Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel dosage children

seroquel

1168718 tn?1464987135 hi everyone, was just wondering if you guys have had any trouble with Seroquel? I am being put on it for sleep, and I have read up on it, and the side effects are kinda scarey. Does anyone have any input? My Dr. is putting me on a very tiny dose to start, as I reacted to Nortriptyline and have been on nothing for sleep for 3 days now. Can anyone give me some help please??
Avatar m tn SEROQUEL XR is not approved to treat depression; however, SEROQUEL is approved to treat bipolar depression. SEROQUEL and SEROQUEL XR are not approved for patients under the age of 18 years. The most common side effects are dry mouth, drowsiness, sedation, dizziness, high blood sugar, weakness, constipation, abdominal pain, sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing, sore throat, weight gain, abnormal liver tests, upset stomach, and sluggishness. Sounds kinda nasty to me.....
Avatar n tn i was on Seroquel and i stopped my medication before i ever became pregnant. my ob did want to make sure i wasnt taking that medication. one reason why i dont think you should be taking that kinda medication is because its like a tranq and mild sedative. i can only imagin the effects on the baby.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that it is very hard to do studies on children and drugs. My son is currently taking Seroquel and Lithium. He has in the past taken Risperdal, then Zyprexa. Both of which are anti-psychotics. Both drugs helped him a lot with irritability, psychosis and rages, but caused excessive weight gain. He is now taking Seroquel because it is not supposed to cause weight gain.
Avatar f tn the dopiness mentioned was more of a drugged out stupor for me and only occurred at dosage changes. Tingling in the fingers or toes lessens over time; occasionally have bad days. I do tend to have numbness in the tips of my fingers most of the time. These things I've gotten use to. What I've finally discovered from reading here, is the cause of the hair loss which was extreme over the last six months.
Avatar f tn they put me on a small dosage of prozac and gave me some samples of seroquell (sp?) has anyone heard of this or taken them? Im on day 5 or 6 , ive lost count because ive had such bad anxiety and depression. I almost went to the hospital because it got so bad. And the addict i am , once i got my rx i went out and did 1 oxy for a sort of last hoorah :( will i be set back? i start therapy monday and told my family and my husbands family about everything. but not slipping up yesterday. any advice.
665370 tn?1237087966 Im just curious because some of my older friends are wanting children...but im on lithium, seroquel, venlafaxine, lamotrigine....and thats pretty much it... but obviously it would affect the fetus, but to what extent do you think? Im assuming this would be an odd questiong to ask my psych. I personally think that the lithium would kill the fetus, even though it is a some what low dosage... so this is more or less a curious question...
1039200 tn?1314915608 It's really thrown me. The emotional pain is overwhelming. Well my family has joined forces with my ex and taken my children away from me as they think I am a suicide risk and incapable of looking after them. They have not even bothered to contact me to see how I am. I am totally alone and feel like I am a complete failure. My partner has left me, my best friend is his sister whome I cannot talk to about the split as it is inappropriate.
Avatar n tn I have observed that my son is very resistent to change, tantrums often, can be aggressive--although he is usually only aggressive towards me--, and is reluctant to play with other children. He insists, for example, on removing his shirt or pants if they become wet regardless of where he might be--on playground or in the cafeteria. He resists any redirection and will tantrum if anyone tries to stop him. He will interact with adults but prefers to play along side other children than with them.
Avatar f tn He is starting to taper off on Monday. This doctor prescribed Topamax 100mg, Seroquel 100mg, and Depakote 500mg. My question is... After being on these for 4 days he is a zombie! He is really sleepy and his speech is so slurred that I have a hard time understanding him. He is also really unsteady on his feet. He has fallen twice tonight just going to the bathroom. And it not even 3 feet away from the bed.
Avatar n tn I am also on Lamictal, Lithium, and Seroquel - hence another reason to get off of it. I am on day 4 of the withdrawal from Effexor and I feel horrible. I have extreme vertigo, cold sweats, and of course the crazy crying for no reason. I would have been on day 6, but my mother convinced me to take a little to feel better. That only brought me back to zero. Anyone attempting this: DO NOT go back to taking a little if you are this far ahead of the game, it will only cause you frustration...
Avatar n tn Lamictal tends to cause a benign rash in 1/10 people, but the incidence of SJS (the really bad rash) is around 1/3000, and the risk is higher in children and if you go up too fast. Some doctors are willing to retry it even if a rash developed the first time, taking it verrrrrry slowly (you can start in the pediatric range), especially if it was working really well for you before the rash appeared. Not all doctors (or patients) are willing to do this, though. Your mileage may vary.
881974 tn?1242204273 At first he said no way to the xanax because he knew to many people that were on it and abusing it so badly, but has come around to understand that it is the only drug I have taken that gives me ZERO side effects and I have never increased my dosage but have asked to have it lowered and was advised against it by two other docs. I now just take it as needed and for sleep at night a few nights a week if I am having trouble. This has worked wonders for me.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've been on Saboxone for a yr now & my Dr. Hasn't reduced my dosage. I'm am taking 3 orange pills a day. My prob is, I'm really tired of depending on them & being afraid of getting sick when I run out. My insurance was covering all the cost until but now my Dr. Is relocating to a clinic that charges $350 each visit plus the cost of ya prescription. There's no way I can afford this every month. I really want to quit em all together & be over this.
