Avatar f tn “If you are unaware that a patient is on simvastatin and you give either boceprevir or telaprevir, the simvastatin level in the blood can go high and patients can develop muscle breakdown,” said Dr. Jensen. http://www.idse.net//ViewArticle.aspx?

Avatar n tn OK guys and gals, I felt like I was out of the water with the whole medicine causing the issue. I will admit it is a lot better and was completely gone until today. I noticed 2 little area's where it appears to be breaking out again. Should I leave it alone or should I apply the steroid cream? It is still a lot better like I said and no where near the type of breakout I have dealt with in the past but I still feel I am not normal? Am I just not giving this enough time?

Avatar m tn I use simvastatin to lower the cholesterol and lisinopril to lower the bp. The lisinopril works w/o the simvastatin and v.v.
Avatar n tn I was on simvastatin also and my cpk was high and getting higher and they took me off immediatly. as I understand it all statins have the potential to cause cpk to rise. you may want to stop taking it. check w/ your Dr.
Avatar m tn Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker while lisnopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitor. Both groups of drugs and simvastatin are unlikely to cause erectile dysfunction. However yes, all three of them can cause swelling of ankles. Talk to your doctor. You can change your medications. Among antihypertensives you need to avoid thiazides , beta blockers and alpha blockers. High blood pressure and reduced blood supply to penis can also cause erectile dysfunction.
Avatar n tn On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
Avatar m tn I am down to sleep a few hours a night. (Hopefully, I can resolve the cause of the back pain but, in the meantime and in anticipation of requiring pain relief as I get older.) For the past 20 years, I have avoided NSAIDs, acetaminophens, other pain relievers and muscle relaxants because of their adverse effects to liver and kidneys (personally more significant because my dad had kidney disease).
Avatar f tn Both simvastatin and pravastatin have the same side effect profile, but it does depend on the individual as to whether one would cause more issues than the other." The only negative I have read about Simvastatin in recent times is a study that showed high doses of simvastatin of 80 mg puts a patient at a greater risk for side effects including muscle damage. Most doctors have backed off of the 80 mg dosage as a result.
Avatar f tn He is still on about half the dose of the Crestor and the arthritis and platelet count are gone and normal. With the diet his cholesterol is 150 and the bp is now 115/70 and he finally lost 30 pounds and can keep it off so he is at 176. My cholesterol without meds went from 200 to 150 and my weight hasn't changed but my BMI is 21 to start with bp is normal or low 95/65.
Avatar m tn "Cholesterol and the Formation of Memory Cholesterol is vital for not only cognitive function such as learning and memory, but also all cell connections in the brain. It has also been identified to be imperative to the formation of synapses. Synapses are structures located between brain cells that allow the transmission of signals or information from one brain cell to another brain cell.
Avatar f tn In any case, statins are very safe and proving to me more safe all the time. The risk of any side effect is anywhere between 2% and 5% which classifies this as very safe. Common side effects are muscle pain and sore joints. I would take it and just keep an eye out for anything that may be a side effect. Avatar m tn But in an in vitro study you have a constant exposure to the drug, which is impossible to achieve in vivo. And the cells used are not the same as regular hepatocytes in human liver, with many differences in gene expression and cellular physiology.
Avatar n tn I have always gotten red in the face and had a red neck. I do have high blood pressure and do take medicine. I am a smoker and do drink some alcohol. I take procardia, metorprol and lisinipril for the blood pressure. With these meds it is regulated. I did have some tests done earlier in the year. One was a speical Cardio CT Angiogram and showed some narrowing of one artery, but not blocked. I have to watch my diet and stop smoking. Recently my face has gotten red more frequently.

Avatar m tn [0028] Even though no direct experiments were conducted to establish the cellular mechanism by which simvastatin caused the progressive regression of elevated alphafetoprotein levels of the above mentioned cases, the similarity in the response in all of these cases, and the progressive mode of the improvements demonstrate the therapeutic effect of simvastatin to prevent and reverse the formation of liver cancer in patients with an elevated alphafetoprotein level.
Avatar m tn Warnings and Precautions Because simvastatin can affect the liver, it is used with caution in people who drink more than a moderate amount of alcohol or have a history of liver disease. 471161 tn?1317190950 I too was told by my rheumy a year ago to stay out of the sun, when I was first diagnosed. I'm an outdoor person with a perpetual tan and never burn. I can always be found working in the yard, or in the pool in the summer. Last summer I stayed out of the sun from July on because of his warning. Recently I asked my PCP why I needed to stay out of the sun, what would happen if I didn't, etc?.
Avatar m tn (cirrhosis) It is critical that your doctor discovers the cause and the medication is adjusted if it is the simvastatin. Here are some other things that may cause the liver to be irritated and the GGT to be elevated.
Avatar n tn Actually, Lipitor is much stronger than Simvastatin and has a much higher incidence of side effects, unless I have missed some new data. According to the links I have Simvastatin is the safest statin on the market.
382218 tn?1341181487 Simvastatin had a beneficial effect on VEP in both latency (p = 0.01) and amplitude (p = 0.01), a borderline effect on the Arden score (p = 0.06) and VAS (p = 0.04), and no effect on brain MRI or on relapse rate between the groups. Conclusion: This study provides Class I evidence that simvastatin 80 mg daily is well tolerated and possibly effective in patients with acute ON.
