Avatar m tn She recovered completely but since some years ago she developed a chronic migraine. Of course we went to a lot of neurologists, made tomographies, magnetic resonances, etc. etc. and everything looks ok. Currently she takes 75 mg of Topamax (topiramate) in the morning and 75 mg more at night. Additionally, she takes 1 or 2 Acetaminophen (650 mg) daily and when the pain is very strong she takes 1 Maxalt (Rizatriptan) 10 mg.

Avatar m tn I would also suggest you to try magnesium supplements for migraine prophylaxis. Magnesium is known to prevent migraine attacks in chronic migraineurs. Meanwhile OTC pain killers will provide you relief from pain. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn I am not sure if it is a side-effect of the triptan, or if it is the migraine and the triptan is not relieving all of the migraine symptoms (and only relieving the pain). Buy yeah... I totally feel out of it after taking triptans!
Avatar n tn My headache went 100% away. I also started cytoxan chemotherapy. I take Calan 240 mgs for migraine prevention and Amerge for a migraine. This Saturday the headache came back. It hurts, throbs, I can't do anything and am very nauseated. What are my other options to take if the Amerge doesn't help? Thanks.
Avatar n tn I wish there was a proper thread for migraine suffers who need prescription pain relief and their experience with accutane( or claravis) / if it makes migraines even worse or more frequent. Not people who have other health concerns or problems with the medication. I have been taking Claravis 40mg once daily for almost a month. The last 2 weeks or so my migraines have gotten more frequent and less apt to respond to Rizatriptan.
Avatar f tn I had cataract removal surgery over a year ago with premium bifocal implants via laser. I've had occasional migraines since then but has come to daily occurrences since June 2022 (most of pain is behind left eye). I've seen my ophthalmologist twice since surgery and she says I have 20/20 vision with nothing wrong. I'm currently seeing a neurologist and he has prescribed Nortriptyline for preventative (which hasn't helped) and Rizatriptan to get rid of migraine.
Avatar m tn I know that some doctors consider all forms of headache without an underlying disease as migraine. So migraine is not just the usual half sided three day long pulsating headache with nausea and noise and light sensitivity. It can give you very strange symptoms. I am sure a lot of you know that. My question is if triptans help against these strange chronic forms of migraine as well? And could they then be used for diagnostical purposes? Anyone knows? What are your experiences with triptans?
Avatar f tn I have a history of horrible migraines since my early teens and they just recently began. It's been exactly a week since I've had this particular migraine and since tylenol is the only safe thing I can take, I am in agony!! I'm used to taking excedrin and rizatriptan but neither of those are safe for the baby. I've tried sleeping, cold rags on my neck and forehead, head rubs, everything! And I just can't get rid of if! I'm to the point where I want to go to the e.
Avatar n tn He did mention vestibular migraine which would link in with my history of migraine, but I just wondered if it was possible that vestibular migraine would just affect one ear and whether it would cause constant tinnitus. I don't really understand how vestibular migraine works because I seem to have constant symptoms. I had an MRI scan three years ago looking for an acoustic neuroma but it was clear.
Avatar f tn Maxalt contains the active ingredient rizatriptan which is indicated to relieve migraine attacks. Possible side effects of this medication include dizziness, sleepiness. feeling weak or fatigued, pins and needles or tingling sensations, flushing, palpitations and even headache. I agree with you that finding the right medicine may take a while and benefits usually outweigh the risks. Take care and do keep us posted with the MRI results. Best regards.
Avatar f tn Triptans are migraine medications that interupt the physiology of a migraine and STOP the migraine from happening. Migraine is much more than just pain, so taking pain killer for migraine is only treating one part of the migraine and not actually stopping the migraine... which is why so often the pain killers don't even touch the pain or the pain will return. If you are having migraines, you should really be treating them with proper migraine medications.
Avatar m tn The primary headaches include tension headache, migraine cluster headaches and similar pathologies. Secondary causes can be due to sinusitis eye problems, etc and the cranial neuralgias that include the trigeminal neuralgias. Without a clinical evaluation it would be difficult to differentiate between these or suggest specific management.
Avatar n tn In addition, many medications used to treat migraine headache (Excedrin Migraine Pain Reliever/Pain Reliever Aid, oxygen, prednisone [Deltasone]) can also be used for cluster headache. You should consult a neurologist regarding these treatment options. Apart from this avoid stressful events, develop a regular sleep patterna d do daily exercises. Refer http://www.emedicinehealth.com/cluster_headache/page7_em.
Avatar f tn I also suffer from migraines and take a combo of Topamax and Rizatriptan. These meds do not take away the entire migraine but make it manageable for me. I think the extra strong coffee helps too.
Avatar m tn I went to a neurologist and they prescribed me Nortriptyline, Methylprednisolone, and Rizatriptan. Since I have taken these medications I have gained a little relief however, it all just came back after a week. When I was on rizatriptan it constricted the vessels on the temporal regions of my head and I did not feel them throbbing too much, however, there were still headaches.
768044 tn?1294223436 If you suffer from multiple migraine headaches a month or if you suffer from chronic migraine headaches, it is usually advisable to avoid OTC pain killers as they can actually cause rebound headaches if taken too often. That is why it is always advisable to see a doctor in order to get a prescription for a medication more suitable for migraines.
Avatar f tn The pain is situated on the left side behind my eye and aund my temple. I have seen a neurologist who has diagnosed chronic migraine. I have tried anti depressants, NSAIDs, beta blockers and am now on anti epileptics all of which have not helped. My current dose of gabapentin is 900mg.
Avatar f tn Hello, All, I have been reading lots of posts about complex migraine. I have been diagnosed with this and my neurologist said it is due to hormonal changes. I am 48. I tried topamax and stopped b/c of confusion but had to try it again b/c the numbness just wouldn't quit. But this time my eye is red and I am going to have to try a different medication. My doctor mentioned depakote the last time I saw him. Waiting for a call back.
655875 tn?1295695107 Every morning I wake up with a severe headache/migraine/sinus headache. I'm not sure if I'm making them worse by taking aspirin or Maxalt to relieve the headaches. I wake up and my head is pounding, so I walk into the kitchen and grab the ice pack. I will try and abort the headache with the ice pack before resorting to aspirin or ibuprofen. If the ice pack does not work with in 20-30 minutes, I will take either aspirin or ibuprofen.
Avatar f tn By way of background I have chronic daily headaches as well as migraines with aura, and have had those since I was 14 (I’m 32 now). I take rizatriptan for the migraines and Tylenol and ibuprofen for the daily headache.
Avatar n tn that hung over feeling might not really be a side-effect of the relpax, it might still be the migraine and the relpax might not be properly treating the migraine. It does not sound like you have 100% relief of your symptoms. You might want to consider going to the hospital during your next severe migraine for a treatment of the following: - injection with sumatriptan (assuming you have not already taken the replex) - IV liquids (at least one liter i believe is the standard...
Avatar f tn it is usually very rare for someone with migraines to have a migraine-like headache and have it not be a migraine BUT if your migraine pattern changes it is important to go to the doctor to let them know this because even though it is rare, there is still the very small slight possibility that it could be something else if it is different from normal. So, that is why it is so important to let your doctor know that your migraine pattern has changed. As for meds I would suggest...
1103688 tn?1257894552 Another possibility is a class of medication called the Ergot alkaloids, which were the first line of acute treatment for migraine headache prior to the invention of triptans. A famous migraine medication in the class of medication is called "Cafergot". Cafergot may be an option for you, it contains ergotamine tartrate and caffeine.
