dha

Avatar m tn Hi I'm a male in my 40's and I really want to get a genetic test for faulty Estrogen Metabolism. I understand there are a number of genes crucial to this role. The problem is, I'm not sure how to go about getting such a test. Does it need to be recommended by a doctor? The tests are available in Australia but my doctor doesn't know or understand anything to do with Estrogen. I've been to 6 doctors now and none know anything about it.
Avatar f tn More importantly though, vitamin B2 plays a part in oxygen metabolism and impaired oxygen metabolism is thought to play a role in migraine headaches. So, the vitamin B2 corrects the impaired oxygen metabolism. CoQ10 plays a similar role as vitamin B2, in that it one of its activities is energy metabolism and dysfunctional energy metabolism is thought to play role in migraine headaches.
Avatar f tn Part of the reason is the beneficial effect the fish oil has in keeping things moving, beneficially affecting digestion and metabolism. A piece of white bread isn't all that high in calories, but it metabolizes so quickly into sugar it's very hard for an average person to burn it off before it stores as fat. Focusing on calories hasn't worked all that well over all the years of advertised diets, because it doesn't factor in individual metabolism. Peace.

Avatar m tn The thyroid plays an important role in regulating the body's metabolism and calcium balance. The T4 and T3 hormones stimulate every tissue in the body to produce proteins and increase the amount of oxygen used by cells. The harder the cells work, the harder the organs work. The calcitonin hormone works together with the parathyroid hormone to regulate calcium levels in the body.
Avatar f tn Okay so my current prenatal vitamin does not have Dha in it...is it possible for me to take a Dha vitamin in conjunction with my prenatal vitamin?...if so what is a good brand to take?
Avatar f tn (I should mention here that the evidence of benefit in dogs has been in dogs with lymphoma, and to my knowledge, no studies of dogs with mast cell tumor and omega-3 fatty acids have yet been reported).
Avatar f tn [1] Ferritin is the stored form of iron that is used by the cells and a better measure of available iron levels than serum iron. Iron is a component of multiple enzymes involved with cellular metabolism, so low iron means poorly functioning enzymes, and less than optimal metabolism. Those with low iron also have low T4 and even lower T3 levels. [12] Iron deficiency also lowers thyroid peroxidase (TPO) activity.

10840278 tn?1424816083 Growth hormone plays a vital role in weight-training recovery. Growth hormone also assists in fat breakdown and repairing lean muscle tissue. The University of Colorado informs that growth hormone is produced in the body during sleep. Performing an intense weightlifting session in the evening followed by a post-workout recovery meal and sleep sets the body up for ideal recovery and growth conditions.
Avatar f tn I know you have young children but, not enough sleep can alter your metabolism! Lack of sleep can decrease the number of calories your body burns just resting. The rate of calories your body burns at rest represents about 60% to 75% of your total daily calorie burning, which makes slowing it through lack of sleep a serious roadblock to weight loss.

Avatar n tn I'm fairly new to hashi's and new to this board. To make this as short as possible, how much of a role exactly does hashi's play in ones inability to lose weight? My endo dr told me that hashi has little to do with it and my menopause was more the cause. My hashi's isn't adversely affecting me except for my weight problems. And no, I am currently not on any thyroid meds. Thanks for any insight you can offer.
233616 tn?1312787196 Experimental studies indicate that IGF-1 has a role in nerve tissue metabolism, and in humans may contribute to healing of injured nerve tissue. Other current clinical trials using the anabolic properties of somatomedin-1 are studying its effect on osteoporosis, catabolic states (burns, post-operation, AIDS) and haematopoietic disorders. Adverse effects of somatomedin-1 appear to be related to overdosage.
Avatar m tn Cortisol has a variety of functions, one of which is that it plays an important role as a fuel in carbohydrates, proteins and fats metabolism process in the body. Low cortisol levels translate into a lower metabolism. So, if there are low cortisol levels in the blood, the body metabolism rate would be slower compared to those that have normal levels of cortisol (since there is a lack of fuel).
