prevacid

268911 tn?1213744781 I'm new to this forum and was wondering if someone might be able to tell me if abdominal pain, constipation and gas are side effects of PPI's. My neighbor is a doctor and prescribed me prevacid, I took them for 2 weeks, and began to notice these problems. I told him this and his response was "Prevacid does not have those side efffects." but when I search "Prevacid side effects" these symptoms show up on every page. ANy direction woudl be appreciated.
547002 tn?1219797376 I took/take Prevacid for 6 weeks and also have terrible side effects from it. Anxiety gone through the roof, muscle twitching in my throat, depression beyond believe. I was supposed to take 30 mg a day but because I had a really bad swallowing problem (turned out those were actually anxiety crampings of my throat) I took a few times 60 mg a day (morning and evening a 30 mg).
634733 tn?1316625992 I’ve had the most horrible side effects. I already suffer with really bad acid reflux (diagnosed as IBS co they couldn’t find anything else). Well this drug gave me acid to die for – pains in the neck, back, stomach under my ribs; I thought I was having a heart attack!! The acid is so bad at the moment it is making me cough when it hits my throat and the pain – well – and its been 36 hours since I took a tablet. For goodness sake I only took 10 mg and only managed that for 2 days!!!
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if permanent loose stools a common side effect of the regular intake of Omeprazole? I have no other side effects whatsoever.
Avatar n tn I have been on reflux meds for the past 5yrs and have had numerous side effects from hyperhydrosis, a tremor in my hand (which I was on propranolol for about 1yr 9mths for), and most recently a tic has developed in my eyelids. The hydrosis has finally went away (4.5yrs later) and the hand tremor is minimal but my eyelids are going nuts. I am assuming its the drugs for reflux (I am having surgery for that soon). Does anyone know of anything else that would be causing this?
268911 tn?1213744781 If so can you tell me if you are having side effects from them? I currently take one 20mg Prilosec tablet and they seem to make me dizzy and light headed. I also notice pain in my lower abdomin.
Avatar m tn I will keep this post updated until I found out whats going on with me and if Prevacid really could cause those symptoms. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of this.
Avatar f tn It has many side effects, but I no longer have my pharmacy print-out of the side effects listed. My doctor told me Prevacid would not cause severe colitis, but it did. My GI doctor said it could, and I googled "Prevacid side effects" and found a Mayo Clinic article which stated that not only Prevacid, but Prilosec, and the other PPI drugs could in certain people cause severe colitis lasting for weeks.
Avatar m tn At six weeks your body has fully absorbed these meds so side effects is more common. When I took Riba without more of a meal I would also get and upset stomach so that was more then likely your problem, again a pretty common side... As for the upper pain in the abdomen It is more then likely Acid Reflex as these meds bring that on. Talk to your doctor but for me he had me take over the counter Prevacid or Prilosic both are safe to take. Stay away from things like tums. again pretty common side.
Avatar m tn worsened IBS - bad abdominal cramps (caused by Nexium together with fever and Zantac) a white-coated and burning tongue (caused by Prevacid, Zantac, Protonix, Pepcid, Riopan). I'd like to know if anybody has experienced intollerance to the various antireflux medicines similar to mine. Have you ever had a severely burning tongue caused by them?
Avatar m tn //www.drugwatch.com/accutane/side-effects.php and here is a link for prevacid http://www.drugwatch.com/prevacid/side-effects.
Avatar n tn Does this sound reasonable? I get concerned re the medications and side effects. Would there be any by taking both? I am also on aspirin, lipitor and synthroid.
Avatar f tn Sorry to hear about your son. My son was born with reflux and was put on Prepulsid which was recalled 3 months later due to deaths. Encouraging huh? anyway, he is now 8 and has been complaining nightly for over a month of stomach pains at night. I am stumped. However, I am opting to take him to a Naturalpathy to take a non-invasive test called a Bio-meridian Stress Test.
Avatar f tn Those children who improve with dietary manipulations generally started the problem with some acute enteritis, probably infectious in origin, but maybe of an allergic nature, and the diarrhea has persisted beyond the expected recovery. The characteristics of this situation are: 1. stools are sometimes normal, 2. weight exceeds height percentile, 3. watery stools are more frequent in the afternoon and evening, 4. calorie intake seems higher than needs, 5.
Avatar m tn There is a recent warning put out by the FDA that says that long term use of prevacid can result in low magnesium levels which in turn can result in irregular heartbeats. Look at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000964/ for more info. I am currently being tested to see if prevacid in causing my heartbeat problems.
Avatar f tn I saw my GI specialist and he recommended I start taking reglan again because the gastroparesis might be causing the reflux. However, I am aware of the dangerous side effects of reglan and am wondering if I continue to take the prevacid daily without reglan, could I still develop Barretts esophagus if the prevacid is stopping all the acid production in my stomach?
Avatar n tn So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?). Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn signs of increased blood sugar levels (e.g., increased thirst, increased urination, confusion). Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: signs of vitamin B-12 deficiency with long-term (over 3 years) treatment (e.g., unusual weakness, sore tongue, numbness or tingling of the hands/feet). A serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
1176471 tn?1263733305 took that medicine and I became sooo depressed and had crazy crying spells for no reason...when I read the phamplet of side effects it states in their about mood swings and depression, so I stopped that immediatley and week later I was back to normal....so cannot take prevacid...my symptoms have not gotten worse but they seem to come and go...I do believe that stress has alot to do with it..just trying to figure this stuff out...growing old is no fun!
Avatar n tn gave me a Prevpak, combination antibiotics and Prevacid together, but there seems to be side effects. I am thinking about going on a fast to rid my body of all the toxins and start again with sensible eating. You are so right, it's not worth it.
Avatar f tn The dr yesterday put me on nexium for 5 days then will start 30 mg of prevacid which has not helped in the past. I really appreciate any suggestions as I really do not care to have a 4th stay in the hospital this year. Thanks...
163305 tn?1333668571 I just thought we all might take a little time out from our frets, our side effects, tx, and remember what a trick and treat life can be. Nothing makes me smile like a little kid in a costume. Happy Halloween everybody!
Avatar m tn Prilosec, Nexium and other PPIs work by reducing the amount of stomach acid produced by the glands in the stomach lining. These heartburn treatments also suppress the levels of nitric oxide in the cells lining the inside of the circulatory system. Lower nitric oxide levels have been associated with heart problems.
1806721 tn?1554333407 Hi...both meds are PPI's and work the same...getting off either needs to be done with the help of ur Dr, u need to step off slowly ot avoid the rebound effect of this med. PPI's stop production of the acids, when u stop taking the meds, it flips the on switch and many times our system makes too much all at once and we feel the same as we did b4....this is y it is very important to slowly step off these meds and know u may have some GERD until ur body adjusts.
