Avatar f tn The oral form was not approved for use in cats at all. However, veterinarians are allowed to use medications in an “extra label” or “off label” manner, meaning they can legally prescribe oral meloxicam for cats." Please keep us updated, I hope all is well. Certainly better safe than sorry right?
1394098 tn?1385960134 Thank you for the encouragement. I thought the end would be easier but it's a good thing that I feel this way now instead of in the middle of tx. It would have been hard to continue. With the end in sight it makes it easier to tolerate. And congrats on ending your tx. I'm so glad you are feeling better. I don't get on the forum very often but I appreciate all the wisdom and encouragement I've gotten from ppl here.
Avatar m tn Both the medication with give almost equal amount of pain relief though meloxicam is associated with fewer side effects as compared to ibuprofen. Though pain relief may be immediate, anti-inflammatory action may take a few days to build up. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn I do not see kidney function on the list of side effects. Did you look on WebMD? Just curious. I’m prone to stones. That is why I’m asking. Don’t trust doctors at all anymore.
Avatar f tn Is there anyone who is taking Meloxicam that would know how much aspirin is in it? I am allergic to aspirin and just read the printout from the pharmacy. Can't call my dr till Mon. and think maybe I shouldn't take it. On the other hand my dr knows I'm allergic to aspirin. Hoping someone may know.
Avatar n tn I thought it was the start of some horrible disease until I thought to look up the side effects of meloxicam. I quit meloxicam and started feeling better after a couple of days (it take a few days to get out of your system because it has a relatively long half-life). After about 2 weeks I'm pretty much back to normal. I hope y'all eventually recovered as well - that was scary!

1550149 tn?1340000730 In a search for an answer to your side effects question I also did some looking into the prescribed Meloxicam. Some of the side effects of Mobic (meloxicam) are problems with vision or balance and headaches. Sorry I could not be of greater assistance. Please discuss your SX with your prescribing physician. It may behove you to try an alternative pain medication to see if your SX will decrease or resolve.
Avatar f tn If you are taking the meloxicam to address the side effects of this drug then it would probably be rational to discuss stopping both with your doctor. Thyroxine is for hypothyroid. It is very important to treat low thyroid adequately. If thyroid is not well treated it can make diabetes management harder and can also result in higher cholesterol levels. So, look at what each drug is for. Then determine if each one is really needed. I don't know you or your medical history....
Avatar m tn The thing I can speak to is the fact that most of the meds we are prescribed can have pretty nasty side effects. If you are concerned about the medication, talk to your doctor and see if there is another option, maybe something that is not as strong to try for starters and, if that does not work out, move up. Many of us have to weight the side effects against the benefits considering all of the ways our conditions effect our lives.
Avatar f tn This thread scared me a lot when I was having side effects from Meloxicam so I just wanted to leave a comment to clear things up. If you're having numbness and weird tingles, even slight burning, don't worry. These side effects will most likely pass with time. They did for me (it took about 10 days though). I feel perfectly normal now. The comments the people left in this thread are completely irresponsible and unacceptable. It isn't right to wildly speculate.
Avatar n tn His pupils were fixed and dilated, his gait was extremely wobbly and he seemed to navigate in bursts of energy. I discontinued the med and the head posture returned to normal over three days. Gait took a day or so longer and pupils started to react after five days but remain sluggish. Drug induced myasthenia gravis is described rarely in the literature. My very experienced vet says he has never seen it. Has anyone else?
Avatar m tn You may be justified for your opinion of the ddrug in question. Meloxicam can increase your risk of life-threatening heart or circulation problems, including heart attack or stroke. Do not use this medicine just before or after having heart bypass surgery (also called coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG). Seek emergency medical help if you have symptoms of heart or circulation problems, such as chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, or problems with vision or balance.
1252901 tn?1271131868 Is it stronger and does it work better than prescription-strength naproxin? What kind of side-effects does it have? Does it affect your mood like vicodin does? I'm just wondering about other people's experiences with this drug. thanks.
1305767 tn?1361192676 Is it safe to take ibuprofen in the same day as Meloxicam? I take 15 mg of the Meloxicam in the morning for pain but need additional pain relief later in the day and I know that both drugs are NSAID so I don't want to accidentally overdose.
Avatar f tn t think I had that , also mild back flow of left heart valve. Treatment was a shot of cortisone in each hip and priscribed Meloxicam 1 day for 6 weeks this all helped a great deal.
Avatar m tn I am almost sure celelbrex is in the same family, so to speak, as meloxicam.. I ended up losing the lining of my stomach. I had had a problem with anti flams for a while and i new i couldnt take celebrex as i had terrible cramps in my stomach. My doctor gave me the meloxicam by mistake, he done it again the other day but luckily i spotted it and he apologised and changed them to etoricoxib. Please be careful when you are given pain relievers and anti flams.
Avatar m tn Hello Flowr, I understand your hesitancy to take Meloxicam. Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and fever reducer effects. It's often used in Arthritic and inflammatory conditions. However any NSAID comes with concerns - including OTC NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen. Several years ago Glucosamine & Chondroitin was popular with medical providers. It was hailed as the new and one of the best "treatments" for restoring cartilage and reducing pain.
Avatar n tn I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn They prescribed me Meloxicam and told me to take extra strength tylenol with it... it has helped some but still in extreme amounts of pain. Sitting and laying down do not give me relief... if I can keep adjusting and find a position the pain will to go down then I can stay in the same position for 5 to 10 minutes and tolerate the pain. Heat and cold have no effects. I tried a heating pad the first night it started and had no relief at all.
4190741 tn?1370177832 Metacam® is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication. Its usage in cats for the treatment of arthritis is controversial and off-label (being administered in a way not approved by the FDA). If your cat is being treating with Metacam®, it is important to make sure that your cat does not become dehydrated and is not suffering from kidney disease.
Avatar m tn m a 28 year old male, and I have a question about NSAIDs for chronic pain. I use ibuprofen daily most of the time for a torn meniscus in my left knee that I had surgery on and I have arthritis too. I also take it for a herniated disc (L-5) and ankle pain. I have acid reflux disease and esophagus problems as well. Is it safe to take all this Ibuprofen with the stomach problems I have, or should I talk to my Dr. about possibly prescribing another medication?
175688 tn?1297556647 Sorry for being so impatient but I posted a question awhile ago about taking Meloxicam or Elavil to help with withdrawals from vicodin....does anyone know if either one of these helps or what I can do in order to make this go smoother?? Please let me know.
Avatar f tn I believe this is one of several questions you've posted on the same subject of post tx side effects. You've had many honest reponses, most if not all positive. I'm beginning to wonder if you're looking for a reason NOT to start treatment. With your significant scarring, this alone is a good reason to begin treatment - and many here can share the downfall and significant sx of progressing to cirrhosis.
