521800 tn?1212329682 Hi, Thats a great feedback from your side .Zomig is Zolmitriptan which is an approved medicine for relief from acute attack of migraine. You got relief with zomid nasal spray that proves that your symptoms are due migraine only.Zolmitriptan can be used for long term for acute attack of migraine with or without aura.Side effects include increased risk of myocardial ischemia and cardiac arrythmia. You should check on your blood pressure and EKG to be on safer side.
10507009 tn?1410649642 After a couple years they switched the medicine to “Maxalt.” I am now 22 years old and was prescribed “Zolmig/Zolmitriptan” about a year ago. The doctor believed the dissolvable dose would be able to work faster and be more beneficial. I began getting migraines about two-four times a month and the Zomig was helpful. However about two months ago my migraines increased to two-four times a week! Symptoms are: -Left sided pain behind and to the left of my eye.
655875 tn?1295695107 The drug of choice however are triptans such as Sumatriptan (Imitrex), rizatriptan (Maxalt), naratriptan (Amerge), zolmitriptan (Zomig), almotriptan (Axert), frovatriptan (Frova) and eletriptan (Relpax). Hormone therapy may help some women whose migraines seem to be linked to their menstrual cycle. Other alternatives include stress management strategies, such as exercise, relaxation, and biofeedback may also reduce the occurrence and severity of migraine attacks.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Hi MsConfusedone, You mention that you have been on almost everything, can you be more specific? It would help knowing exactly what you have tried so that I could suggest medications that you have not tried. Also, how many migraines do you get per month? Yes, most migraine medications do work well for most people. But, not everyone has the same success with all medications. For acute treatment of migraine headaches, first line treatment is triptans.
Avatar n tn After some time of taking zomig nearly everyday I had to resort to syndol again. The side effects of zomig are not pleasant at all and drain all my energy and are too expensive to take everyday. The syndol seemed to be working but after a while they kind of stopped working again but was again addicted. I have lost hope of my headache problem ever being solved. I cannot stand all this pain and drugs. One way or another I feel sick all times of the day with no exaggeration whatsoever.
768044 tn?1294223436 For the majority of my migraine headaches, the triptan that I use is Zomig Nasal Spray. I find that of all the triptans I have tried, for me, Zomig works best. I use the 5mg Nasal Spray. I also have a prescription for Imitrex Injection too, although the Imitrex Injection is to use for my most severe migraine headaches (what I used to call my "suicide headaches" or what I now refer to as a 9/10 headache using the Pain Scale that was recently posted in Pain Management Community Forum).
768044 tn?1294223436 midrin seems to work the best for me, plus, I can get a lot more of it per month than the other triptan types.
Avatar n tn Hmmmm...I've been on Naproxen before for other reasons and it never got rid of my headaches, even the moderate or mild ones. You might want to try a migraine medication just to see if it works. I get terrible daily headaches, but some of them turn into really awful migraines (where I can't function and am forced to sleep it off because I'm in so much pain).
Avatar f tn Almotriptan (axert), Rizatriptan (maxalt), Zolmitriptan (zomig nasal spray... don't bother with the tablets, the body can't absorb the chemical in the tablet form), Sumatriptan (sumatriptan injection or treximet tablet... don't bother with imitrex tablets, the body can't absorb the chemical in tablet form). If you are having cluster headaches, then you should be taking sumatriptan injections and also be using oxygen therapy.
Avatar n tn Also, a couple years ago I had an accident and now there is a soft spot on the left side of my head that is still sensitive. I don't know if it's affected my migraines or not, it's hard to tell, but no tests were done on it and it will still hurt at times. My doctor has given me imitrex (sp?) 50mg and even that isn't doing anything. Not many pills affect me, even vicadin doesn't.
Avatar n tn I use zomig nasal spray for my migraines and one of the side effects is nose bleeds in the side that you spray the medicine in. Probably not what's going on in your case... but since you get migraines, just thought I'd throw that out there just in case!
Avatar f tn Headache on left front side with a crazy visual aura, took zomig, hour later took ibuprofen 600, albuterol sulfate and Ritalin. Cold and hot feeling across skin, mostly on right side, nausea, joint pain, burning pain in abdomen and chest, dizzy, tired and short of breath. Migrating sharp pains across body. Ringing ears. Vision is unnaturally blurry. Chest and stomach symptoms worsen when laying down, head symptoms worsen when standing up.
