1134609 tn?1269272200 It has been an interesting process, but I think I have finally figured out the medication issues. Here's the lay of the land: 1. I have always been sensitive to medications; they either work for me or the SEs are unbearable. 2. I have never had any luck when I have been placed on the generic brands of medications. Celexa especially; I was on it for 10 years, tried the generic several times and paid for it. 3. I have also been on Neurontin for the past 10 years.
Avatar m tn There are reliever inhalers which work for up to 12 hours after taking each dose. They include salmeterol (brand name Serevent) and formoterol (brand name Atimos). Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
822153 tn?1333062995 s exactly what my Psychiatrist does. For example he has me on generic Lamictal and says that I were on the name brand Lamictal that he would only have me taking 150Mgs a day, but since I am on the Generic he moves it to 200Mgs a day. In your case you also need to look at how long you have been taking Prozac (fluxotine) because after many years of usage Prozac can lose it effectivness as the result of resistance built up by your body.
Avatar n tn I have insurance and the copay on my generic script is usually about $2-4 for the whole month and the brand name was over $200 WITH insurance. Does anyone know of an insurance plan that covers these brand drugs to an affordable rate or any way to get a lower price on the brand name?
Avatar n tn Your question is a bit confusing to me. Are you saying that you had the rash, fatigue, etc.on the generic or a brand name? A rash usually means an allergic reaction. What type of thyroid medication are you on?
Avatar m tn It is possible, Thyroid meds are funny, what works well for one does not work well for others, I was on (Generic) Levothyroxine for six months and my labs did not budge, then went to Synthroid (brand Name) and had better sucess, my endo claimed that generics were not as consistant as name brand. Pharmacy said they are the same? So the change may have made a difference, some times the fillers they use can cause issues also.
Avatar n tn Classification - T-4 Contraindications - Administration (FDA) has determined that generic levothyroxine and brand-name Synthroid and Levoxyl are equivalent. The FDA requires all drugs—both brand-names and their generic counterparts—to be proven safe and effective. Since generics use the same active ingredients and are shown to work the same way in the body as their brand-name counterparts, they also have the same risks and benefits.
538782 tn?1213809348 Hi. I just thought that I would suggest getting the name brand. I know that they are more expensive but at the same time if the generic hasn't helped maybe it is worth a shot. I know that birth control and clomid aren't the same but I have found that name brand versions of them are better than the generic, maybe this applies for the clomid as well..
Avatar n tn When a drug patent runs out, a (usually much) less-expensive generic drug comes onto the market, which is chemically and medically equivalent to the brand-name drug. If he's saying what I think he's saying, I'd like to know what the difference here could possibly be. How could the the equivalent be different?...and if its different, how could it be equivalent? If not, what does the other answer mean? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
574118 tn?1305135284 I take Zyprexa but when the pharmacy was out, they offered me the generic. Within 3 days, I was back demanding the brand name - I had sleeplessness and a bit of agitation, which got worse over those few days. So yes, in some cases the generic is not quite the same. My doctor summed it up like this, "When you buy a suit off the rack, it may fit, but then go to a tailor and have a suit made for you. There's the difference.
Avatar f tn I've read all the comments here and today I called a refill in for Brand Name Klonpin...I've been taking the generic for years. I will post back and let you know if I feel a difference.
Avatar f tn For other people, they report a BIG difference in the effectiveness of the generic and have to stick with a brand name, sometimes even a specific brand name. Some meds have more of a reputation for this than others. Some of the benzodiazepines (ie Klonopin, Ativan, Xanax) have frequently reported complaints about the generics. We have seen many threads on MedHelp about generics not being as effective as brand names, but I always advise people to absolutely give the generic a fair shake.
Avatar f tn There seems to be a general consensus that the generic bupropion and the Name Brand Wellbutrin are quite different. Why doesn't everyone that comments on taking on or the other mention if they are taking the generic or name brand? I think if they did we would get a much better idea of the differences.
Avatar n tn i started on synthroid and then switched since the generic was free and it took a few weeks to level out. you can google --the difference between brand name and generic thyroid meds ard you will read about the tne percent difference either way. im not paying fourty dollars a month for the rest of my life when i can get it free so i had alot of motivation to make it work-- and it did.
1378325 tn?1285346625 The problem is, I now take the extended release Effexor and the supposed generic for this med is $70 more than the brand name Effexor ER. How could a generic subsitute be more expensive than the brand name, just doesn't make any sense to me. If I chose to take the non-extended release generic Venlafaxine, it would be $80 cheaper than the Effexor ER. I couldn't seem to get any answers about this from Express Scripts. I have never heard of a generic med costing more than the brand name.
Avatar m tn And Actavis EL is what i had and the only difference is one chemical the brand name is Lactose and the generic is Lactose Mono hydrate, the rest of the Excipients or inert chemicals are the same. I have found TEVA is second best. MYLAN i have found MANY people with HUGE issues with them like they aren't even taking them at all...
492652 tn?1252945408 I have not noticed any change in my med, i was taking a brand name, and they changed it to generic And i did not notice any difference jo
7991152 tn?1396061810 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of generic levothyroxine made by a number of different pharmaceutical companies. The various brand name and generic tablets of levothyroxine may differ in how much levothyroxine they contain; how much of the levothyroxine is absorbed into your body; and, how much levothyroxine circulates in your body.
Avatar f tn I gave in and bought name brand. I have 6 weeks of the generic left..can I alternate the generic with the name brand, or will it screw me up? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/264278'>Generic or Synthroid?</a>.
Avatar f tn The only difference between the brand name and the generics are the fillers and binders used in the pills, since they all use the same active ingredient - levothyroxine. Most people don't have an issue with the generics, but there are a few that have reactions to the fillers/binders - that can happen with Synthroid, as well. I actually did better on generics than I did on Synthroid. It's your choice as to whether or not to switch to an endo...
