - I am having butt pain and leg pains, swollen left knee, (but joint pain seems OK on stairs), recovery seems slower than my wife's. But both of us have just been diagnosed with right enlarged renal cysts which were not there before taking simvastatin.
Early December last year I was told that I have Hypercholesterolaemia and I would have to take Simvastatin 40 mg and quit smoking, I'm male and almost 52 yrs old.
I have been on the med for the last 2 weeks. My main complaint, even before the meds, was a constant dizziness and head fog, along with some anxiety. I've had the anxiety long before the diagnosis of hypothyroid, unless it was never found until now. Is the dizziness normal with hypo? That is my main question at this point.
I had flu in October and also put on simvastatin symptoms of junctional rhythm started in same time frame. Do I have cardiomyopathy? And how serious is all this. Ep showed great arteries and I've stopped simvastatin as I thought this might be the problem with junctional rhythm. Sometimes feels like war going on in my chest and takes my breath away.
That is one side-effect of beta blockers, but one some can get adjusted too. I take as much 200 mg a day of Metoprolol and it can affect me, even some dizziness at that level. I try to get by on 100 mg a day, still a stiff dose. This med also lowers BP, maybe you'd want to discuss with your doctor. A lot of people on this Community take it.
Does or has anyone who has been on baraclude for almost 2 years experienced side effects consistent with slurred speech, dizziness, unsteady walk etc. Please let me share any info you might have.

curious if stef2011 or studyforhope or StephenCastlecrag know whether simvastatin by itself can reduce viral load? I've read about the effects in conjunction with NUCS but I'm curious if sim is effective alone.
I have been taking simvastatin for three weeks since having a Tia but have also had a flu like cold for ten days , I am still having aching flu like pains which I would have thought would have passed by now . Actually, the vertigo morphed into more of a feeling of dizziness with my head swimming. There was no nausea or vomiting. Another ENT suggested vestibular migraine, but the addition of nortriptyline did nothing. Lying flat my symptoms are almost gone. Sitting up my head spins but I can tolerate the symptoms. However, standing and walking are intolerable. I was off work for a few months but after some vestibular rehab, I have returned with limited success.
