prevacid for babies side effects

i had blood work done and now my cholesterol is 160 without any changes except for the Prevacid. Can Prevacid lower cholesterol ? I was worried because I have read that an unexplained drop in cholesterol could mean cancer someplace.

I'm new to this forum and was wondering if someone might be able to tell me if abdominal pain, constipation and gas are side effects of PPI's. My neighbor is a doctor and prescribed me prevacid, I took them for 2 weeks, and began to notice these problems. I told him this and his response was "Prevacid does not have those side efffects." but when I search "Prevacid side effects" these symptoms show up on every page. ANy direction woudl be appreciated.

I took/take Prevacid for 6 weeks and also have terrible side effects from it. Anxiety gone through the roof, muscle twitching in my throat, depression beyond believe. I was supposed to take 30 mg a day but because I had a really bad swallowing problem (turned out those were actually anxiety crampings of my throat) I took a few times 60 mg a day (morning and evening a 30 mg).

I’ve had the most horrible side effects. I already suffer with really bad acid reflux (diagnosed as IBS co they couldn’t find anything else). Well this drug gave me acid to die for – pains in the neck, back, stomach under my ribs; I thought I was having a heart attack!! The acid is so bad at the moment it is making me cough when it hits my throat and the pain – well – and its been 36 hours since I took a tablet. For goodness sake I only took 10 mg and only managed that for 2 days!!!

There can be side-effects with the use of PPIs - no drug is without side-effects unfortunately. They can include changes to bone density - more ease of fracture - and anemic states due to loss of B12 uptake. Changes in bowel habits and loose stools can be a result of the use of PPIs. If you cut down on acid, you cut down on the amount of food that's thoroughly digested and able to be absorbed. Those materials will cause changes in the output of the digestive system in a number of ways.

I have been on reflux meds for the past 5yrs and have had numerous side effects from hyperhydrosis, a tremor in my hand (which I was on propranolol for about 1yr 9mths for), and most recently a tic has developed in my eyelids. The hydrosis has finally went away (4.5yrs later) and the hand tremor is minimal but my eyelids are going nuts. I am assuming its the drugs for reflux (I am having surgery for that soon). Does anyone know of anything else that would be causing this?

Hmm...I took Protonix and Prilosec for a few years. I can't really say that there are any side effects...or any that I experienced. I definitely didn't get dizzy or anything like that. But one thing to remember if you take Prilosec with food..its almost like you didn't even take it. You need to take it on an empty stomach..prefereably as soon as your feet hit the floor in the am getting out of bed. Then eat breakfast about 30 minutes after you take it.

and found a Mayo Clinic article which stated that not only Prevacid, but Prilosec, and the other PPI drugs could in certain people cause severe colitis lasting for weeks. Different people have different side effects, some people have no side effects to the the same drug.

My husband went through all the screening and got accepted today! YEAH!!! He will start within the next week or so. His blood platelets are low-70. Of course he is a little intimidated by the what if's, side effects????? Like the heart attack, stroke etc. He would go to the hospital weekly for his shots and testing and I am sure they can find any abnormalities in enough time to take him off the drug ...but just a little skeptical is all. Can anyone help shed some brighter light my way?

I took Nexium 20mg for 11 days and had to stop because of its severe side effects. Then I took Protonix 20mg for 13 days and had to stop because of severe burning in my mouth, chest and tongue. I tried taking Riopan and Gaviscon in December and January without success because they caused a nausea and a burning tongue. Then I had one pill of Zantac 75mg and I suffered hard from abdominal cramps for one day and a burning tongue for 7! Etc..etc...

Saw GI MD 3 days ago who put me on prevacid 30mg 2x a day and pepcid 40mg at bed time for 6 weeks. Does this sound reasonable? I get concerned re the medications and side effects. Would there be any by taking both? I am also on aspirin, lipitor and synthroid.

t switched, try switching and see if that in itself provides any relief as Nexium seemed to work much better for us than the Prevacid. My little guy can't talk so I don't know what he was feeling in terms of pain but he would cough and cry all night long. He's 3 now and this was from about 12 months to 2.5 years that he did this. Keep us posted!

So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?). Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I take a proton pump inhibitor (Prevacid) each morning for reflux and my primary care doc says it quiets the vagus nerve (near the heart) down, helps with irritation that might cause irregular beats. I try to take it an hour after my dose of Atenolol -- I want to make sure I'm absorbing my Atenolol. I think Jeric is on to something -- I'd ask the doctor.

HI, I am a 27 year old female who was diagnosed with gastroparesis and gerd in 2007. I have been on 30mg of Prevacid daily for almost 4 years now and just recently have been having terrible symptoms again with gerd. I saw my GI specialist and he recommended I start taking reglan again because the gastroparesis might be causing the reflux.

gave me a Prevpak, combination antibiotics and Prevacid together, but there seems to be side effects. I am thinking about going on a fast to rid my body of all the toxins and start again with sensible eating. You are so right, it's not worth it.

Thank you for saying it is the Protonix. Since I stopped taking it 7 days ago I am finally starting to finally feel a little better!!! I too agree it was the Protonix. I hae no experience with prevacid but have been taking pepcid nonstop to deal with the acid and it is def helping. Pepcid is in a different family then PPIs. Good Luck I really know how awful this can be and I hope you find some relief.

The dr yesterday put me on nexium for 5 days then will start 30 mg of prevacid which has not helped in the past. I really appreciate any suggestions as I really do not care to have a 4th stay in the hospital this year. Thanks...

After taking Prevacid, I gain my appetite back. The problem is, I have develope new symptoms after taking prevacid for 1 week. I am having very loose bowel movements, blood on the toliet paper when I wipe, indigestion, lower abdominal pain. Most importantly is I am having more frequent heartburn and chest pain, which I don't have when I am on the H2 blocker.

Im taking Prevacid and Propulsid for my stomach problems but everytime i eat my chest starts to hurt, why is that?

Hi...both meds are PPI's and work the same...getting off either needs to be done with the help of ur Dr, u need to step off slowly ot avoid the rebound effect of this med. PPI's stop production of the acids, when u stop taking the meds, it flips the on switch and many times our system makes too much all at once and we feel the same as we did b4....this is y it is very important to slowly step off these meds and know u may have some GERD until ur body adjusts.

I used ibuprofen pretty often each day for about two weeks for severe pain in my hand and finger joints. I began to have chronic nausea, got off the ibuprofen, started taking Prevacid and Pepcid Complete, then Reglan per doctor's prescription. Bad side effects from Reglan--irritability, dizziness, depression,sleepiness. Got off of it. After about 4 weeks, I still have some nausea and only want to eat starches and sugars. Had gallbladder removed 6 months ago.
