I am currently taking plavix, 81mg aspirin AND coumadin on a daily basis. I had a stent put in in July 2008 and triple by pass in 2006. I'm 64 and had my first MI at 33. My father died of an MI at 46, my EF is under 30%. My EP (at one hospital) just suggested I eliminate the plavix while my CHF specialist (at a nearby major research university) said I would be on plavix for a "long time" (forever?).

Duke University Medical Center recommended the target range of 3.0 to 3.5 for the St Jude Medical leaflet valve. I have been on it since 1993. I quit taking the simvastatin last tuesday, and by friday I looked perfectly normal with no steroid cream......

I use simvastatin to lower the cholesterol and lisinopril to lower the bp. The lisinopril works w/o the simvastatin and v.v.
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker while lisnopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitor. Both groups of drugs and simvastatin are unlikely to cause erectile dysfunction. However yes, all three of them can cause swelling of ankles. Talk to your doctor. You can change your medications. Among antihypertensives you need to avoid thiazides , beta blockers and alpha blockers.
High blood pressure and reduced blood supply to penis can also cause erectile dysfunction.
I have been on 20 mg of simvastatin and 3000 mg niaspan now my ck levels have went from 60 to 295 i could hardly walk .will my levels come down if i lower dose. and reverse damage. i have 12 stents .the rest of my blood work is fine.
My father in law is an alcoholic who has Atrial Fibrillation and is on coumadin. His cardiologist will not perform a cardioversion for him until his INR is within an acceptable level but it never is! The coumadin nurses frequently tell him his levels are too high and tell him to not take any coumadin for days at a time then the cardiologist tells him his INR is top low and they post pone the cardioversion.
We usually admit the patients 3 days prior to the surgery when we withhold coumadin and start heparin once the INR is less than 2.0. After surgery we usually start the heparin 12 hours after the surgery and coumadin shortly thereafter. The patient usually don't leave the hospital until their INR above 2.0. These are not hard and fast rules, and some physicians are more careful than others.
The body has a hard time clotting the blood due to aging. Also, Coumadin is hard on the arteries and with her age her arteries may be weak or thin. Coumadin is a very strong blood thinner and has some very serious side effects such as stomach cancer. It also can cause osteoporosis. Before her doctor starts her on any blood thinner, make sure that she has blood drawn and it is proven that her blood is thick enough to require this. You also may want to seek a second opinion.
On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
t do an ablation. I am now wearing and event monitor for 30 days. I have a feeling he wants me to go on coumadin. I don't want to do that because I am very active and I am petrified of bleeding out. when I went to my accupuncturist she said she believes it is happening because of the sympathetic nerve due to the stress I have been under. I also read where taking 40mg of vitaminB6 helps the arrhythmia. What are your thoughts on my situation.
She has really bad swelling in her legs, from the knees down, including her ankles and feet. Since her Coumadin dosage was doubled due to low INR levels about 6 months ago, the swelling has gotten worse. I understand that correlation is not causation, but is this common?
Also, do they ever decrease one's dosage of blood thinners, or is it always the other way around.
It was after this that I was put on the simvastatin and metoprolol. I also take aspirin ( full dose ) and flecainide for the afib. Both the metoprolol and flecainide are taken at a low dose.
My readings before I started the simvastatin, were ( 140 total ) HDL 33 LDL 79 and Triglycerides 139 . What has changed is that my HDL has gone down to 24 from 33 LDL has gone down to 65. So basically Everything has gone down, what has him worried is the HDL has gone down.
