Avatar n tn I read on several websites that it has been noted in several studies that CoQ10 levels are usually low in persons with heart conditions and even diabetes - especially if they are taking heart meds which can cause the CoQ10 to go even lower!! I could send you a multitude of inks on it. I also found that ATP might be a supplement to research to see if that might help also.
Avatar n tn And so much for their great ability to reduce inflammation...mine is through the roof. The l-carnitine and coQ10 and selenium have worked wonders though.
Avatar f tn My doctor said it was because of coQ10 and vitamin D deficiency from the statins. She recommended StatinHelp (www.statinhelp.com) that is sold on Amazon. It has really helped with the muscle pains. Statin side effects are never really discussed by the doctors. I found out two years into treatment when I mentioned needing something for back and leg pain to her. By then I was taking 10-15 advil per day to function. Thankfully she was a runner who believed in vitamin supplements.
Avatar m tn I believe there are different types and one absorbs much better than the other. CoQ10 is very important in heart muscle, and it makes sense it has a positive effect when on statins because they lower this. It's just a shame that CoQ10 hasn't been studied much more because this means it isn't available free for heart patients in the UK.
Avatar m tn it is all ********, you take it and of course monitor alt/ast every month both simvastatin and red yeast rice are ok and they are used on cirrhosis too because it lowers portal hypertension.
Avatar f tn “If you are unaware that a patient is on simvastatin and you give either boceprevir or telaprevir, the simvastatin level in the blood can go high and patients can develop muscle breakdown,” said Dr. Jensen. http://www.idse.net//ViewArticle.aspx?
Avatar m tn CoQ10 is helpful for under-active thyroids, for it stimulates the thyroid to work more efficiently. Because safety of CoQ10 during pregnancy and lactation has not been clinically proven, Q-Gel CoQ10 should not be used during this period except under the advice of a healthcare professional. There are no other known conditions for which CoQ10 is unsafe to ingest.
Avatar m tn red yeast rise (which contains naturally lovastatin, simvastatin and some other statins), simvastatin or other more powerful statins? is simvastatin the most potent since used already with interferon and studied in vitro with antivirals (most potent sim+etv 300:1) aslo what is the meaning of 300:1?150mg sim+0.5mg etv?
Avatar m tn The body normally produces sufficient CoQ10, although some medications such as statins may interfere with this process and CoQ10 levels in the body may decline with age and heart disease. Only small amounts of CoQ10 are available from food, mainly beef and chicken. Consequently, dietary supplements are the most common way to increase the body's CoQ10 levels. After being absorbed into the body, more than 90% of CoQ10 is converted to its active form, known as (CoQH2-10) or ubiquinol.
744427 tn?1239379163 Has your doctors said anything or referenced about taking too much CoQ10 and it causing hepatitis? I was reading up about that and it can affect your liver enzymes. I have found the CoQ10 to be very effective in 600mg or more for my bp and heart palpitations but worry about getting hepatitis as a "side effect". How long have you been taking the CoQ10 400mg per meal 3 x a day?
Avatar n tn I quit taking the simvastatin last tuesday, and by friday I looked perfectly normal with no steroid cream...... Thanks again for all the help!
Avatar n tn started taking COQ10 - along with magnesium, fish oil and hawthorn - for irregular beats/pvc's. Have read that people taking COQ10 should avoid "vigorous" exercise. Any validity? Have also read COQ10 enhances exercise endurance, and this seems contradictory ... Thank you.
475570 tn?1280941363 Hi, Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10 is produced by the human body and is needed for the basic functioning of cells. However, the amount decreases with age and is low in patients with some chronic diseases such as heart conditions, muscular dystrophies, Parkinson's disease, cancer, diabetes, and HIV. Levels of CoQ10 in the body can be increased by taking CoQ10 supplements, although safety and effectiveness have not always been proven.
976897 tn?1379167602 I've recently been reading a lot of material on this coenzyme and some things seem quite worrying. Of course, it's difficult to know if half of what you read on the internet is true or not. I have read a few Doctors reports on the subject and several research results. Apparently this coenzyme is very important for any kind of muscle cell to efficiently generate energy, low levels cause discomfort.
Avatar f tn t seen many posts on successful supplements other than magnesium, and in the absence of a blood test showing a deficiency taking a supplement may do more harm than good. You may get something putting your subject in the search field at the top right side of this page.
Avatar f tn I have been taking a few different suppliments one of them is CoQ10. Is this ok to take during pregnancy or should I stop taking it. Should I stop taking it immediately or slowly taper it off.
Avatar m tn I use simvastatin to lower the cholesterol and lisinopril to lower the bp. The lisinopril works w/o the simvastatin and v.v.
Avatar m tn Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker while lisnopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitor. Both groups of drugs and simvastatin are unlikely to cause erectile dysfunction. However yes, all three of them can cause swelling of ankles. Talk to your doctor. You can change your medications. Among antihypertensives you need to avoid thiazides , beta blockers and alpha blockers. High blood pressure and reduced blood supply to penis can also cause erectile dysfunction.
612551 tn?1450022175 There is limited evidence based on a few reports that suggest these 2 meds should NOT be mixed. Anecdotally speaking: CoQ-10 is frequently recommended for reducing side effects in patients taking statins ( like Lipitor) and I haven’t heard of anyone on warfarin having issues. I would recommend consulting your doctor first (obviously) and maybe refraining from COQ-10 unless you have some nasty symptoms that you absolutely can’t tolerate which COQ-10 has been shown to alleviate.
Avatar n tn I have been on 20 mg of simvastatin and 3000 mg niaspan now my ck levels have went from 60 to 295 i could hardly walk .will my levels come down if i lower dose. and reverse damage. i have 12 stents .the rest of my blood work is fine.
1323747 tn?1364806882 I wish I could say yes, as Lipoic Acid and CoQ10 were both prescribed for my son (after i got back his metabolic function test). Lipoic Acid smells horrible, so my son wouldn't take it, or use the skin cream. I didn't know it could affect thyroid function, it was prescribed for carbohydrate metabolism. He has been taking a little CoQ10 for awhile, based on an elevation of hydroxymethylglutarate on his test. (This is a metabolite of CoQ10 synthesis).
Avatar n tn On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
