Little is known about IPF and there needs to be more research money made available for IPF. The past 2 yrs. legislation has tried to be passed, to provide more research money for IPF. As of yet, legislation has not been passed. Your mother and you are definitely in my prayers. May God help you all get through this very difficult time.
Scarring, that can resemble interstitial fibrosis, can occur with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but COPD and interstitial pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) are 2 different diseases. Smoking causes COPD. The cause of IPF is unknown, and at this time, there is no proven effective treatment for it. Asbestos can also cause scarring, but unlike COPD and IPF, it frequently involves the membrane that encases the lungs, called the pleura.
A person who is developing IPF will first begin to notice a shortness of breath, a general fatigue, and often a dry, hacking cough which cannot be controlled.
Progressive: As a patient with undiagnosed IPF continues their daily activities, the lack of oxygen circulation begins to become more and more obvious, and the patient will find themselves out of breath during even the most routine activities.
I'm not sure what IPF is. Welcome to the patient communty. It's my understanding that a goiter can press on the airway and constrict it .. probably in serious situations the outcome can be equally as serious is my two cents. But I am not a doctor.
Your wife may have asthma and that could be responsible for the lingering cough, following what may have been an ordinary bout of acute viral bronchitis. "The white lines or streaks" could be a sign of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Given the normal pulmonary function tests (PFTs), that diagnosis is unlikely and would be even more so, if some or all of the white lines were present on the x-ray taken a few years ago. I would not jump to the conclusion that this is IPF.
My Dad was diagnosed with IPF , he was given Prednisone . He insists that after taking Prednisone, he coughs more and it is usually accompanied by thick mucus. The exertion in the coughing action causes his SpO2 level to drop drastically(below 70%) and heart beat rate also increases. No one believes him as the literature shows that prednisone is supposed to help with IPF. His doctor said that he can not stop the steroid abruptly so he needs to continue the dosage 10mg per day.
My doctor told me the delayed ejaculation is common with 50 mg dosage of Sildenafil and he said that Sildenafil 25 mg should be adequate and will not lead to delayed ejaculation.
I don't smoke and have no other major health problems. Is it useful to have intercourse 3-4 hours after taking the pill (25 mg), to slightly reduce the effect of the pill on ejaculation ?

I tried sildenafil and tadalafil and both worked very well only a few first times - later the was a small or sometimes no response. My testosterone is high (810) and no smoking, not overweight, blood work works O.K.

My RDW was high at 15. My IPF was low at 0.0. #Neut was high at 5.4. On my comprehensive metobolic panel my alkaline phosphatase was high at 19. And finally my Vitamin D level was 12. Can anyone give me valid information on what all this could possibly mean??? My doctor went on vacation!
Hepatic Impairment
In volunteers with hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class A and B), sildenafil clearance was reduced, resulting in higher plasma exposure of sildenafil (47% for Cmax and 85% for AUC). The pharmacokinetics of sildenafil in patients with severely impaired hepatic function (Child-Pugh Class C) have not been studied. A starting dose of 25 mg should be considered in patients with any degree of hepatic impairment [see Dosage and Administration (2.5) and Clinical Pharmacology (12.3)].
Side Effects of Penegra?
Like all medications, Penegra (sildenafil) can cause some side effects. These are usually mild & tolerable and don't last longer than a few hours. Some of these side effects are more likely to occur with higher doses of Penegra.
Which would be the correct time frame. As most IPF patients only live from 5 to 6 yrs. The lung doctor saw the first spot of the IPF back in 2001 from the xrays. A number of doctors missed this. My mother passed away in Aug. 2007 four months after a lung transplant. Our only hope. I will say that the university hospital that performed the transplant killed my mother. She got to go home for 2 days after the transplant. She spent 4 months in the hospital being brutalized after the transplant.
I am now wondering if my stomach issues start over every time I take another bluechew pill (which is only once every few weeks).

I am sure if you researched IPF, that you know idiopathic means cause unknown. Yes, it is a terminal and deadly lung disease. Life expectancy between 5-6 years. Sometimes, medication may slow it down. But, in my mother's case, the medications did not. I am afraid that yes, it can be hereditary. But, not in all cases. Lung disease is running in our family. My mother's father died with lung cancer. My mother's brother with COPD.

Recently i took her to our cardioligist and he suggested that there is a way of reducing the arterial pressure by using sildenafil which is a viagra(it reduced the arterial pressure significantly)

He was exposed to asbestos while in the Navy. 30 some years latter his doctors are calling it IPF. and blaming his disease on our pets, instead of asbestos. He is now at end stage of the disease. What if any is the likelihood that it is caused from our pets?