Avatar f tn It probably would not work with a normal kid, and certainly would not work with a child who has ADHD. Wondering if the Clonidine and Seroquel are to help him sleep at night? If so, there are other ways to achieve that. I certainly agree with Mark about the type of physician you are seeing and what medication can or can not do. The reason for my questions was to try and figure out why he might be stealing. Stealing is a very common symptom of ADHD.
Avatar m tn It also helps with headaches, which can sometimes be a result of an anxiety attack. According to Mosby's the recommended dosage of Valerian extract is 400-900mg, before bedtime (2010, Pp592). It is recommended that Valerian not take with MAOIs. The herb Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis L.) is used as a sedative and it has mood-enhancing abilities(Reader's Digest, 2009, Pp73). The leaves are the part of the plant that is used and can come in an extract.
Avatar n tn He said that certain anti-depressants can trigger or bring bipolar to the surface. He took me off Celexa and prescribed Wellbutrin 100 mg once a day, Seroquel 25mg at night, and Ativan 1mg three times a day. Over the next months, we kept increasing the doses until I felt more normal. I was diagnosed with Bipolar 2. I am taking Wellbutrin 200mg twice/day, Seroquel 200 mg at night, Ativan 2 mg as needed and Tranxene as needed for anxiety.
Avatar f tn If in the first week or so of withdrawal and you canno’t fall asleep, and drugs like Ambien™ do not keep you asleep, try seroquel. Seroquel 100mg will relax your body well. It also helps relax your body and mind during daytime withdrawals the following day. For the following period of withdrawals, about days 8-20 where mild insomnia is the major problem, ask your doctor about Trazadone™. It is great for the adjustment and is used to treat insomnia and post traumatic stress.
Avatar m tn Your figt will not only make things better for you son but for others, i'm pretty sure they are just throwing other children out of the loop just to not be bothered by them. When children get thrown away to be truants, it only makes it harder for them to get back into the flow of things. The odds are way against them, once that road is travelled on, and it takes a lot out of them to fight back to get in and it is bad for the community and country at large.
222267 tn?1253305810 Same as ADD/ADHD I feel that there are better ways to go about it w/ young children than hardcore prescriptions. My children don't have ADD/ADHD, but I do know children w/ autism who are on natural remedies that seem to help their behaviors. Anyway, it may also be people not being so afraid of "coming out" with their mental illness. I have been trying for years and years to get my parents to notice something wasn't right, finally at 28 (almost 29 on Friday!
881974 tn?1242204273 I can take it at anytime and not feel drugged or hungover the next day. I can function fully and stay alert as I have three small children and need to be since husband works out of state for three weeks out of the month. My question lyes with my doctor. He is constantly pushing different drugs my way when the Xanax works fine (which I understand is not supposed to be for long term use) but I am not depressed in any way shape or form and mood altering drugs have sever reactions with me.
Avatar n tn I've reread your post a couple of times and I can't conclude whether she's still on Suboxone or not? If she is, what dosage is she one now? One of the top character traits of us addicts is that we're selfish. We will do, say, and believe anything to feed the addiction. I have been on Sub before, and I can say that the feelings on Sub are much different than when I was taking handfuls of Percocets. I will say this...
210376 tn?1207913324 So now I'm left wondering how I am going to be able to go to work, before the Spring Break Camp at the Rec ctr calls me to pick him up, then I'll take him to the Boys Club and wait for them to call me to tell me that they've suspended him as well, then what? The doctor just put him on Seroquel on Friday and it seemed to work Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, but then we are back to square one. I am at my wits end. And yes, before you ask, i do blame myself- i feel like somewhere I went wrong.
1460021 tn?1445739558 hey im 20 i get really angry sometimes punch brick walls pretty much any hard objects ive broken my hand 6 times i usally feel really down after a otherburst of anger, ive been on Seroquel 200 mg and seroquel XR 400mg, i go weeks with out sleep i feel blank and emty and have other side effects from seroquel, ive just been put on epilim 500 mg for what they think is boreder line bipolar and i high dose of phenergan to try and make me sleep, seroquel did not help with my sleep and made me feel bla
Avatar f tn I cannot tell you what to expect or whether that perfect dr is out there but it would be wise to take the dosage and then let the current one be able to observe how you react. I know how you feel and I have been there. I have been maxed out on Lamictal a few times according to the FDA and i was still manic but I realized that my normal (or as you say) typical state that I operate in best while medicated is still a little higher than a typical person.... with ot without bipolar.
Avatar n tn Also, they only see adults and not children, where a family practitioner does the same thing but sees both adults and children, and a pediatrician only sees kids. Here for psychiatric problems they generally don't like to see you unless you are sick with a problem they understand and they don't know anything about psychiatric medicines. They just put you on them at random. I see what you mean now though because I re-read taht part of your post.
Avatar f tn We have tried every ADHD/ADD med that is out there nothing seems to work. She is currently on Depakote, Seroquel, Clonodine, Focalin, and Zoloft. We have been to a neurologist and everything came back great. She was hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital for children and we did not get any answers there either. They think she may be bipolar but they say she is too young to diagnose.
Avatar f tn There are some concerns with the use of antipsychotics in children. That dosage of Seroquel is highly subclinical though. If the psychiatrist thinks he needs an antipsychotic that's one thing. But it should not be given as a sleep aide if that's what it is for. The medication Rozerem is a sleep aide that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive. I don't know if its used in children.