Avatar n tn the LAST thing you want is morphine side-effects, which are extreme nausea and stomach upset and vomiting... hydromorphone has NONE of these side-effects, so it is much better for migraine treatment. it is also a billion times stronger so make sure they do NOT give you any more than 2mg as a starting dose... otherwise you might end up feeling worse than when you first went into the hospital... trust me, being high is NOT fun. all you want is relief from your symptoms...
Avatar f tn The two that she offered were Welbutrin and Remeron, well because most of the side effects of welbutrin is what i already have promblems with, anxiety, nervousness, jittery, GI issues we chose Remeron, which she said was a tetracyclic antidepressant, but when i got home to research, i saw that it said it affects both serotonin and norepinephrin ( sp?) so i of course got anxious about it.

Avatar m tn Yes, the prescription medication is called a triptan... or triptans are a class of medication and examples of triptans are sumatriptan (brand name imitrex), zomig, maxalt, axert... well those are just to name a few. And yes, they are migraine medication and you take them at the first signs of the migraine, the SS, and it will stop the SS as long as you take it at the very first signs that it is starting. You can get it prescribed by a neurologist or your family doctor.
Avatar f tn I posted a question asking if zomig knocked other people out.... or if anyone found any sort of knock-out side-effects with triptans... I totally feel out of it after I take my triptans... it takes the pain away... but I am out of it... tired... fatigued... and even confused sometimes for hours after the migraine... sometimes for the rest of the day!!!
Avatar n tn For weeks my back tried to break itself until a doctor found a brain abscess the size and volume of a golf ball on the left side of my brain. I was rushed to surgery which removed the majority of the abscess via a cranyotomy. That portion of my brain was damaged and said to have been destroyed by the abscess.
Avatar n tn - Hydromorphone tablets 1mg (a type of synthetic morphine that is stronger and does not have any of the nasty upset-stomach or nausea side-effects that morphine has) if the Zomig, Naproxen and Gravol all do not help and the pain is at a 8+/10 level.
1102283 tn?1257817472 In the past I used Maxalt-MLTs, and they worked really well for me for a long time too. A lot of my friends use Maxalt-MLTs with great success. Although, Zomig Nasal Spray has got to be my favourite triptan on the market. Other acute migraine medications include analgesics and antiemetics. You mention you can't take NSAIDS anymore, so I guess that would rule out the prescription medication Naproxen which is quite a popular migraine analgesic.
Avatar f tn t believe it damaged my liver with those brief times, but with the first period of time I took those, I got the side effect of losing about a third of my hair. But later, I was desperate enough for a preventative I was willing to take them again and risk losing hair again. But the pills didn't really seem to help prevent migraines that time, so I discontinued them a second time.
Avatar f tn IM HAVING BAD HEADACHS ON MY LEFT SIDE OF THE HEAD. ITS THAT BAD THAT I GET UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.NO MEDICATION HELP ME. I GOT CT SCAN DONT EVERYTHINGIS FINE. IT GOES AWAY FOR FEW MONTHS AND COME BACK.. I DNT UNDERSTAND WHATS GOING ON WITH ME.
Avatar f tn The triptan that I use is Zomig Nasal Spray, generic name Zolmitriptan. Some other examples of triptans are Maxalt, generic name Rizatriptan and Axert, generic name Almotriptan. It would be worth it to give one of these other triptans a try. I would suggest getting a triptan in a fast acting form, either a quick dissolve tablet or a nasal spray.
Avatar f tn I used to use Imagrain 50mg and they worked a treat. However the last few times I used them i started to have side effects (ntingling skin, heat waves, vertigo) and they now no longer work at relieving the pain. Last night I had the worst one of my life. Nothing helped, no position helped the pain, no massage or rubbing! I almost went to the emergancy but somehow got through it. It was some of the worst pain I have ever expereienced. It was the whole left side of my head and neck.
910419 tn?1289483727 I have a tentative diagnosis of basilar migraine that got slapped on me ~7 years ago. That was before my heart condition was diagnosed, so I'm not sure if I still qualify. The thing is, I have an Rx for Zomig, (a triptan) and my mom's made me really scared of taking the Zomig for fear of cutting off blood circulation. Does anybody else here have basilar migraines and take triptans? If not, do you have an abortive of any kind?
589143 tn?1291498173 Hi! Well, it sounds like you have very bad migraines that are very hard to treat. Some people only get migraines once or twice a year. Some people only get migraines once or twice a month. If they are able to find a medication that can help them with the pain, then they have their migraines under control and that is about as much as they can do for their migraines.
