Avatar f tn My huband was diagnosed. He is currently being treated with colchicine, 650 mg aspirin 4X daily, in addition to his other cardiac meds (Plavix, Simvastatin, Metoprolol). Dr feels he will need pericardiectomy ifcurrent treatment is not effective. Are there any alternate treatments that can treat the pericardium without surgical removal once there is scarring? Patient is 57 year old male, has suffered one heart attack, has 3 stents that have been inserted over last 5 years.
Avatar m tn drug_list=127-0,3323-0,728-0,2009-0,1806-1159 I plugged in the drugs you would likely be taking, Interferon, Ribavirin, Victrelis and colchicine (and also added allopurinol to see if it had any interactions). You can see that Colchicine is not a good mix with the Hep C drugs. Allopurinol seems to be okay. It is something you will have to discuss with your MD. Perhaps there is a substitute for the colchicine.

Avatar m tn We usually then continue the NSAIDS and colchicine and then slowly taper off of those. The reason for this is you need something to curb the inflammation after you're off the steroids so that you are not quickly cut off from any antiinflammatory agents. Based on the regimens we commonly use and what you are describing, your doctors are using the correct agents to treat you.
Avatar f tn “If you are unaware that a patient is on simvastatin and you give either boceprevir or telaprevir, the simvastatin level in the blood can go high and patients can develop muscle breakdown,” said Dr. Jensen. http://www.idse.net//ViewArticle.aspx?
Avatar m tn I have been on a colchicine/allopurinol daily regiment for years to control gout outbreaks. It was working great until the cost of colchicine went thru the roof. I am now up to 300mg allopurinol daily with outbreaks of gout occurring every 3 to 4 weeks. I grow weary of the pain and need to know if there is something else out there that will work like the colchicine/allopurinol combo did. HELP!!
Avatar n tn Knock on wood! My solution has been one tiny .6mg colchicine every night and a big glass of water. I also stay away from beer but have a glass of wine a couple times a week - no problem. Colchicine stops the body from attacking the crystals but does not lower uric acid very effectively. However I have noticed that crunchy deposits in my knees have gone away. Many Docs prescribe colchicine to go with allopurinol. I wonder if it is the colchicine that is actually doing the work.
Avatar f tn Treatment of acute gout includes NSAIDs, colchicine, and/or corticosteroids. The choice of therapy for a gout flare depends upon multiple factors, including patient age, comorbidities, and associated medical therapies; flare characteristics and past responses to therapy; the number of affected joints; and patient and clinician preferences. If you are not experiencing relief from your symptoms, you should inform your doctor so that he/she can modify your regimen accordingly.
2130405 tn?1335545274 Thank you for replying! It took years for her to be diagnosed. They thought she might have FMF (familial Mediterranean fever) and then P-Fapa.She's been on colchicine for over a year now and recently had her dose increased. We are hoping this will help her control the symptoms more.So far her doctor hasn't mentioned using steroids only colchicine so I will ask her about that next time.Does anyone know if the illness tends to run in families?Take care!

Avatar n tn I quit taking the simvastatin last tuesday, and by friday I looked perfectly normal with no steroid cream...... Thanks again for all the help!
Avatar n tn therefore, if I know ahead of time that a steak and wine is going to be for dinner, I go ahead and take the colchicine before heading to the steakhouse. if you are caught with a severe gout attack. I don't think it twice. I drive to the near east ER and get a cortisone shot. next day I'm go to go. ER's are now in abundance and they are staff by an MD. Last time I had to drive to it, I was out in less than 2 hours.
107366 tn?1305680375 High uric acid is associated with development of heart and kidney problems - so it may be good to have a good diet. I try on that score with more veggies and fruit- and to drink a lot of fluids - but colchicine has allowed me to eat a burger or have clam chowder without fear of an attack. I suggest anyone out there to try the little pill and water every night. No need to start after the attack subsides.
Avatar m tn I use simvastatin to lower the cholesterol and lisinopril to lower the bp. The lisinopril works w/o the simvastatin and v.v.
Avatar m tn Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker while lisnopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitor. Both groups of drugs and simvastatin are unlikely to cause erectile dysfunction. However yes, all three of them can cause swelling of ankles. Talk to your doctor. You can change your medications. Among antihypertensives you need to avoid thiazides , beta blockers and alpha blockers. High blood pressure and reduced blood supply to penis can also cause erectile dysfunction.
Avatar n tn I have been on 20 mg of simvastatin and 3000 mg niaspan now my ck levels have went from 60 to 295 i could hardly walk .will my levels come down if i lower dose. and reverse damage. i have 12 stents .the rest of my blood work is fine.
Avatar f tn A new echo says it is now constrictive pericarditis. They switched him off of the anti-inflammatory and prescribed colchicine for the first time in addition to a diuretic and high doses of aspirin. My question - once pericarditis escalates to constrictive pericarditis, what is the prognosis? I've read about the surgery. Sounds like a last resort. I need to understand what to expect from his treatment and if there are any alernate treatments that can be pursued.
Avatar f tn I was treated Intravenously with colchicine for my HCV along with a Myers cocktail which is Vit.B complex. I just found out it can cause bone marrow damage and lower WBC. Why would I be treated with this when I already have a challenged immune system from the HCV? Do you know anything about the UV treatment?
Avatar f tn I am 27 years old and recently had an ablation for SVT, AVNRT, and VT. It, as a whole, appears to be successful in that the arrythmias appear to be gone, but I have ended up with persistent pericarditis. This had greatly impacted my life in that I am in a great deal of discomfort. I am on colchicine 0.6 BID and indocin 25 mg TID. This has at least taken the edge off the pain but it is still not at a satisfactory level for me. Any suggestions on where to go from here or what else I could try??
Avatar n tn On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
Avatar f tn Patients were put on a cholesterol-lowering diet and given one of the medications. After 18 weeks, patients given simvastatin had significantly lower total cholesterol, lower LDL, lower triglycerides, and higher HDL cholesterol levels than those who took pravastatin. The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin).
Avatar f tn Problem is I think if you can't take one statin you may not be able to take any. But there are other drugs you can try like Niaspan (slow release niacin) and vitorin and so forth. I don't know if you are into changing your diet but if you get a chance watch the video Forks over Knives. It is how a plant based diet can reverse althroschlerosis. My husband's cholesterol was 260, blood pressure was 140/90 and weight 260. He is 6' 2" though.
620048 tn?1358018235 They read up on all of her meds called the Dr. he stopped the simvastatin and she is much better now and cont to improve. My husband is on it and has no problems. As with most drugs, they affect people different.
Avatar m tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
