I have also had anxiety ever since the encounter and have gained 20lbs. When during the course of HIV infection when does SD usually occur? My dermatologist says my SD is very mild and that it does not seem worriesome but is really starting to stress me out because I never had it before.

In case of recurrent seborrheic dermatitis, topical and oral antifungals, immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are useful. In addition some lifestyle measures like using antidandruff shampoos daily, avoiding harsh soaps and detergents, wearing cotton clothes and covering the itchy area with a dressing to prevent itching may also help. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Avatar m tn But they have a pattern of turning into white flakes then when I gently peel them off or when I control myself and leave them on it goes back to the irritated red skin again. I used to put tons of bensol peroxide 10% and saltic acid on my skin I havent had acne for a year. Could this be damage from the harsh BP I put on my skin? When I shower it seems the make the skin red and irritated again. No over the counter lotion works probly because of the lanolin.
Avatar m tn Hello, It looks like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is believed to be an inflammatory reaction related to the proliferation of normal skin habitant Malassezia – a yeast, which produces toxic substances that infect and irate the skin. The disease is neither contagious nor related with diet but it may be aggravated by other illness like Psychological stress, immune compromised patients, neurological diseases like Parkinsonism and stroke.
Avatar f tn I have never had any issues with my skin and I have read that seborrheic dermatitis is strongly related to HIV, i also have red eyes and frequent migraines. When do HIV patients start developing seborrheic dermatitis? What other symptoms are developed with it? When performing my last test alcohol was not completely dry on my finger + the final reading was before the 20 minutes mark set by the manufacturer.

Avatar f tn Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood. Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.

Avatar n tn At this point, there is really no effective medical therapy for hair loss. If your hair loss is associated with tinea and seborrheic dermatitis then the underlying disorders need to be addressed first. Hair loss also has a genetic basis. Male or female pattern baldness may follow a hereditary pattern. Treatment of the tinea and seborrheic dermatitis may help resolve the hair loss. Creams may not be sufficient for scalp infections. You may need oral antifungal therapy.
Avatar n tn is sometimes caused by a common condition called seborrheic dermatitis which can be problematic for persons with advanced HIV. Even though seborrheic dermatitis/dandruff can be a problem for persons with HIV, the fact is that most people with dandruff/seborrheic dermatitis do not have HIV. thus your dandruff is not something to worry about. If you have lingering fears about HIV, the only way to be sure that you o not have HIV is to be tested. There is no reason to fear testing.

Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms the first possibility is obviously of seborrheic dermatitis. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches. Oral antifungal drugs and immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are used in very severe cases. The other possibilities are of eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis. Best would be to consult a dermatologist and get biopsy skin done to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar n tn I've been doing a lot of reading and have concluded that I have facial seborrheic dermatitis. Red, dry, scaly patches starting from the creases of my nose and expanding outward onto the cheek area next to the nose. Through my search I've read that using anti-dandruff shampoos like Head and Shoulders on the face can drastically improve the condition of the affected areas. I started with this treatment about 3 days ago and appear to be responding well to it.
